Short answer: The Balochistan Provincial Civil Service (PCS) exam is for Assistant Commissioner and Section Officer posts, both BPS-17. BPSC's FAQ says you prepare seven subjects, three optional and four compulsory, you get three attempts, and you need a Balochistan domicile. Its listed fee is Rs 1,500 per post.

Aspiring civil servants in Balochistan often prepare for the federal CSS and forget the provincial route. The PCS exam is the provincial door, and its rules sit in a short FAQ on the BPSC website.

We read the Balochistan Public Service Commission FAQ page on 14 October 2026. Its page footer carries a 2022 date, and some of its answers describe older fee payment steps. We did not check whether a PCS advertisement is open today, so treat this as a preparation guide. Nothing here replaces the advertisement.

PCS fills Assistant Commissioner and Section Officer posts

PCS stands for Provincial Civil Service. BPSC says it announces the exam when it receives a requisition for the post of Assistant Commissioner (BPS-17) or Section Officer (BPS-17). There is no fixed yearly date, so you watch the BPSC jobs page and the press notices.

The FAQ says the exam is announced when the requisition arrives from the government, not on a fixed calendar. That is why the preparation has to start before the advertisement. Seven subjects take months.

Our look at the BPSC exam schedule from 19 October to 3 November shows how the Commission lists tests once they are set. For the application steps, read how to apply for BPSC jobs online.

Four steps to prepare for the Balochistan PCS exam

Seven subjects and three attempts

BPSC says the PCS exam has seven subjects: three optional and four compulsory, including a general paper in language. You have only three chances to appear in the PCS exam. Choose your optional subjects with care, because an attempt is used when you sit.

Language paperA general paper in language is among the compulsory
AttemptsOnly three chances
DomicileBalochistan local or domicile certificate

The FAQ does not list the compulsory or optional subjects, the marks or the syllabus. Those are on the BPSC syllabi page. We did not read the syllabi, so we cannot say what the papers are.

Eligibility follows the service rules and the zone

You must hold a Balochistan local or domicile certificate. Your qualification and age must meet the service rules and the zonal allocation in the advertisement. BPSC may cancel a candidature if it finds a serious deficiency at any stage, so check the advertisement before you pay.

  1. Confirm your Balochistan domicile or local certificate is in order.
  2. Read the qualification and age lines in the advertisement when it appears.
  3. Check your zone against the zonal allocation printed in it.
  4. Count your age on the closing date, using your Matric date of birth.
  5. Apply separately for each post you want.

For the age rule, BPSC counts one day over or under as ineligible. We explain that in our guide to the BPSC age rule. The degree rules are in the guide to BPSC degree and result rules.

Subjects in the Balochistan PCS exam

The fee answers on the page do not match

The FAQ gives Rs 1,500 for each post, Assistant Commissioner or Section Officer. In a later answer it says both posts can be paid on one slip for Rs 2,000. These two figures do not agree, so check the fee in the advertisement and on the portal before you pay.

The FAQ also describes payment on a green treasury challan, Form-32A, at a National Bank of Pakistan or State Bank of Pakistan branch in Balochistan, under head C02101. Newer BPSC advertisements, such as the ones we cover, use a PSID through 1Link instead. Follow the method the current advertisement gives.

BPSC issues an acknowledgement slip for each post you apply to, whether you submit by hand or online. Keep it. The Commission informs candidates by press release in newspapers, on bpsc.gob.pk, by roll number slips posted to your address and by SMS to the number you gave.

Prepare before the advertisement comes

Because the exam is announced only when a requisition arrives, the best use of your time is to prepare now. Learn the syllabus, pick the optional subjects and keep your documents ready. Seven subjects with three attempts leave little room for a rushed first try.

Keep a folder with your Matric certificate, degrees with marks sheets, domicile and CNIC. If you are in service, plan for departmental permission. After a written test, BPSC also needs a verified domicile copy, as the BPSC exam day documents guide explains.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked on 14 October 2026, Pakistan time. We read the BPSC FAQs page. We did not check for an open PCS advertisement, and we did not read the PCS syllabus, so we cannot confirm the papers, marks or the current fee. The FAQ's fee answers conflict and its payment method may be old.
