Korea won four of five pool games, then lost 2-1 to Malaysia

Korea finished second in Pool A with four wins from five. Their only pool defeat was 8-2 to India. In the semi-final, Malaysia beat them 2-1, with all three goals in the third quarter. Korea scored 21 goals and let in 12.

Sufyan Khan's 11 penalty corner goals lead Pakistan's scoring

Sufyan Khan has scored 11 of Pakistan's 31 goals, all from penalty corners. A penalty corner is a set piece given for a foul near the goal. Waheed Rana has five goals, and three players have three each.

Both teams lost to India and Malaysia, the two finalists

Pakistan and Korea have the same record against the top two. Each lost to India and to Malaysia, and each beat every other team it played. Pakistan lost those two games by one goal each. Korea lost to India by six.

So the numbers lean slightly towards Pakistan. Pakistan scored ten more goals and conceded the same number, 12. But Korea beat Japan 3-2 and lost to Malaysia by one goal, so they can play a tight game too.

The penalty corner battle may decide it. Pakistan scored 16 of their goals that way, and Korea 11. Korea also scored three penalty strokes, a free shot at goal from close range, against Pakistan's two.

Earlier meetings between the two sides at past Asian Games are not in the 2026 results system, so we have not used them here.

A bronze would be Pakistan's first Asian Games hockey medal since 2014

Pakistan have won 14 men's hockey medals at the Asian Games, according to the Pakistan Olympic Association's records: eight gold, three silver and three bronze. The last was silver at Incheon in 2014. Pakistan won no hockey medal in 2018 or at Hangzhou.

  1. Gold: 1958, 1962, 1970, 1974, 1978, 1982, 1990 and 2010.
  2. Silver: 1966, 1986 and 2014.
  3. Bronze: 1994, 1998 and 2006.
  4. No hockey medal is listed for 2002, 2018 or 2022.

That is a 12-year gap for a country with eight Asian Games hockey titles.

A bronze would also add to the country's total, tracked in the Pakistan Asian Games 2026 medal tally. The full pool scorers and tables are in Pakistan's Asian Games 2026 hockey results.

Pakistan's Asian Games men's hockey medals: 14 in total, eight gold, three silver and three bronze, the last a silver in 2014

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked at about 8:40 pm PKT on Thursday 1 October 2026. Every result, score, scorer, penalty corner count, squad name, coach and the bronze match date, time and venue come from the individual match records on the official Asian Games 2026 results system, all marked official except Saturday's match, which is scheduled. The goal and penalty corner totals are our own count from those records. Pakistan time is Japan time minus four hours. Pakistan's past Asian Games hockey medals come from the Pakistan Olympic Association's Asian Games records, and the 14-medal total and the 12-year gap are our count from that list. We did not use head-to-head records from earlier Games because we did not read them at an official source.
