iOS 27 in Pakistan: Supported iPhones and How to Update

iOS 27 is out. Apple released it on 14 September 2026, and it runs on the iPhone 11 and every newer iPhone, including the iPhone SE (2nd generation) and later. To update, back up first, plug in, join Wi-Fi, then open Settings, General, Software Update.

We read Apple's security releases list, the iOS 27 security notes, the iPhone User Guide's list of compatible models and Apple's feature availability page on 28 September 2026. As of that day, Apple lists iOS 27 itself as the newest iPhone release. We found no iOS 27.0.1 on Apple's list yet.

The good news for Pakistani owners of older phones is simple. No iPhone was dropped this year. Apple's own list gives "iPhone 11 and later" for both iOS 27 and the last iOS 26 update, iOS 26.7, which came out the same day.

iOS 27 supports the iPhone 11 and every newer iPhone

Apple says iOS 27 works on the iPhone 11 and later. That covers 33 models in the iPhone User Guide, from the 2019 iPhone 11 to the iPhone 18 Pro Max, including two iPhone SE models. Apple's iOS 27 page adds the new iPhone Duo, which makes 34.

An iPhone XS, XR or anything older cannot install iOS 27. Those phones stopped at an earlier version. If you are buying second hand in Pakistan, an iPhone 11 is the cheapest way into the current software, and it still gets security fixes.

If you are pricing a new phone instead, the iPhone 18 Pro PTA tax and the iPhone Duo price in Pakistan both matter more than the software, since every current model ships with iOS 27 anyway.

Back up your iPhone before you update

Apple's update instructions start with a backup, and they are right to. A failed install is rare. But a phone that gets stuck during the update, or is lost later, takes your photos and chats with it.

These are Apple's steps for a manual iCloud backup:

• Connect to Wi-Fi.
• Open Settings, tap your name, then tap iCloud.
• Tap iCloud Backup, then Back Up Now.
• Stay on Wi-Fi until it finishes. The date and time of your last backup appears under Back Up Now.

The free iCloud storage fills up fast on a phone full of photos. If iCloud says there is not enough space, Apple offers to sell you more, or you can back up to a Mac or Windows PC with a cable instead. WhatsApp keeps its own separate chat backup, so run that too from inside WhatsApp's settings.

How to update to iOS 27, step by step

The update is free and comes over Wi-Fi. Apple's steps are short: plug in, connect to Wi-Fi, open Settings, General, Software Update, and tap Download and Install. You may be asked for your passcode, and the phone restarts to finish.

1. Back up your iPhone, as above.
2. Plug the phone into a charger.
3. Connect to Wi-Fi. Turn off any VPN or proxy first.
4. Open Settings, tap General, then tap Software Update.
5. If iOS 27 shows, tap Download and Install and follow the steps on screen.

The VPN step matters here. Apple's own support page says VPN or proxy connections can stop the phone from reaching Apple's update servers. Many people in Pakistan keep a VPN switched on all day, and forget it when an update fails.

If you want to stay on iOS 26 for now, you can. Apple released iOS 26.7 for the same phones on the same day. The Software Update screen shows the options your phone is offered.

Storage space and Wi-Fi tips for the iOS 27 download

Apple does not publish a fixed download size for iOS 27. It depends on your model and current version, and the Software Update screen shows the size before you start. If space is short, Apple's page says the phone can remove apps for a while and reinstall them after.

Four practical points, from Apple's instructions and Pakistani conditions:

• Low space: if a message asks to remove apps temporarily, tap Continue. Apple says those apps come back automatically after installation.
• Wi-Fi, not mobile data: a major version like iOS 27 is a large download. Home fibre or office Wi-Fi is cheaper and steadier than a mobile bundle.
• Load shedding: start when the router has power for the next hour, or run it off a UPS.
• No hurry: the update stays available, so there is no need to install it on a weak connection.

Features Apple limits by region, and what that means in Pakistan

Apple's feature availability page for iOS 27 does not name Pakistan as excluded from the headline feature, Siri AI. It says Siri AI works in English and is not available in China mainland or the European Union. Other features, like Apple Pay, still do not list Pakistan.

So an iPhone 11 to iPhone 14 owner gets iOS 27 and its speed and design changes, but not Siri AI. To use Siri AI on a supported phone, set the device and Siri language to English. We have not yet tested Siri AI on a Pakistani number, so treat availability here as what Apple's page says, not a result we checked.

Apple also says server based AI features have daily usage limits, and that more access will cost a fee in future. It has not said how much.

Updating to iOS 27 does not change your PTA status

PTA's DIRBS system tracks a phone by its IMEI number, not by its software. An iOS update does not change the IMEI, so a registered iPhone stays registered and an unregistered one stays blocked on local SIMs. Updating is not a way around PTA tax.

You can check your IMEI and PTA status by dialling *#06# to see the number and checking it with PTA's DIRBS. If your phone is not registered yet, the steps to register a mobile with PTA are the same after iOS 27 as before it.

When was iOS 27 released?

On 14 September 2026. Apple's security releases list gives that date for iOS 27 and iPadOS 27.

Will my iPhone XR or iPhone XS get iOS 27?

No. iOS 27 starts at the iPhone 11 and the iPhone SE (2nd generation). The XR, XS and older models cannot install it.

Does Siri AI work in Pakistan?

Apple's page does not exclude Pakistan. It says Siri AI works in English and is not available in China mainland or the EU. You need an iPhone 15 Pro or newer Apple Intelligence model.

Will updating to iOS 27 unblock a non-PTA iPhone?

No. PTA registration depends on the IMEI, and a software update does not change it. The phone needs to be registered and the tax paid.
