Virtual University Need-Based Scholarship Fall 2026: Apply in the LMS by 16 October
VU extended its Fall 2026 need-based scholarship deadline to 16 October 2026. See who qualifies with 60% marks, 5 LMS steps and the Part II marks sheet rule.

Virtual University of Pakistan has extended the deadline for its need-based scholarship for the Fall 2026 semester to Friday 16 October 2026. You apply inside the VU LMS: Student Services, then Need Based Scholarship under Accounts, then fill the form and submit. New students need at least 60 per cent marks in the exam they were admitted on. The scholarship cuts tuition fee only, for one semester.
Update, 11 October 2026: VU Fall 2026 classes start on 12 October, with add and drop until 21 October. See the new dates.
We read VU's notice of 7 October 2026, its notice of 6 October on intermediate result cards and the full Student Scholarship Regulations, 2015 on the university's website on 10 October 2026. The original need-based deadline was Monday 5 October. VU is a federal public university that teaches online, and its students pay by the credit hour, so a tuition waiver is worth real money.
The VU need-based scholarship deadline is now 16 October 2026
VU's need-based scholarship for Fall 2026 closes on Friday 16 October 2026, for both local and overseas students. The notice of 7 October extended it from 5 October. You apply online through the VU LMS, not on paper.
The notice speaks to "local and overseas students" in its heading. The regulations, though, say need-based scholarships go to local students only. We read both and they do not match. If you study from abroad, apply before the deadline and let VU's committee decide, rather than skip the form.

Apply in five steps inside the VU LMS
The application is a short form inside your LMS account at vulms.vu.edu.pk. Log in with your VU student ID, open Student Services, and the Need Based Scholarship link sits in the Accounts section. VU lists these steps in its notice.
- Log in to the VU LMS at vulms.vu.edu.pk.
- Click the Student Services button.
- Under Accounts, click Need Based Scholarship.
- Fill in the form that opens.
- Click Submit Request, then take a screenshot of the confirmation.
The form is short, so do not leave it for the last evening. LMS logins slow down near any deadline. A screenshot is your only proof that you applied on time.

Students admitted on Part I marks must upload their Part II marks sheet
If VU admitted you on your intermediate Part I result, you must upload your official Part II marks sheet to be considered. VU's notice of 6 October says students who miss this will be treated as ineligible for the need-based scholarship.
Many first semester students joined VU in September before their 12th class result cards reached them. That is exactly the group this rule catches. Upload the consolidated intermediate marks sheet (Part II) through the LMS link in that notice. The same upload is needed for the merit-based scholarship.
If you have not yet collected your result card, get it now. If the card has a mistake, such as a misspelt name, apply with the card you have and ask your board for a correction separately.
Who qualifies under VU's Student Scholarship Regulations, 2015
VU's need-based awards follow its Student Scholarship Regulations, 2015. New students need 60 per cent marks, or a CGPA of 2.5 out of 4.0, or 3.5 out of 5.0, in the exam they were admitted on. The top eligible students on each programme's list get the awards.
Four rules decide most cases. You cannot already hold another scholarship or financial help from any other source. You cannot have a course exemption. You must have no repeat or failed course. And the scholarship lasts one semester, so you apply again each time.
The number and size of awards are set each year by VU's management committee from its budget. VU does not publish a fixed rupee amount. It may waive part of your tuition, or all of it. Other dues, such as enrolment and exam fees, are still yours to pay.

Need-based and merit-based awards follow different rules
VU runs two scholarships, and the bar for each is different. The merit scholarship needs 65 per cent marks for a new student and gives one award for every 50 students in a programme, up to ten. The need-based scholarship needs 60 per cent and depends on the budget.
| Rule | Need-based | Merit-based |
|---|---|---|
| New student minimum | 60% or CGPA 2.5 of 4.0 | 65% or CGPA 3.0 of 4.0 |
| Continuing student | Keep semester GPA 2.25, CGPA 2.50 | Semester GPA 3.25, CGPA 3.00 |
| How many | Set by budget each year | 1 per 50 students, maximum 10 per programme |
| Who can get it | Local students only, per the regulations | Any regular student |
A tie is broken by the marks of the exam before, then by date of birth, with the younger student first. The committee's decision is final under the regulations.
VU's own award is not the only door. Students at many public universities apply for the federal HEC need-based scholarship through their university, and VU's notice does not say whether it takes part. The rest of this month's closing dates sit in the list of scholarship deadlines in Pakistan for October 2026.

Common questions
What is the last date for the VU need-based scholarship in Fall 2026?
Friday 16 October 2026. VU's notice of 7 October extended it from 5 October.
How do I apply for the Virtual University need-based scholarship?
Log in to vulms.vu.edu.pk, click Student Services, then Need Based Scholarship under Accounts. Fill the form and click Submit Request.
How much is the VU need-based scholarship?
VU does not publish a fixed amount. It is a partial or full waiver of tuition fee for one semester, set by budget. With VU's fall 2026 fees at Rs 1,000 per credit hour for BS students, tuition on a 15 credit hour semester comes to Rs 15,000, which is the most a full waiver would save.
Can a new VU student apply with an intermediate Part I result?
Yes, but you must upload your official Part II marks sheet through the LMS. VU says students who do not will be ineligible.
Can I keep the scholarship next semester?
Only if you reapply and keep a semester GPA of 2.25 and a CGPA of 2.50, with no failed or repeated course.
How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
Last checked on 10 October 2026. We read VU's notices "Extension of Deadline for Applying for Need-Based Scholarship, Fall 2026" (7 October 2026) and "Submission of Official Intermediate Part-II Result Cards, Fall 2026" (6 October 2026), and the Student Scholarship Regulations, 2015, all on vu.edu.pk. We did not log in to the LMS, so we have not seen the form itself.
