Google released two free SEO learning playlists on 6 October 2026: "Search fundamentals for beginners" with 15 videos and "Technical SEO fundamentals" with 21 videos, both on the Google Search Central YouTube channel. They cost nothing, need no sign-up, and suit Pakistani students, freelancers and shop owners who want to learn SEO from Google itself.

Ask ten people in Pakistan how they learned SEO and most will name a paid course, a WhatsApp group or a cousin who "does Fiverr". Some of those teachers are good. Many repeat tricks Google has warned against for years.

Google's own Search Central team has now put its videos into two ordered paths. Daniel Waisberg, a Search Advocate at Google, announced them on the Search Central blog on 6 October 2026. We opened both playlists on 9 October 2026 and listed every video in them.

Google's two free SEO playlists from 6 October 2026: Search fundamentals for beginners, 15 videos, and Technical SEO fundamentals, 21 videos

Google now has two free SEO courses on YouTube

The two playlists are "Search fundamentals for beginners" for website owners, marketers and creators, and "Technical SEO fundamentals" for developers and technical SEO specialists. Google built them from videos already on its channel, arranged in a set order so you can learn step by step.

Google said the reason plainly: its channel has hundreds of videos across many series, and finding a clear path from scratch was hard. That is true. Search Central's channel was a library with no reading list. Now it has two.

PlaylistVideosWho it is forMain topics
Search fundamentals for beginners15Site owners, marketers, creators, beginnersHow Search works, Search Console, Google Trends
Technical SEO fundamentals21Developers, technical SEO specialistsRobots.txt, crawl budget, indexing, rendering, page weight, APIs

Both are free to watch. You do not need a Google account to play them, though signing in lets you save them to your library.

The beginner path starts with "SEO explained" and how Google crawls, indexes and serves pages. It then moves to search result snippets, Search Console and its Insights view, and finishes with four videos on Google Trends, including how to spot trending topics.

Here is the order we found on 9 October 2026, grouped by stage:

  • Basics: SEO explained, Introducing How Search Works, how Google crawls, indexes and serves pages, Anatomy of a Search Result.
  • Your website: top 5 things to consider for your website, and how to change your search result snippet.
  • Search Console: Search Console explained, getting started with Search Console Insights, and analysing performance on Google Search.
  • Google Trends: intro to Trends data, a Trends walkthrough, Trends for SEO, and Trending Now.

The Trends videos matter more in Pakistan than people think. Search habits here swing hard around budgets, results days, cricket and price changes. Learning to read Trends lets a small publisher or shop see demand before it peaks.

The technical playlist goes deeper into crawling and indexing

The technical path skips the basics and goes into robots.txt, crawl budget and the Crawl Stats report, indexing problems, duplicate content, the URL Inspection tool, how browsers parse HTML, page weight, international sites and Search Console's APIs and bulk data export.

Some titles answer questions Pakistani developers ask all the time. "Help! Google Search isn't indexing my pages" is one. "Can my entire site be re-indexed at my request?" is another, and the short answer people hope for is rarely the real one.

If you build sites for clients on Upwork or Fiverr, this playlist is worth more than a certificate. A client whose pages are not indexed does not care about your badge. They care whether you can read the Crawl Stats report.

A two week plan to learn SEO free with Google's playlists: beginner videos in week one, Search Console practice, then technical videos

A simple two week plan to learn SEO for free

Watch the 15 beginner videos in the first week, two or three a day, and practise each one on a real site. In the second week, set up Search Console and Google Trends on that site, then start the technical playlist if you build or manage websites.

  1. Days 1 to 3: watch the five "how Search works" videos and the anatomy of a search result.
  2. Days 4 and 5: watch the website and snippet videos, then rewrite the title and description of one page you own.
  3. Days 6 and 7: watch the three Search Console videos and verify your site in Search Console.
  4. Days 8 to 10: watch the four Google Trends videos and compare three search terms for your business in Pakistan.
  5. Days 11 to 14: start the technical playlist with robots.txt, crawling errors and indexing.

This plan is our suggestion, not Google's. Practise as you go. Watching 36 videos without touching a site teaches very little.

Pair the videos with Google's written SEO Starter Guide, which is also free. And if you run a shop rather than a blog, getting your shop on Google Maps will often bring more local customers than any ranking trick.

What these videos will not teach you

The playlists explain how Google Search works and how to measure it. They do not teach keyword research tools, link building or content writing in depth, and they are in English. Treat them as the foundation, not the whole job.

They also will not tell you about every update as it happens. For that, Google's Search Status Dashboard is the source, and the September 2026 spam update, which finished on 8 October, is a good example of why it matters.

One honest warning for beginners using AI tools to write pages. Google's guidance on AI-written content judges the page, not the tool, and mass-produced pages can be treated as spam. The videos on quality in the technical playlist explain why.

To measure what visitors do after they land, add analytics as well. Learning to set up Google Analytics 4 fits naturally after the Search Console videos.

Common questions

Are Google's SEO playlists free?

Yes. Both playlists are on the Google Search Central YouTube channel and are free to watch. There is no fee and no sign-up needed to play them.

How many videos are in Google's SEO playlists?

On 9 October 2026, the beginner playlist had 15 videos and the technical playlist had 21, so 36 in total.

Do I get a certificate from Google for these playlists?

Google's announcement does not mention any certificate. They are learning playlists, not a graded course.

Which playlist should a beginner start with?

Start with "Search fundamentals for beginners". Google says it is for website owners, marketers, content creators and people new to SEO.

Are the videos available in Urdu?

The playlists are in English. YouTube's auto-translated captions may help, but we did not check their quality for Urdu.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked on 9 October 2026, Pakistan time. We read Google's Search Central blog post of 6 October 2026 and opened both playlists, Search fundamentals for beginners and Technical SEO fundamentals, to count and list the videos. We also opened Google's SEO Starter Guide. Google can add or reorder videos at any time. The two week plan and the opinions are the author's.
