Short answer: The Pakistan Meteorological Department (PMD) forecast on 11 October says rain, wind and thunderstorm may reach Lahore, Islamabad and Rawalpindi on the night of Monday 12 October. Islamabad has a 30% chance that night. PMD shows a thunderstorm for Islamabad and Murree again on Tuesday 13 October.

A westerly wave, a weather system that arrives from the west, is sitting over the upper and central parts of Pakistan. It has already dropped 43 mm of rain on Mandi Bahauddin in 24 hours, and it is not finished.

We opened PMD's daily forecast on 12 October 2026. It was issued on 11 October 2026 at 17:30 PST by the National Weather Forecasting Centre in Islamabad. Everything below is read from that page and from PMD's own press release of 9 October.

Monday night 12 October brings rain to Lahore and the Potohar region

PMD says Monday is mainly dry in most of Punjab. Rain, wind or thunderstorm may occur at night in Lahore, Sheikhupura, Kasur, Okara, Rawalpindi, Murree, Galiyat, Attock, Chakwal, Jhelum, Sialkot, Narowal, Hafizabad, Gujrat and Gujranwala.

Islamabad stays partly cloudy by day. The forecast gives a 30% chance of rain, wind or thunderstorm there during the night. That is lower than the 40% PMD gave for Sunday night.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, PMD names isolated places in Dir, Chitral, Swat, Kohistan, Shangla, Battagram, Abbottabad, Haripur, Buner, Kohat, Kurram and Hangu for the evening and night.

The weather system is expected to last until 15 October

PMD's press release of 9 October says the westerly wave would enter the upper parts of the country from Saturday and persist until 15 October. It named 10, 11, 13 and 14 October for rain in Punjab and Islamabad, with gaps between.

The National Disaster Management Authority (NDMA) passed the same dates on in its advisory of 9 October. We covered that advisory in our report on the NDMA rain and hail alert for 10 to 15 October. The 11 October forecast fits it: Monday is the gap day, with rain returning to Islamabad and Murree on Tuesday.

The 11 October forecast does not repeat the full 13 and 14 October detail. For those days, the 9 October press release is still the document to follow, and a newer one may replace it.

Rain over the last 24 hours was heavy in parts of Punjab and KP

PMD's past 24 hour table shows rain-wind or thunderstorm at most places in Punjab and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa. Mandi Bahauddin recorded 43 mm, Dera Ismail Khan Airport 41 mm, Bhakkar 34 mm and Peshawar City 24 mm.

Lahore Airport recorded only 2 mm, and Islamabad's Saidpur station 6 mm. So the same system gave very different results over short distances.

Temperatures stayed warm elsewhere. The highest maximum on the day was 41 C at Nokkundi and 40 C at Sibbi, both in Balochistan. Sindh remains mainly dry and hot, with Karachi partly cloudy.

What the forecast means for roads and travel

Expect wet roads and low visibility on Monday night around Lahore, Rawalpindi and the Murree hills. Hail is possible at isolated places. Leave later or earlier if your trip falls in the night window.

The NDMA advisory of 9 October tells drivers to stop under a bridge or a roofed area in hail, to keep the seatbelt on, and not to drive through flooded roads. It warns that 6 inches of moving water can knock a person off their feet. It also says to avoid driving in unfamiliar hilly areas during rain.

For hill roads, read the PMD landslide warning for Murree, Naran and Hunza before you leave. For motorways, check the NHMP page for closures, as our guide on how to check if a Pakistan motorway is open explains.

  1. Open weather.gov.pk and read the issue date and time on the daily forecast.
  2. Find your district in the province section for the day of travel.
  3. Check the night section if you leave after 8 pm.
  4. Look at the NDMA advisories page for any newer advisory.
  5. Check the road status before you leave, and carry water and a charged phone.

Common questions

Will it rain in Lahore on 12 October 2026?

PMD says it may, at night. Its Monday forecast names Lahore among the places where rain, wind or thunderstorm may occur during the night, while the day stays mainly dry.

What is the chance of rain in Islamabad on Monday night?

PMD gives 30%. For Sunday night it gave 40%. The forecast calls it a rain-wind or thunderstorm chance, not a guaranteed storm.

Is hail expected?

PMD says hail is likely at isolated places in the upper districts of Punjab and in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa on Sunday night. The Monday text does not repeat the hail line for Punjab.

How long will the westerly wave last?

PMD's 9 October press release says it is likely to persist until 15 October. Watch for a newer press release, because systems can leave early or stay longer.

Is Karachi affected?

No rain is forecast for Karachi in this issue. PMD says Sindh is mainly dry and hot, with Karachi partly cloudy.

Where do I read the official forecast?

PMD publishes it at weather.gov.pk, and its older pmd.gov.pk page now points visitors there. Our guide on where to get the official weather forecast shows the sections.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

We read the PMD National Weather Forecasting Centre daily forecast issued 11 October 2026 at 17:30, the PMD press release of 9 October 2026, and NDMA's weather advisory of 9 October 2026, all on 12 October 2026. We did not see a newer NDMA advisory on its advisories page that day. Forecasts change, so check PMD's daily forecast page before you travel.
