Short answer: Google's October 2026 Android security bulletin sets the patch level at 2026-10-01 and lists 30 fixes for Android 14, 15, 16 and 17. Samsung published its own October bulletin on 6 October with 9 critical Google fixes. Open your phone's update screen and look for a patch date of 1 October 2026 or later.

Most phones in Pakistan get this patch weeks after Google ships it, and some never get it. That makes the date on your own screen the only fact that matters. This article gives you the official numbers, then the steps to read your date and what to do if it is old.

We opened the Android Security Bulletin for October 2026 and Samsung's October 2026 security update page on 12 October 2026. We did not test the update on a phone sold in Pakistan, so we cannot tell you when each brand's Pakistani units get it.

Google lists 30 fixes at patch level 2026-10-01

The Android bulletin was published on 5 October 2026 and updated on 8 October. It names the patch level 2026-10-01 and lists 30 vulnerabilities across the Framework, System and Mainline parts of Android. It covers Android 14, 15, 16 (including the QPR2 release) and 17.

Seven of the fixes are in the Framework and 19 are in System, which includes Bluetooth, NFC and Wi-Fi code. The rest sit in Project Mainline modules for Telephony and Wi-Fi. The bulletin calls the most severe issue a local escalation of privilege that needs no extra permissions. It also lists a critical denial-of-service flaw in the Framework.

Reports of the total differ. Some summaries say 28 fixes, and the bulletin page lists additional Pixel-only fixes in a separate bulletin. We use the number we read on the bulletin page and mark the others as reported.

Samsung's bulletin carries 9 critical Google fixes plus its own

Samsung's SMR-OCT-2026 bulletin, version 1.0, is dated 6 October 2026. It includes 9 critical and 36 high-severity Google patches, 4 high-severity patches from Samsung Semiconductor, and 27 Samsung-specific items. We saw no mention of attacks in the wild in the release notes.

Samsung does not list individual phone models in that bulletin. It says only that the fixes apply to flagship models running Android 14 to 17. Different summaries give different totals, such as 62 fixes, so the grouping above is the safest reading of the official page.

Samsung rolls the patch out in waves, starting with the newest flagships. If you own a Galaxy A series or an older model, the patch can arrive weeks later. Our One UI 9 update guide covers which Galaxy phones are in line for the bigger Android 17 update.

Check your own patch date, not the headline

Open Settings, then About phone, then Android version, and read the line called Android security update. If it shows 1 October 2026 or later, you have this patch. If it shows an earlier month, the patch has not reached your phone yet. Menu names vary by brand.

  1. Open Settings on your phone.
  2. Go to About phone, then Android version.
  3. Read the date next to Android security update.
  4. Go to Software update and tap Check for updates, or Download and install.
  5. Restart the phone when it asks, and read the date again.

Our guide on checking your Android security patch date shows the same screens in more detail, with the brand-by-brand menu names.

A late patch is not a reason to panic, but it is a reason to be careful

The bulletin does not say these flaws are being used in attacks, and Samsung's notes do not either. A missing patch only means the known holes stay open longer. You can lower the risk by installing apps only from the official store and keeping Google Play Protect on.

Do not install an update file from a WhatsApp link or a Telegram channel. Fake update files are a common way to infect phones. If you already did, our guide on removing a fake APK installed from a WhatsApp link lists what to do first.

Also use Google's Play Protect settings. Our guide on checking Google Play Protect and app permissions takes about three minutes.

When your phone is too old for the patch

Each brand sets its own support period. A phone that no longer gets monthly patches will keep an old date forever. In that case, avoid banking apps on it where you can, and plan a replacement. The bulletin covers Android 14 and newer only, as read on the page.

Before you buy, ask the seller which patch date the phone shows and how many years of updates the brand promises in writing. A box label is not a promise. A used phone should show a patch date within the last few months.

Common questions

What is the October 2026 Android security patch level?

The patch level is 2026-10-01. The Android bulletin published on 5 October 2026 sets it.

A phone that shows 1 October 2026 or later in its settings has the fixes from that bulletin.

Does the October patch fix a flaw that is being attacked right now?

We saw no such note on the pages we read. The Android bulletin page and Samsung's release notes did not mention attacks in the wild.

That can change if either company updates its bulletin, so check the pages again if the news changes.

How many fixes are in the October 2026 Android bulletin?

The bulletin page lists 30 fixes at the 2026-10-01 level. Some summaries say 28, and Pixel phones have a few extra fixes in a separate bulletin.

We use the number on the bulletin page.

Why has my Samsung phone not got the October update?

Samsung sends updates in waves, starting with its newest flagships. Mid-range and older phones come later.

Open Software update and check for updates once a week until it appears.

Can I install the patch myself from a file I found online?

No. Only install updates through the Software update screen on your phone.

Files shared on social apps can carry malware, and they do not make your phone safer.

Which Android versions does the October 2026 bulletin cover?

It covers Android 14, 15, 16 (including QPR2) and 17.

Phones on Android 13 or older are not listed on the page we read.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

We read the Android Security Bulletin for October 2026 at source.android.com and Samsung's monthly bulletin at security.samsungmobile.com on 12 October 2026. We did not verify when each brand's Pakistani units receive the patch, and rollout dates can change.
