A bowl of olives and an olive sprig, for the Pakistan Embassy in Athens

The Pakistan Embassy in Athens attests Pakistani papers only after the Foreign Office in Pakistan has stamped the original, and Greek papers only after Greece's foreign ministry has attested them with an English translation. The consular section opens Monday to Thursday, 9 am to 1 pm, Friday to 12 noon, and on the first Sunday of every month. It is walk-in, with tokens on arrival.

Most of Greece's Pakistani community works in Athens, Piraeus and the farms around Thebes and Corinth, often six days a week. That is why the first Sunday matters. We read the attestation page of the Embassy of Pakistan in Athens, its consular timings, emergency travel document and contact pages on 1 November 2026. Here is what each one asks for.

The Athens consular section opens on the first Sunday of each month

The embassy's consular timings page says the section works Monday to Thursday from 9 am to 1 pm and Friday from 9 am to 12 noon. On the first Sunday of each month it also opens from 9 am to 12 noon.

DayConsular hours
Monday to Thursday9:00 am to 1:00 pm
Friday9:00 am to 12:00 noon
First Sunday of each month9:00 am to 12:00 noon
Saturday and other SundaysClosed

All services are walk-in on a first come, first served basis. You get a token when you arrive, and no appointment is needed. For workers who cannot leave a farm or a shop on a weekday, the Sunday session is the practical choice, so expect it to be busy and go early.

Pakistani papers need the Foreign Office stamp on the original

Affidavits, powers of attorney, marriage and birth certificates, education documents and family certificates from Pakistan must first be attested by the Foreign Office in Islamabad or its offices in Lahore, Karachi, Peshawar, Quetta or Gujrat. The embassy does not accept photocopies.

That last point catches people. A scanned copy of an attested degree will not do. The original must carry the stamp. Degrees go through HEC before the Foreign Office, as set out in HEC degree attestation online. Board certificates go through IBCC attestation first.

Greek papers work the other way. A Greek marriage or birth certificate must be attested by Greece's foreign ministry, with an English translation. The embassy then attests only the English translation, not the Greek text.

Affidavits and powers of attorney need witnesses with Pakistani passports

For an affidavit or power of attorney made for Pakistan, you appear in person with all your original passports and a recent photograph, plus two witnesses carrying valid original Pakistani passports. An affidavit for use in Greece needs no witnesses.

  1. Bring all your original Pakistani passports.
  2. Bring one recent photograph.
  3. Bring two witnesses with valid original Pakistani passports, for a power of attorney or an affidavit for Pakistan.
  4. If a passport is lost, bring readable photocopies, and wait for verification.
  5. Take a token on arrival and wait to be called.

Companies follow a separate rule. A company's power of attorney must be printed on its letterhead and attested by Greece's foreign ministry. It also needs a readable copy of the signer's passport and an authorisation letter for the person submitting it, with their Greek ID card.

If you would rather not travel, NADRA's online power of attorney is an option, compared in making a power of attorney from abroad.

Register a child born in Greece within six months

The embassy says a child born in Greece must be registered within six months of birth. The birth certificate and its English translation must be attested by Greece's foreign ministry. Both parents must come with the child.

Bring the originals: the child's birth certificate, both parents' passports, proof of residence status in Greece, the marriage certificate and a photograph of the child. If one parent is in Pakistan, that parent sends an authority letter attested by the Foreign Office. If the parent is in a third country, the nearest Pakistani mission there attests it.

When the registration is for a passport, the authority letter must say the parent has no objection to the registration and the passport. A marriage held in Greece also needs the Greek foreign ministry's attestation and an English translation, and the bride and groom must both appear with their passports.

An emergency travel document from Athens costs €5

The embassy issues an emergency travel document to Pakistanis who must go home and have no valid passport. The fee is €5, paid at a nominated bank branch or the machine inside the mission. It is walk-in, through the queue system.

Bring the signed application form, four recent photographs on a white background, copies of your expired passport, CNIC, NICOP, Form B or family registration certificate, and your air ticket booking. A minor needs a parent with their original CNIC and passport. Check your details on the document before you leave the counter.

The embassy is at Vekiareli 15, Filothei 152 37, Athens. General enquiries go to +30 210 7290214 or +30 210 7290122. Its emergency line, +30 6943850188, is WhatsApp only and not for routine consular questions. Passport fees at the same embassy are in the Pakistani passport fee in Greece. The embassy's NADRA link points to NADRA's website, and it describes no NADRA counter, so a NICOP is renewed online.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked 1 November 2026. We read the attestation of documents, consular timings, emergency travel document, contact, FIA link office and passport and travel documents pages of the Embassy of Pakistan in Athens on mofa.gov.pk, all on 1 November 2026. The pages give no fee for attestation or a power of attorney, and no processing time, so we have not stated either. We did not visit the embassy.
