PPSC Age Relaxation in Punjab: 5 Years for Men, 8 for Women, 15 for Disabled Candidates
PPSC age relaxation: up to 5 years for men and 8 for women, already in the advert, 15 for disabled and 10 for ex-forces. How PPSC counts your age, to the day.

PPSC gives up to 5 extra years to men and 8 to women on the upper age limit, and that relaxation is already added to the age printed in each advertisement. On top of that, a specially abled candidate gets 15 more years, and former armed forces staff can exclude up to 10 years of service from their age. Federal government employees get no age concession for their federal service.
These rules come from the Punjab Public Service Commission's "Important Instructions to Candidates", English version of 8 October 2026, which we read on ppsc.gop.pk on 4 November 2026. The instructions apply the Punjab Civil Servants Recruitment (Relaxation of Upper Age Limit) Rules, 1976. Here is who gets what, how PPSC counts your age to the day, and how to check before you pay the fee.
PPSC age relaxation by category
PPSC lists four kinds of relaxation. Two are added to everyone in a category. Two depend on your service record.
| Who | Relaxation | How it works |
|---|---|---|
| Men (all candidates) | Up to 5 years | Already added to the age in the advertisement |
| Women (all candidates) | Up to 8 years | Already added to the age in the advertisement |
| Specially abled persons | 15 years | Added to the maximum age in the service rules |
| Former defence forces officers and personnel | Up to 10 years | Your period of armed forces service is excluded from your age |
| Regular civil servants terminated for want of a vacancy | Service period | Your earlier regular service is excluded from your age |
| Federal, semi-government, autonomous body and local body employees | None for that service | No concession for time served in those bodies |
The 5 and 8 year relaxation comes from a Punjab Services and General Administration Department notification of 21 May 2012. PPSC says it is "across the board" and "will appear as part of the Advertisement". So do not add it again yourself.

The age in the advertisement already includes 5 or 8 years
This is where most candidates go wrong. A PPSC advertisement shows a base range and then the relaxed limit. Advertisement No. 11/2026 of 9 October 2026 printed, for example:
| Post in Advertisement 11/2026 | Base age | Men up to | Women up to |
|---|---|---|---|
| Veterinary Officer (BS-17) | 21 to 30 | 35 | 38 |
| Intelligence Officer (BS-14) | 21 to 35 | 40 | 43 |
| Tehsil Sports Officer (BS-16) | 18 to 25 | 30 | 33 |
A 37 year old woman can apply for Veterinary Officer. A 37 year old man cannot, unless he has a separate relaxation such as a disability or armed forces service. Our page on PPSC Advertisement 11/2026 has the full list for that round.
How PPSC counts your age, to the day
PPSC uses one of two dates. For a written examination, such as the Combined Competitive Examination (CCE), your age is counted on 1 January of the year the exam is held. For every other post, it is counted on the closing date for applications.
Being over the limit by one day makes you ineligible. PPSC adds the day of your birth when it counts. Its own example: a candidate born on 1 January 1988 is 28 years and 1 day old on 1 January 2016, so a 28 year limit rules that candidate out.
- Find the closing date, or 1 January of the exam year for CCE.
- Take your date of birth from your Matric (SSC) certificate.
- Work out your exact age in years, months and days on that date.
- Add one day, as PPSC does.
- Compare it with the relaxed limit for your gender in the advertisement, plus any extra relaxation you hold.

Which document PPSC uses for your date of birth
PPSC takes your date of birth from your Secondary School Certificate (Matric). If you did O Level or Senior Cambridge and that certificate has no date of birth, PPSC accepts one of these instead:
- A School Leaving Certificate showing your date of birth.
- Your CNIC issued by NADRA.
- A birth certificate issued by your local council.
If your Matric and CNIC dates differ, PPSC goes by the Matric certificate. Fix any mismatch before you apply, not at the interview.
Disabled candidates need the certificate by the closing date
The 15 year relaxation for specially abled persons is the largest one. To claim it, mark "Yes" in the disability column of the online form. You also need a disability certificate from the Provincial Council for the Rehabilitation of Specially Abled Persons, under the Social Welfare Department, issued on or before the closing date.
A certificate dated after the closing date does not count. Our guide to the disability certificate and special CNIC explains how to get one. You can also ask for a reader or writer in the exam, but only when you apply online.
Federal employees and partial modifications
PPSC advertisements say employees of the federal government, semi-government and autonomous bodies of the federal government, and local bodies are "not entitled to age concession" for their service in those organisations. A Punjab government servant applying for another post also needs a Departmental Permission Certificate from the department.
When PPSC issues a partial modification to an advertisement, your age is counted on the original closing date if you applied first time round. If you apply under the modification, it is counted on the new closing date. A candidate who was under age on the original date becomes eligible if they reach the minimum age by the new date. The first two of these rules do not apply to CCE candidates.
For federal jobs the rules are different. See FPSC age relaxation. Before applying to PPSC, also check the eligibility criteria for your post.
Common questions
How much age relaxation does PPSC give women?
Up to 8 years, and men get up to 5. Both are already added to the upper age printed in the advertisement.
Do I add 5 years to the age in the PPSC advertisement?
No. PPSC says the 5 and 8 year relaxation appears as part of the advertisement, so the printed limit for men and women already includes it.
How much age relaxation do disabled candidates get in PPSC?
15 years on the maximum age in the service rules, with a disability certificate from the Provincial Council for the Rehabilitation of Specially Abled Persons issued by the closing date.
On which date does PPSC count my age?
On the closing date for most posts. For a written examination such as the CCE, it is 1 January of the exam year.
Do federal government employees get age relaxation in PPSC jobs?
Not for their federal service. PPSC advertisements say federal, semi-government, autonomous body and local body employees are not entitled to age concession for that period.
How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
Last checked 4 November 2026. We read the PPSC "Important Instructions to Candidates", English version dated 8 October 2026, linked from the Instructions page of the PPSC website: paragraphs 11 to 15 on reckoning of age, 16 on age relaxation under the Punjab Civil Servants Recruitment (Relaxation of Upper Age Limit) Rules, 1976 and S&GAD notification No. SOR-I (S&GAD) 9-36/81 of 21 May 2012, 17 on the Departmental Permission Certificate, and 27 and 28 on specially abled candidates. The federal employee rule and the sample age limits are read in PPSC Advertisement No. 11/2026, published 9 October 2026. Whether the 15 year disability relaxation adds to the 5 or 8 years is not stated in the instructions, so check the advertisement for your post.
