Pak Weather App: Download PMD's Official Weather App in Pakistan, Plus the WhatsApp Channel and Every Free Alert Route (2026)

PMD's official weather app is called Pak Weather. On Google Play it is listed by the developer "PMD-IT" under the package name com.pmd.kissan, and it gives a three-day forecast for your location plus PMD's warnings and alerts, free. The Pakistan Meteorological Department also runs a WhatsApp channel and accounts on six other platforms, and its forecasts now sit on weather.gov.pk rather than pmd.gov.pk.

Plenty of apps call themselves "Pakistan weather". Only one is PMD's. Below is how to spot the real one, what it does and does not do, every other official channel, and what to check before you forward a weather warning to the family group.

We opened the Pak Weather listing on Google Play, PMD's website and its press release page on 31 October 2026.

Pak Weather is PMD's own app, made by PMD-IT

The Play Store listing calls Pak Weather "the official weather application of Pakistan Meteorological Department". The developer name is PMD-IT and the package name is com.pmd.kissan. PMD's own press releases link to this exact listing at the bottom, under "Pak Weather application".

The "kissan" in the package name means farmer. The app began as a farm weather service, and its description still says it "provides latest weather and forecast at farm level to the farmers". It works the same for anyone.

Download the right app in four steps

Search Google Play for Pak Weather, then check that the developer reads PMD-IT before you install. The surest way is to open the Play link printed at the foot of PMD's own press releases on weather.gov.pk, which goes straight to the official listing.

1. Open Google Play and search "Pak Weather", or open the link at the bottom of any PMD press release.
2. Check the developer name under the title. It must be PMD-IT.
3. Install, then allow location so the app can show your area.
4. Add your village, farm or city as a saved place, and turn on notifications.

We did not find an iPhone version linked from PMD's website or press releases. iPhone users can use weather.gov.pk in the browser and the WhatsApp channel below.

The app gives a three-day local forecast and PMD's alerts

Pak Weather shows live weather for your location and a forecast for the next three days, taken from PMD's computer forecast models. You can save farms or places. It also passes on warnings and alerts issued by PMD's national forecasting service, with area-wise notifications.

One caution. The listing's last update was October 2025, a year before we checked. That does not mean the forecasts are old, since they come from PMD's servers, but if the app misbehaves, use the website.

PMD also posts on WhatsApp and six other platforms

The weather.gov.pk header links to PMD's official WhatsApp channel and its accounts on Facebook, X, Instagram, YouTube, LinkedIn and TikTok. The WhatsApp channel is the easiest for people who do not install apps, because updates arrive where you already chat.

To join the WhatsApp channel safely, open weather.gov.pk on your phone and tap the WhatsApp icon at the top. Do not join a "PMD" channel from a forwarded link you cannot trace back to the website. The National Weather Forecasting Centre's number printed on the site is 051-9250364.

Check a warning on weather.gov.pk before you forward it

Fake weather warnings spread fast in family groups, often with old dates. PMD puts every official warning on weather.gov.pk under Press Release, sorted into Rain-Wind, Heat Wave, Cold Wave, Smog, Tsunami and Rebuttal. If a warning is not there with today's date, do not forward it.

PMD's old domain, pmd.gov.pk, now carries a notice that its live forecasts, warnings and advisories publish at weather.gov.pk, and that both domains belong to PMD. How to test a forwarded warning is set out in how to check a PMD weather warning before sharing. For disaster alerts, the NDMA runs its own app, covered in how to get NDMA alerts and advisories. Farmers who want tehsil-level advice can also use PMD's free farm weather advisory.
