E-Challan Check: Where Each Province Actually Keeps It

There is no national e-challan portal in Pakistan. Each province runs its own, and they do not share records. A Lahore challan will not appear on a Karachi search.

We opened every one on 25 August 2026, and opened the Islamabad and Khyber Pakhtunkhwa portals again on 24 October 2026. This is what each will accept.

The differences matter more than they look. Punjab, Sindh and Islamabad will find a challan you did not know about. Khyber Pakhtunkhwa will not, because it needs the number from your slip.

Punjab and Sindh accept the most identifiers

Punjab lets you search on your CNIC or your number plate, which is the useful combination, because it finds challans you were never handed. We cover the working portal and the payment routes in checking a Punjab e-challan.

Sindh runs a system called Tracs E-Ticket at challan.sindhpolice.gov.pk, and it accepts the widest set of identifiers of any province: ticket number, CNIC, licence number or plate.

Sindh also publishes something the others do not, and it is worth knowing before you delay. The fine is discounted within 14 days, normal from 14 to 21, and doubles after 21 days. At three months a licence is suspended, and at six the system lists CNIC impounding. The full timeline is in checking a Karachi e-challan.

Islamabad now searches by vehicle number or CNIC

Islamabad's check has moved. On 24 October 2026 the Islamabad Traffic Police portal at traffic.islamabadpolice.gov.pk/Echallan was working, and it asks for one of two things: the vehicle number or the CNIC, both typed without dashes, plus a captcha code.

That closes the gap this page used to describe. When we first checked in August, the only working route was an Excise Islamabad page on a bare numbered address that took a challan number and nothing else, and the traffic police website did not resolve. On 24 October the Excise website no longer listed that challan page, and the numbered address did not respond to us. Use the ITP portal instead.

The portal gives 051-9001541 for e-challan queries. We did not search a real vehicle, so we have not seen a result screen. Payment routes, and what we could and could not confirm about them, are in checking and paying an Islamabad e-challan.

Khyber Pakhtunkhwa takes the ticket number only

KP Police link a Traffic Challan Verification service, and it sits on ptpkp.gov.pk, the provincial traffic police.

In August the site blocked our automated checks. On 24 October 2026 we opened it in an ordinary browser window after its security screen, and the form has one box: the challan number. There is no CNIC or number plate search, so keep the slip until the fine is cleared.

Balochistan has vehicle verification, not challan checking

The Balochistan excise department's site offers online vehicle verification, which is a different thing: it confirms a vehicle's registration rather than telling you what fines are outstanding.

That tool works. It takes a registration number and a district from a list of Balochistan districts.

Two things to know about it. It sits on a .com address rather than a .gov.pk one, reached from the department's own homepage, and it carries no government branding or statement of who runs it. We are not making any claim about who operates it. We are telling you what is and is not on the page, because you should know when you are typing a registration number into something you cannot trace.

For an actual challan check in Balochistan, we could not find one online.

Two things that are true in every province

Check by number plate as well as CNIC, if the portal allows it. A challan follows the vehicle. If you have recently bought a car, its unpaid fines may still be attached to it, and if you have recently sold one, a challan may still be pointing at you until the transfer is recorded.

Never pay through a link in a message. This is the single most reliable rule here. Real systems give you a reference number to pay through your own bank or an official counter. They do not send you a payment page by SMS, and they never ask for a one time code. The current wave is covered in the fake e-challan SMS scam.

Why this is worth doing now

Unpaid challans have started to attract consequences beyond the money.

Sindh's system already lists licence suspension at three months and CNIC impounding at six. Lahore's traffic chief has separately proposed tying CNIC and passport issuance to clearing challan dues, which is a proposal rather than a rule, and we set out its legal position in the CNIC and passport block proposal.

Whatever happens to that proposal, the direction is one way. A challan is cheaper and simpler to clear now than to argue about later.

If you are clearing one this week, the order that saves the most trouble:

1. Search your own province first, using whichever identifier that portal accepts.
2. Search by plate as well if you have bought or sold a vehicle in the last year.
3. Note the reference or PSID the portal gives you. That is what you pay against.
4. Pay through your own bank app or an official counter, never a link you were sent.
5. Re-check the portal a day later to confirm the record shows cleared.

What we could not verify

We hold no challan in any province. So we tested which identifiers each portal accepts and whether it responds. We did not submit a real lookup and cannot promise a record comes back.

We read the KP form on 24 October 2026 and tested it only with a made-up number, which returned no data.

We could not find any online challan check for Balochistan. That does not prove none exists, only that it is not linked from the department's own site.

We have not tested payment end to end in any province.

Portals move. Islamabad's check moved from a numbered Excise address to the traffic police portal between August and October, which is exactly the kind of change that happens without notice.
