Android 17 Update in Pakistan: Which Phones Get It and When

Android 17 is out. Google released it on 15 June 2026 for 21 Pixel phones and tablets, from the Pixel 6 to the Pixel 10a. Samsung started its Android 17 update, called One UI 9, on the Galaxy S26 series on 16 September. Xiaomi, Tecno, Infinix and most other brands sold in Pakistan have not published a Pakistan schedule.

We checked Google's and Samsung's own pages on 28 September 2026. The Android 17 update reaches your phone from its maker, not from Google, so the answer depends on the brand in your pocket. A Pixel owner can install it today. A Redmi or Infinix owner in Lahore may wait months, or never get it.

Google's Android 17 release post said the update was "available on most supported Pixel devices" from day one, with new phones from other makers "in the coming months".

21 Pixel devices get Android 17 from Google

Google's developer page lists 21 Pixel devices that get Android 17 over the air: every Pixel from the Pixel 6 onwards, plus the Pixel Fold and Pixel Tablet. The Pixel 5a and older phones are not on the list and no longer get any updates.

The Pixel 11 series went on sale in August 2026, after this list was published. Google's Pixel update page covers it with 7 years of updates, like the Pixel 11 Pro and the rest of the family.

Pixels in Pakistan are mostly imported, but the update does not depend on where you bought the phone. It comes from Google over the internet, like any other Pixel update.

Pixel 6 owners are near the end of updates

Google promises 5 years of Android and security updates for the Pixel 6, 6 Pro, 6a, 7 series and Pixel Fold. The Pixel 8 and newer get 7 years. The years count from when each phone first went on sale on Google's US store.

Google's own dates put the Pixel 6 and 6 Pro on sale in October 2021. Five years from that is October 2026. By our reading of Google's policy, Android 17 is very likely the last big Android version those two phones will get. The Pixel 6a went on sale in July 2022, so it has until about July 2027.

• Pixel 6 and 6 Pro: on sale October 2021, 5 years, ends around October 2026.
• Pixel 6a: on sale July 2022, ends around July 2027.
• Pixel 7 and 7 Pro: on sale October 2022, ends around October 2027.
• Pixel 8 and 8 Pro: on sale October 2023, 7 years, ends around October 2030.

A phone out of support still works. But it stops getting security fixes, and apps slowly drop it. WhatsApp has already stopped working on Android 5 phones, which shows where that road ends.

Samsung's One UI 9 is the Android 17 update for Galaxy phones

Samsung calls its Android 17 update One UI 9. Samsung said in May that One UI 9 is "built on the new Android 17". The stable version first came on the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra, Fold8 and Flip8, then reached the Galaxy S26, S26+ and S26 Ultra from 16 September 2026.

Samsung's 16 September announcement says the update "is expected to gradually roll out to other Galaxy devices". It does not name them, and it gives no dates for Pakistan. We found no Samsung Pakistan schedule either.

New Galaxy phones already come with it. Samsung's spec sheets list Android 17 with One UI 9 on the Galaxy Z Fold8 series, the Z Flip8 and the Galaxy S26 FE, which arrived in Pakistan at Rs 249,999.

If you own an older Galaxy S or a Galaxy A phone, expect it after the flagships. Samsung has not said which A-series phones get One UI 9, so any list you see shared on WhatsApp is not from Samsung.

Xiaomi and other brands have not published Android 17 lists for Pakistan

Xiaomi's global HyperOS page still showed the older HyperOS 3 schedule when we checked on 28 September 2026. Lists of Xiaomi, Redmi and POCO phones getting HyperOS 4 on Android 17 are circulating, but Xiaomi has not published one on its global site.

Several brands did test Android 17 early. Google's developer page lists nine makers that offered an Android 17 Beta on some of their phones:

A beta is a test version, not the final update. It tells you the brand is working on Android 17, not when your phone gets it. Tecno and Infinix, two of the biggest names in Pakistani phone shops, are not on the beta list. That does not mean they will skip Android 17. It means they have said nothing we could find on an official page.

So for these brands, the honest answer is: wait for the phone's own update notice, or check the brand's official site or app. Do not install update files from social media groups. A fake "Android 17 update" file is an easy way to put malware on a phone.

Check your Android version and update in two minutes

Open Settings, then About phone, then Android version, to see what you run now. To look for the update, open Settings, then System, then Software updates. Google advises Wi-Fi and at least 75 per cent battery before you start.

1. Back up your photos and WhatsApp chats first.
2. Connect to Wi-Fi, because the file is large.
3. Charge the phone to at least 75 per cent.
4. Open Settings, then System, then Software updates.
5. Download, install and restart when asked.

Menu names differ a little between brands, so search Settings for "update" if you cannot find it. Google says updates roll out in stages and "it may take a few weeks" to reach every phone. So if your Pixel shows nothing today, check again next week. iPhone owners have their own list for the iOS 27 update.

When was Android 17 released?

Google released Android 17 on 15 June 2026, starting with most supported Pixel phones.

Does the Pixel 5 get Android 17?

No. Google lists the Pixel 5, Pixel 5a and older phones as no longer receiving Android or security updates.

Is One UI 9 the same as Android 17?

Yes, in practice. Samsung says One UI 9 is built on Android 17, so a Galaxy phone that gets One UI 9 is on Android 17.

When will my Samsung A-series phone get Android 17?

Samsung has not said. Its September announcement only says One UI 9 will gradually roll out to other Galaxy devices.

Will Tecno and Infinix phones get Android 17?

Neither brand has published an Android 17 list on an official page we could read. Wait for the update notice on your phone.

Can I get Android 17 on a phone that is not on the list?

Not officially. Flashing unofficial software can break the phone and its warranty, so we would not do it.
