Check FBISE's New Composite Practical Exam for Science Subjects From First Annual 2027
FBISE notified composite Practical Based Assessment frameworks on 6 October 2026 for four science subjects. See all four notices in order and what to do now.

Short answer: On 6 October 2026 FBISE notified new frameworks for the Composite Practical Based Assessment (PBA) in Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Computer Science at SSC and HSSC. They apply from the First Annual Examination 2027. The practical marks are consolidated, not split into parts. Frameworks and E-Sheets are on the FBISE website.
Practical exams in science have changed three times in three years. A student in class 10 or 12 in Islamabad could be forgiven for asking which rules apply to them. The answer sits in four FBISE notifications, and they are short.
We downloaded and read all four on 14 October 2026. This guide puts them in order. It covers FBISE-affiliated schools and colleges only. We did not read the frameworks or model papers themselves, so we cannot describe the experiments.
The newest notice was issued on 6 October 2026
Notification No. 1-10/FBISE/RES/320, dated 6 October 2026, covers the composite PBA frameworks under the Inclusive Scheme of Studies 2024 (Revised Version-I). They include lists of experiments, instructions, composite model question papers and E-Sheets for four subjects. They take effect from the First Annual Examination 2027.

The notice names the National Curriculum of Pakistan 2022-23 as the base. The weblink is the board's curriculum and model papers page, where the frameworks and E-Sheets are posted. The notice does not explain E-Sheets, and we did not open one, so read the board page for what they contain.
Four notices show how practicals changed
The notices run from November 2023 to October 2026. Each one covers a different step: a one-year fix for 2024, model papers for 2025, composite frameworks for 2026 and the new frameworks for 2027. Read them in date order to see which one covers your year.
| Date | FBISE notice | What it covers |
|---|---|---|
| 13 November 2023 | No. 946 | Transitional practical policy for 2024 exams |
| 13 September 2024 | No. 672 | PBA model papers for annual 2025 only; composite PBA from 2026 |
| 14 March 2025 | No. 334 | Composite PBA frameworks (Scheme of Studies 2006) from annual 2026 |
| 6 October 2026 | No. 320 | Composite PBA under Inclusive Scheme of Studies 2024, from First Annual 2027 |

All four apply to Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Computer Science.
The 2024 transition removed notebooks and viva
The 13 November 2023 notice set the rule for the 2024 exams only. It dropped marks for practical notebooks and viva voce. Those marks moved to structured questions, answered on answer sheets the board provides. Practicals were set from a list the board published.
That is history now, but it explains why older students talk about "no notebook marks". If your senior says the notebook still counts, check which year they mean.
The 2025 notice moved practicals to a composite exam
In September 2024 FBISE said the new 2022-23 curriculum began at SSC-I and HSSC-I from the 2024 session. It said there would be no PBA for those subjects at SSC-I and HSSC-I in 2025. Composite PBA, with consolidated marks, was to start from the 2026 annual exam.
The March 2025 notice then published the composite frameworks for Scheme of Studies 2006, effective from Annual Examinations 2026. The October 2026 notice is the version for the Inclusive Scheme of Studies 2024, effective from 2027. Which one applies to a student depends on the scheme they were enrolled under, so ask your school.
What students and teachers should do now
Teachers should download the framework for their subject and scheme and plan lab time around the experiment list. Students should ask which scheme they are on, then print the model paper and E-Sheet. Schools that lack lab equipment should raise it early, in writing.
- Ask your school whether you are on Scheme of Studies 2006 or the Inclusive Scheme 2024.
- Open the FBISE curriculum and model papers page.
- Download the composite PBA framework for your subject.
- Download the E-Sheet and model question paper.
- Practise each listed experiment before the exam.

The practical change comes with a theory change. FBISE is also moving five core subjects to 50 percent MCQs and 50 percent descriptive questions, in phases. For dates of the current cycle, see the FBISE second annual exam rules and the Matric second annual date sheet.
If a result looks wrong after a practical paper, read how to apply for FBISE recounting of marks and the rules for FBISE grace marks. Students who need extra time because of a disability can also read about writers and extra time in FBISE exams.
Common questions
When does the new composite PBA start?
From the First Annual Examination 2027, according to FBISE notice No. 320 of 6 October 2026.
Which subjects does it cover?
Physics, Chemistry, Biology and Computer Science, at SSC and HSSC levels.
What is an E-Sheet?
The notice does not define it. FBISE posted E-Sheets with the frameworks, so open them on the board page to see.
Do notebooks and viva carry marks?
For the 2024 exams, no. The 2023 notice moved those marks to structured questions. For later years, read your framework.
Does this apply to Punjab or Sindh boards?
No. These notices are addressed to institutions affiliated with FBISE.
How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
Last checked on 14 October 2026, Pakistan time. We read FBISE notices No. 946 (13 November 2023), No. 672 (13 September 2024), No. 334 (14 March 2025) and No. 320 (6 October 2026), all linked from the FBISE curriculum and model papers page. We did not open the frameworks, E-Sheets or model papers, and we cannot say how the marks are split.
