How to Correct a Mistake in Your Land Record in Punjab: Free, Four Types of Correction
Fix a wrong name, area or entry in your Punjab land record. See PLRA's four correction types, the papers to take and when a court order is needed. Start here.

Short answer: To correct a mistake in your Punjab land record, take your original CNIC, ownership proof (registry or mutation) and an affidavit to your Arazi Record Centre. PLRA says the correction is free of cost and needs NADRA biometric checks. Errors that touch someone else's rights need a court or Collector order.
A name spelt wrong in the fard. A kanal recorded as 18 marla. A heir missing from an inheritance entry. These small slips stop a sale, a bank loan or a mutation cold. The fix depends on what kind of mistake it is, and the Punjab Land Records Authority (PLRA) sorts them into four types.
We read PLRA's Correction of Land Records page and its FAQ text on the PLRA website on 11 October 2026. We did not file a correction ourselves, because that needs a real record and a biometric visit.
PLRA sorts record mistakes into four types
PLRA lists four main types of correction: data entry correction, manual record correction, mutation correction and name correction. Which one you need depends on where the error sits and whether it affects anyone else's ownership rights.
| Type | What it fixes | Who prepares or approves |
|---|---|---|
| Data entry correction | Computer record does not match the scanned manual record | Service Centre Official prepares, ADLR or LRO approves |
| Manual record correction | Errors in old paper records such as Jamabandi and mutations | Patwari or Qanoongo through Fard Bader |
| Mutation correction | Errors in a mutation, before and after it enters Jamabandi | Same revenue officer, or the District Collector |
| Name correction | A minor spelling error in a name | ADLR or LRO with witnesses |

The same page names who approves corrections: the Assistant Director Land Records (ADLR) or the Land Record Officer (LRO), after due verification.
Data entry errors are the quickest to fix
A data entry correction applies when the computerised record does not match the scanned manual record. The Service Centre prepares a Data Entry Fard Bader, a supervisor verifies it, and the ADLR or LRO approves it. PLRA says it can finish within 30 minutes if documents are verified and no objection arrives.
In most cases you must appear in person. Biometric verification through NADRA is mandatory, to stop impersonation. If you cannot attend, a valid and attested Mukhtarnama Aam (general power of attorney) lets another person file for you.
Start by pulling the current record. The steps to get a fard of your land in Punjab show you what the system holds, so you can point to the exact entry that is wrong.
Name corrections need witnesses and an affidavit
For a name correction, appear before the ADLR or LRO with two witnesses, preferably a Lumberdar and a Pattidar. Bring an affidavit for the correction, proof of ownership such as the mutation or registry, and your CNIC. PLRA says it normally finishes within one working day after verification.
Only minor corrections go through this route. A full change of name needs a Civil Court order, a District Collector order or a Tehsildar order. If the wrong name is in the registry itself, correct the registry at the Sub-Registrar office first. Then update the land record at the ARC.
- Collect your CNIC (original and copy) and your registry or mutation copy.
- Write an affidavit that explains the error.
- Gather supporting evidence such as old manual records or copies.
- Take two witnesses, preferably a Lumberdar and a Pattidar of the same revenue estate.
- Appear at the ARC for biometric verification.
- Check the updated record on the PLRA website afterwards.
Some corrections need a court or Collector order
Only minor clerical mistakes go through the Patwari's Fard Bader, such as spelling, measurement or typing errors that do not affect anyone's ownership. If a mistake affects another person's rights, PLRA says the correction needs an order from the District Collector or a Civil Court.
The same applies to long-standing wrong entries. In that case the applicant must obtain a Civil Court order directing the correction. Once a court has ruled, you can bring the order to the ARC, as explained in how to implement a court order in your land record.
Mutations have a time limit. PLRA says a mutation can be reviewed by the same revenue officer who approved it, but only before it is incorporated into the Periodical Record (Jamabandi). After that, the regular correction of record process through the District Collector applies. If the mutation came from an inheritance, see transferring inherited land in Punjab for how the entry is made in the first place.
You can appeal a rejection or complain about a wrong correction
If your request is rejected, PLRA says you may appeal before the Assistant Commissioner or the District Collector, depending on the case. If a correction itself is wrong or misleading, send a written complaint to the PLRA Complaint Cell or go to the Civil Court.
Once approved, the updated record can be verified on the Punjab Zameen website by checking the updated Jamabandi or mutation. PLRA's page says no fee applies to correction of record or mutation correction.
One caution. On 11 October 2026 the PLRA home page listed Correction of Records under "Future Services", although its information page describes a full process. So assume you apply in person at your ARC and ask staff whether an online form is open.

Do not rely on a correction to settle a dispute. A wrong entry that others rely on, such as a boundary or a share, should be raised with the Collector, not slipped through as a clerical fix. If a sale is pending, confirm the corrected entry through property registry verification before buying.
Common questions
Is there a fee to correct a land record in Punjab?
PLRA's page says correction of record is free of cost and no fee applies on mutation correction. Check at the counter in case a bank or stamp charge arises elsewhere.
Where do I apply for a correction?
Apply at your concerned Arazi Record Centre or Dahi Markaz Mall, depending on the nature of the correction.
Can someone else apply for me?
Yes, with a valid and attested Mukhtarnama Aam. Biometric verification is still required to prevent impersonation.
Can I correct my name entirely?
No. Only minor corrections are allowed through the ADLR. A full name change needs a Civil Court, District Collector or Tehsildar order.
How long does a data entry correction take?
PLRA says it can be completed within 30 minutes if documents are verified and no objection is raised.
What if my correction is rejected?
File an appeal before the Assistant Commissioner or the District Collector, depending on the case.
