If you paid your passport fee but the counter will not give you a token, wait a little and try again. DGI&P says the system can take time to match payments from different banks. If a payment will not go through, add the six digits 999999 before your 17 digit PSID. If the problem stays, complain on the Passport Fee Asaan app or web portal.

These answers come from the FAQ page of the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (DGI&P) at dgip.gov.pk, which we read on 14 October 2026. The page shows a last-modified date of 7 September 2026. Below we turn its four payment answers into steps you can follow at the counter.

Wait first, because bank payments reach the passport system late

DGI&P says the passport system sometimes takes time to receive fee payments from different bank channels. A paid fee can therefore show "Paid" in the app and still not give you a token. DGI&P asks you to be patient and to return later.

The FAQ says you can go back to the token counter after some time and check the fee and token status. If you cannot wait, it suggests visiting during office hours or on the next working day. A payment made late in the day is the most likely to lag.

Passport offices work on weekdays, with a short break at midday. The passport office timings guide lists the hours and the offices that run round the clock. Keep your payment receipt with you the whole time.

Add 999999 before the 17 digit PSID if the payment fails

When a payment shows an error, DGI&P says to include the six digit prefix 999999 before the 17 digit PSID. Use it under 1-Bill or invoice payment. It works through 1BILL, over the counter, internet banking, ATM, JazzCash, Easypaisa and 1-Link member branches.

PSID means payment slip ID. It is the number the Passport Fee Asaan app or portal gives you after you choose your passport type. Together the prefix and the PSID make a 23 digit number. Type it with no spaces.

Pay only once. If the first try fails, check the status in the app before you try again, so you do not pay twice. DGI&P says a paid fee is not refunded.

Pay a child's fee with the 13 digit registration number

To pay for a child, DGI&P says to use the 13 digit registration number printed beside the child's name on the B-form, the family registration certificate (FRC), or the smart CNIC or NICOP. Children under 15 get only the 5 year passport.

So choose the 5 year fee for a child under 15. A 10 year fee will not match what the office can issue. For the full list of documents a child needs, see how to get a passport for a child in Pakistan.

DGI&P's FAQ lists the base fee for a normal 36 page passport as Rs 4,500 and an urgent one as Rs 7,500. Those are machine-readable passport figures. Fees for the other page counts, for 10 year validity and for the e-Passport differ, and the official passport fee rates have the full table. Offices run by NADRA also add a service charge, payable at the counter.

The fee is not refundable, but you can use it again yourself

DGI&P says a paid passport fee cannot be refunded and cannot be moved to another person. The same applicant can use it for a later passport service, once the amount is checked against the bank scroll or the treasury record.

This matters if you paid the wrong amount or chose the wrong validity. You cannot ask for the money back. You can ask the office to apply it to your own next application, after it verifies the payment. Do not pay for a relative from your own PSID, because the fee cannot be transferred.

  1. Wait some time, then show your receipt and ask the token counter to check the fee again.
  2. If it still fails, come back during office hours the same day or the next working day.
  3. Open Passport Fee Asaan and check that the PSID shows "Paid".
  4. Register a complaint in the app or on the web portal if the token is still not issued.
  5. Call the DGI&P helpline on 051-111-344-777 if you need to speak to someone.

Complain on the app, then use the helpline

DGI&P says you can register a complaint on the Passport Fee Asaan mobile app or web portal if the token problem is not solved. The department's national helpline is 051-111-344-777. The page lists its hours as Monday to Friday.

For a wider complaint about a passport office, the guide to filing a passport complaint with DGI&P covers the citizen portal and the ombudsman. If you can pay by QR code, see also how to pay the passport fee by Raast QR.

One point on timing. Reports say the machine-readable passport will not be issued after 14 October 2026, with only the e-Passport after that. DGI&P has not published that order on its site as far as we saw. Check the latest on the machine-readable passport cut-off before you pay a fee for an MRP.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked 14 October 2026. The payment answers, the 999999 prefix, the child fee rule, the refund rule and the base fees come from the DGI&P FAQ page, which shows 7 September 2026 as its last update. The helpline and timings are on the same site. We did not make a payment ourselves, so we cannot say how long the delay lasts in practice. Check the fee on DGI&P's passport page before you pay.
