Check a Punjab E-Challan by CNIC or Number Plate, and Pay It Without a Bank Queue

Enter a plate, CNIC or chassis number on the PSCA portal and every pending challan shows. How to pay on ePay Punjab, and the fake SMS trap.

Checking a Punjab traffic e-challan by CNIC or number plate

A camera flashed somewhere on Ferozepur Road three weeks ago and you have been wondering ever since. There is no need to wonder: every pending e-challan in Punjab is visible online, by CNIC or number plate, free, in under a minute.

We opened the portal before writing this, and the fields it actually asks for are slightly different from what most guides claim, so here is the process as it exists.

Checking and paying a Punjab e-challan step by step

Checking by CNIC or plate

The official portal is echallan.psca.gop.pk, run by the Punjab Safe Cities Authority, and it covers Lahore and the Punjab cities on the camera network.

The form asks for your number plate, entered exactly as printed, plus your CNIC or chassis number. Submit, and anything pending against the vehicle appears: the violation, where the camera caught it, the date, and the amount.

Three details that answer most of the confusion we see.

The challan follows the vehicle, not the driver. If your brother was driving, the registration's owner still owns the fine, which is also why a car sold without completing the transfer keeps generating your challans. Punjab now requires registration before delivery on new vehicles partly for this reason.

A clean result means clean today. Challans are uploaded as violations are processed, so a check on Monday says nothing about the camera on Tuesday. Check again before paying token tax or selling.

Islamabad is a different system. The capital runs its own portal at traffic.islamabadpolice.gov.pk, which we verified separately, and the address many guides quote for it, islamabadtrafficpolice.gov.pk, does not exist. A Punjab plate caught in Islamabad shows there, not on PSCA.

Paying it

The challan page generates a PSID, a payment slip number, and that number pays through ePay Punjab, any major bank's app, or a mobile wallet. Counter payment at designated banks still works with the printout for anyone who prefers paper.

Pay through the PSID rail and the challan clears against the vehicle automatically. That matters at token tax time, because unpaid challans surface exactly then, attached to the vehicle record, and our guide to paying token tax online covers what that interaction looks like.

Check the plate before you buy the car

This is the use nobody writes about, and it is worth more than the compliance check.

Because the search accepts any plate number, you can check a vehicle that is not yours. If you are buying a used car, that means you can find out what fines are attached to it before you hand over the money.

Unpaid challans travel with the vehicle rather than the driver. A seller may not even know about them, particularly if the car was ticketed by a camera and the notice went to an old address. Either way, an outstanding challan is something you can discover in seconds now or at the transfer counter later.

Do it in the same session as the registration check. Verifying the vehicle itself is a separate system, and the route for every province is in our guide to vehicle verification.

Getting the plate format right

Most failed searches are a format problem rather than a clean record, so work through these before concluding there is nothing outstanding.

  1. Enter the plate as the system shows it. The page itself gives ABC 000, ABC 0000 and ABC-00-0000 as accepted patterns.
  2. Try the variants. Spaced, hyphenated, and without separators. Plate formats have changed over the years and older vehicles do not match newer patterns.
  3. Use the CNIC search instead if you are checking your own record. That finds challans against you across any vehicle rather than one plate.
  4. Fall back to the chassis number when the plate returns nothing at all.
  5. Do not treat an empty result as proof. A format mismatch returns nothing rather than an error explaining itself.

That last point recurs across Pakistani government systems. A wrong reference number does not tell you it is wrong, it just returns silence, which is the same trap we found with NADRA tracking IDs and utility bill reference numbers.

This is the part that has become genuinely dangerous this year, and it deserves its own stop sign.

Real PSCA challan notifications come from the shortcode 9915, and PSCA has said publicly that its messages never contain payment links and never ask for card or banking details. A wave of fake challan texts is circulating right now doing exactly those things, convincingly, and PTA has blocked over a hundred phishing sites dressed up in PSCA branding.

The rule that defeats all of it: never pay from a link in a message. Open the portal yourself, or open ePay Punjab yourself, and pay what those show. We took the whole scam apart in the fake e-challan piece, including what to do if you already clicked.

If the challan looks wrong

Cameras make mistakes, plates get cloned, and a challan for a place your car has never been is not unheard of.

  1. Do not just pay it to make it go away if it is genuinely wrong, because payment closes the matter.
  2. Note the evidence on the challan page, which typically includes the photo, location and timestamp.
  3. Take it to the PSCA facilitation channel referenced on the portal, with the registration book and your CNIC.
  4. If the plate in the photo is not your vehicle, that is a cloned plate complaint, and it is worth filing properly because the next challan will not be the last.

While you are in the records anyway, two checks pair naturally with this one: verifying the vehicle's registration on MTMIS shows what the province thinks it knows about your car, and checking the SIMs on your CNIC is the same one-minute habit applied to your identity.

Questions readers are asking

How do I check an e-challan by CNIC?

On echallan.psca.gop.pk, enter your number plate along with your CNIC or chassis number. Pending challans appear with the violation, location and amount. It is free.

Can I check a Lahore challan without the CNIC?

The portal pairs the plate with the CNIC or the chassis number, so one of the two identity fields is needed alongside the plate.

How do I pay an e-challan online?

Generate the PSID from the challan page and pay it through ePay Punjab, a bank app or a mobile wallet. Designated bank counters accept the printout.

Does the Punjab portal show Islamabad challans?

No. Islamabad runs its own system at traffic.islamabadpolice.gov.pk. A vehicle fined in both places has to be checked in both.

I got an SMS with a payment link. Is it real?

No. Real PSCA messages come from 9915 and never carry links or ask for card details. Open the portal yourself and pay only what it shows.

What happens if I ignore a challan?

It stays on the vehicle record and surfaces at token tax or transfer time, when it becomes an obstacle rather than a message. Nothing about a real challan expires in 24 hours, whatever a scam text claims.

How to Check Your Sui Gas Bill Online

We opened both gas portals today. SSGC asks for a 10 digit customer number and SNGPL for a consumer number. Neither asks for 14 digits.
