PMD Forecasts Rain and Storms in Islamabad, Punjab and KP From Tonight
PMD expects rain, windstorms and isolated hail in Islamabad, upper and central Punjab and KP on 27 and 28 September. City forecasts, rain odds and what to do.
Rain, windstorms and thunderstorms are expected in Islamabad, upper and central Punjab and parts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa from Sunday night, 27 September 2026, into Monday. The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) says a westerly trough is moving into the upper and western parts of the country from this evening.
Heavy rain and hail are possible at isolated places. Sindh and Balochistan stay hot and dry, with Sibi and Turbat forecast at up to 43°C. We read PMD's daily forecast, issued at 10:30 on Sunday, and its three day city table. Everything below comes from those two pages.
One correction to what is circulating. The PMD forecast says "rain-windstorm", meaning strong wind with the rain. It does not mention dust storms for this spell.
Rain and thunderstorms are forecast for Sunday night and Monday
On Sunday evening and night, PMD expects rain-windstorm and thunderstorms in central and southern Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, upper and central Punjab and the Potohar region. On Monday, the rain shifts to upper Khyber Pakhtunkhwa while upper and central Punjab and Potohar stay in the band.
Gilgit-Baltistan and Kashmir get light rain and thunderstorms at isolated places on both days. Most plain areas of the country stay hot and dry during the day.

PMD's forecast runs to Tuesday. It has not issued anything for Wednesday 30 September yet, so any claim about that day is not from PMD.
Islamabad has a 40 to 45 per cent chance of rain
PMD puts the chance of rain in Islamabad at 40 per cent on Sunday night and 45 per cent on Monday morning. Sunday itself should be dry with some afternoon cloud, and the top temperature stays between 32 and 34°C.
Rawalpindi follows the same pattern at 31 to 33°C. Murree and the Galiyat are much cooler, at 22 to 24°C, and are on the list for thunderstorms both evenings.
Lahore is one of 18 Punjab places in the storm band
PMD names Murree, Galiyat, Rawalpindi, Mianwali, Attock, Chakwal, Khushab, Sargodha, Bhakkar, Noor Pur Thal, Jhang, Faisalabad, Okara, Kasur, Lahore, Gujranwala, Mandi Bahauddin and Bahawalnagar for Sunday evening and night. Monday adds Jhelum, D.G. Khan and Sahiwal.
The rest of Punjab's plains stay hot by day. Multan and Bahawalpur are not in the storm list and are forecast sunny or partly cloudy at 34 to 37°C.

Read the Sunday icons with care. PMD's symbol for Lahore on Sunday is a sun, because the day is dry, while its text puts Lahore in the storm list for the night.
Khyber Pakhtunkhwa gets isolated storms and hail
In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, PMD expects rain-windstorm and thunderstorms at isolated places, with hail possible. Sunday night covers D.I. Khan, Bannu, Lakki Marwat, Karak, Peshawar, Nowshera, Kurram, Kohat and Hangu. On Monday the list moves north to Kohistan, Dir, Swat and Abbottabad.
Peshawar, Nowshera, Kurram, Kohat and Hangu are on both days. Dir, Saidu Sharif, Kakul and Chitral all show thunderstorm symbols for Monday in the city table.
Sindh and Balochistan stay hot and dry
PMD expects hot and dry weather over most of Sindh and Balochistan on both days, with some cloud along the coast and in northern Balochistan. Nawabshah is forecast at up to 42°C, and Sibi and Turbat at 41 to 43°C.
Karachi stays partly cloudy at 33 to 35°C, with humidity at 81 per cent in PMD's latest reading. No rain is forecast for Sindh in this spell.
Neither PMD nor NDMA has issued a special alert
As of Sunday afternoon, PMD's latest rain and wind press release was dated 11 September 2026, and NDMA's advisories page also listed 11 September as its latest weather advisory. This spell is covered only by the routine daily forecast, not a warning.
That can change within hours, so check the official PMD forecast and warnings before you travel. If you are in the storm band, these steps are sensible:
- Park away from trees, billboards and weak walls on Sunday evening, since PMD expects windstorms.
- Stay off rooftops and away from electric poles and loose wires during a thunderstorm.
- If you drive in heavy rain, slow down and use dipped headlights.
- Farmers in the named districts should cover harvested crops, because PMD mentions hail.
- Call Rescue 1122 in an emergency.
