Short answer: Open banks.smeda.org, choose your sector and loan amount, and the portal lists matching SME loan products from more than 20 partner banks. SMEDA says it lists over 115 products and needs no registration and no fee. You then contact the bank's SME officer yourself.

A small trader walks into one bank, hears one rate and assumes that is the market. Often it is not. SMEDA, the government's small business authority, runs a free search tool so you can see many banks' products side by side before you visit any branch.

We opened the portal on 14 October 2026 and read its home page. We did not apply for a loan through it, and the page shows no interest rates that we could verify.

What the SMEDA banks portal does

The portal says it matches your business with bank loan products and shows rates, eligibility and contact details. It lists more than 115 financing products from more than 20 partner banks, with a top loan size of Rs 500 million. You do not register and you pay nothing.

Banks named on the page include HBL, UBL, NBP and Meezan Bank. The page says you apply directly to the bank, with no middlemen. That matters, because agents who promise to arrange a loan for a fee are not part of this tool.

undefined

The page carries a warning that State Bank schemes are subject to current SBP policy. A scheme listed today can change, so ask the bank to confirm it is still open before you collect papers.

The filters you can use

You can filter by four things: your sector, the purpose of the loan, the amount and the bank. There is also a keyword box. Choosing the right purpose matters most, because a machinery loan and a working capital loan have different terms.

FilterChoices on the portal
SectorAgriculture, manufacturing, services, trading
PurposeWorking capital, machinery purchase, business startup, supplier payments, property construction
Loan amountBelow Rs 5 million, 5 to 20 million, 20 to 50 million, above 50 million

Filters on the SMEDA banks portal for SME loans

Start with a wide search, such as your sector and amount only. Then narrow by purpose. If the list is empty, move to the next amount band, because the bands have hard edges.

How to compare loans step by step

The portal describes three steps: filter and discover, review and compare terms and documents, then contact the bank. Do the comparing on paper too. Write down the markup, fees, security needed and the documents each bank asks for, then call the SME officer.

  1. Open banks.smeda.org on your phone or computer.
  2. Select your sector, the purpose and the loan amount band.
  3. Open two or three products and compare the terms and the document list.
  4. Use the EMI calculator to see the monthly cost. The portal's own example shows Rs 5,000,000 at 12.5% over 3 years as Rs 167,268 a month.
  5. Take the eligibility quiz. It asks three questions about structure, history and turnover.
  6. Contact the SME officer named for the product and ask for the full fee sheet.

The sample figure is an example on the portal, not a quote. Your bank sets the real rate. For a wider view of what banks charge today, see what banks charge and pay in Pakistan.

The eight State Bank schemes on the portal

The portal lists eight State Bank of Pakistan schemes for small firms. They cover credit guarantees, refinancing for modernisation, storage of farm produce, long term plant and machinery loans, and export finance. We did not verify the rates or limits of any of them.

  • Credit Guarantee Scheme for Small and Rural Enterprises
  • Refinance Scheme for Revitalization of SMEs in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Gilgit-Baltistan and FATA
  • Refinancing Scheme for Modernization of SMEs
  • Financing Facility for Storage of Agricultural Produce
  • Long-Term Financing Facility for Plant and Machinery
  • Long-Term Financing Facility for Plant and Machinery: second hand machinery
  • Islamic Export Re-finance Scheme
  • Export Finance Scheme

Ask the bank by name whether it offers the scheme you want. A scheme on the portal does not mean every branch will give it to you.

What to check before you sign a loan

Compare the total cost, not just the monthly payment. Ask about processing fees, insurance, security and what happens if you repay early. Know your rights too: read the SBP rules before you sign anything with a guarantor or a floating rate.

Our guide to your bank cannot raise a fixed loan rate explains early repayment. If a family member will guarantee the loan, read what SBP says the bank must tell a guarantor. To test whether you can afford the instalment, use the SMEDA loan repayment calculator.

Registered businesses usually get a better hearing. If you are a sole trader, see how to register as a sole proprietor with FBR before you apply.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked on 14 October 2026, Pakistan time. We read the home page of banks.smeda.org and the SMEDA homepage. We did not run a search that returned individual products, so loan terms are not verified. The page shows no update date. Confirm each product with the bank.
