Short answer: Most passport offices in Pakistan list office hours of 8 am to 4 pm from Monday to Friday, with a break from 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm. Eight offices in Islamabad, Lahore and Karachi run round the clock, seven days a week. DGI&P offices close on public holidays.

Going to a passport office at the wrong hour wastes a day, and the queue for a token can be long. The Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (DGI&P) publishes its timings on its own page.

We read the DGI&P passport page on 13 October 2026. This guide copies the hours it shows, and it marks the parts that the page does not make clear.

Regular offices list 8 am to 4 pm on weekdays

The page says that Regional Passport Offices, Executive Passport Offices and Passport Processing Counters list office time of 8 am to 4 pm, Monday to Thursday and on Friday. The break for prayer and lunch is 1:00 pm to 1:30 pm.

This rule does not apply to the offices on the round the clock list below. They follow a shift system instead.

Eight offices run three shifts, seven days a week

DGI&P says passport processing is available round the clock, Monday to Sunday, at eight offices. Four are in Lahore, three are in Karachi and one is in Islamabad, which also houses the Senior Citizen Branch at G-10/4.

The page calls these eight "round the clock", but two of them list only morning and evening shifts. That means Peco Road and Sanda Road in Lahore are not open at night, even though they sit on the same list.

Shift hours are 8 to 4, 4 to midnight and midnight to 8

The morning shift runs from 8:00 to 16:00 hours. The evening shift runs from 16:00 to 24:00 hours. The night shift runs from 24:00 to 08:00 hours. These are office times, so plan to arrive well before the end of a shift.

  1. Morning shift: 8:00 am to 4:00 pm.
  2. Evening shift: 4:00 pm to midnight.
  3. Night shift: midnight to 8:00 am.

Eight more regional offices list morning and evening shifts

The same table lists eight regional passport offices with morning and evening shifts: Faisalabad, Gujranwala, Multan, Bahawalpur, Peshawar, Rawalpindi, Hyderabad and Quetta. The page does not give separate hours for them, so we use the shift times above only as a guide.

Call before you travel if you live far from the office. The helpline printed on the DGI&P page is +92-51-111-344-777.

Token rules decide when you are served

The page tells applicants to follow token issuance and public dealing timings to avoid inconvenience. In the code of the page, older token windows of 9 am to 2 pm are switched off, so the visible rule is the office time. We cannot say when tokens stop each day.

To be safe, reach the office early. An applicant who arrives near the end of a shift may be asked to return. Our page on how a passport application works at the counter shows what happens after you get a token.

Match the office to your service

A fast track, urgent or normal application all start at the same counters, but delivery times differ. DGI&P lists fast track at 2 working days, urgent at 5 and normal at 21, with courier time extra for remote areas. See the cities that offer fast track before you pick an office.

If you only need a renewal, some NADRA centres can help. Read passport renewal at NADRA centres and the NADRA mega centre timings. For fees, see the official passport fees. If an office is closed at its listed hours, you can file a passport complaint with DGI&P.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked on 13 October 2026, Pakistan time. We read the DGI&P ordinary passport page, including its office timings, round the clock list and FAQ. We did not visit any office. The page has no date, so call an office before a long trip.
