Check Your Facebook and Instagram Account for Unoriginal Content in Pakistan: Meta Rules and Fixes
Meta limits reach for reposted and lightly edited posts on Facebook and Instagram. See what counts as original and how Pakistani creators can check and fix.

Short answer: Meta now treats reposted, lightly edited and watermark-only content as unoriginal on Facebook and Instagram. If most of your recent posts are like that, your account can be left out of recommendations to new people. Check your account status in Professional Dashboard, then rebuild around posts you made.
Open any Pakistani meme page or news-clip page on Facebook and you will see the pattern. A video from another creator, a logo in the corner, a new caption. It is quick to make, and Meta has said in plain words that it is no longer enough.
We read Meta's own announcement on original creators on Facebook, dated 13 March 2026. Instagram's matching rule for photos and carousels came on 30 April 2026. Below is what each says and what to do in your account.
Meta defines original content as what you filmed or made yourself
Meta's Facebook announcement says original content is content filmed or produced directly by the creator or the owner of the Profile or Page. Third-party material can still count when you add fresh information, analysis or a real improvement to the story.
That second part matters for news and sports pages. A clip with your own explanation is different from the same clip with a border. The test is what a viewer gets from you that they did not get from the source.
Borders, captions, speed changes and watermarks do not make a post original
Meta lists low-effort changes that do not count: borders, captions added over someone else's video, a changed playback speed, a watermark or a credit to the original creator. Watching along, reacting with a face or stitching clips together without saying anything new also fall short.
| What you posted | How Meta treats it |
|---|---|
| A video you filmed and edited | Original |
| Someone else's Reel with your own analysis added | Can count as original |
| Someone else's Reel with a border, caption or faster speed | Unoriginal |
| Someone else's clip with only a logo or credit | Unoriginal |
| A reaction with a facial expression and no real comment | Unoriginal |
| Several clips stitched together with no narration | Unoriginal |

Instagram extended the rule to photos and carousels on 30 April
As reported, Instagram's recommendation system now applies the same originality test to photos and carousels, not only Reels. If your account mostly posts unoriginal Reels, photos or carousels, it may not be shown to new audiences. Followers still see your posts.
This hits meme, quote and fan pages the hardest. Meta itself accepts that the line is harder to draw for widely shared memes whose first source is old.
What an unoriginal account loses, and how it recovers
On Facebook, Meta says accounts that mostly post unoriginal content can be treated as non-recommendable and demonetised. On Instagram the stated result is no recommendation to new audiences. As reported, eligibility returns once most of your recent posts in a rolling 30 days are original.
Facebook's own earning programme is not open to every country. Our check of Facebook Content Monetization and Pakistan explains where Pakistani creators stand, so the main loss for most pages here is reach, not payouts.
How to check and fix your account in five steps
Look at your last 30 posts, count how many you made yourself, and fix the pattern before you appeal anything. Then use the account status tools Meta provides to confirm.
- Open Professional Dashboard on your Instagram account or Facebook Page and look for account status or content recommendation notices.
- List your last 30 posts and mark each as made by you, reworked by you or reposted.
- Replace reposts with your own footage, voice-over or written analysis.
- Remove third-party watermarks from the edges of videos you reuse.
- Appeal through the account status screen only if your posts are original and reach is limited.

If a hack or a ban is the real problem, that is a different process. Our guide to appealing a disabled Instagram account from Pakistan covers it. Planning your own posts ahead is easier with free scheduling in Meta Business Suite.
Common questions
Can I still repost a video if I credit the creator?
A credit alone does not make a post original, per Meta. Add your own analysis or commentary, and make sure you have the right to use the video.
Will my followers still see unoriginal posts?
As reported for Instagram, followers still see them. The change limits recommendations to new audiences.
How long does it take to recover?
As reported, eligibility returns once most of your recent posts within a rolling 30 days are original. Meta has not given an exact day count for each account.
Does this apply to Pakistani pages and personal profiles?
Meta's rules apply to Profiles and Pages that post publicly and are eligible for recommendations. Where you live does not change the rule.
Where do I see if my account is limited?
Use account status inside Professional Dashboard on Instagram, and the Page quality or account status area on Facebook. Menu names can change by app version.
Does AI-made content count as original?
Meta's originality test asks whether you created or materially edited the content. We did not find an AI-specific exemption in the announcements we read.
How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
We read Meta's announcement Rewarding Original Creators on Facebook on 12 October 2026. Meta's Instagram photo and carousel notice of 30 April 2026 could not be opened as a primary page by us, so those details are reported. Menu names and rules change, so check the apps before you act.
