Petrol costs Rs 396.65 a litre in Pakistan from Thursday, 8 October 2026, up Rs 1.82. High speed diesel is Rs 394.94, down 91 paisa. Petrol is now Rs 1.71 dearer than diesel, the reverse of Wednesday, when diesel cost Rs 1.02 more.

That is the petrol price today in Pakistan. We read the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority's (OGRA) price sheet for 8 October at about 12:30am PKT. OGRA is the regulator that works out the fuel price under the daily pricing system. Its sheet gives both new prices, effective from midnight.

Petrol is Rs 396.65 and diesel Rs 394.94 today

From 8 October 2026, petrol is Rs 396.65 a litre and high speed diesel is Rs 394.94. Petrol rose Rs 1.82 and diesel fell Rs 0.91 from the 7 October rates. Both figures come from OGRA's own price sheet.

OGRA's sheet says "Effective October 08, 2026, 00:00 hours". It sits at the top of OGRA's list of price publications, directly above the sheet for 7 October. So the 7 October prices lasted one day.

The Petroleum Division had not posted a press release for 8 October when we checked. OGRA's sheet is the primary record, so we use it.

Petrol has risen Rs 9.25 since 1 October

Petrol has now gone up on five price dates in a row, from Rs 387.40 on 1 October to Rs 396.65 today. That is Rs 9.25 a litre in one week. Today's price is also Rs 2.90 above the Rs 393.75 that petrol reached on 22 September.

8 OctoberRs 396.65Up Rs 1.82Rs 394.94Down Rs 0.91

The cause is the world price of petrol. OGRA's sheet shows the Gulf price averaged $132.18 a barrel, up from $131.37 on Wednesday's sheet. The freight and margin on top also rose, from $15.86 to $16.12 a barrel. So the cost of petrol landed at Karachi rose Rs 2.14, to Rs 259.51.

Customs duty fell Rs 0.32, to Rs 24.94, which softened the rise. Net, the pump price moved up Rs 1.82.

OGRA uses a seven working day rolling average of world prices. A change in oil markets therefore reaches the pump slowly and in small steps. That lag also explains why petrol does not fall when oil falls on the same day.

Diesel falls 91 paisa and is now cheaper than petrol

Diesel is down Rs 0.91 to Rs 394.94. It is now Rs 29.98 a litre below its Rs 424.92 peak on 18 September, about 7.1 per cent cheaper. Truck, bus and tractor owners gain most from this run.

High speed diesel price in Pakistan, 1 October to 8 October 2026

Dubai crude, the benchmark for diesel, averaged $107.29 a barrel on today's sheet, down from $107.80. So the landed cost of diesel at Karachi fell Rs 0.91, to Rs 271.66. No margin or levy changed.

The gap between the two fuels has now flipped. Diesel cost Rs 22.84 more than petrol on 25 September, Rs 1.02 more yesterday and Rs 1.71 less today. We said on 7 October that diesel could cross below petrol if the two trends held. That is what OGRA's sheet shows today. It is our reading of the trend, not a forecast from OGRA.

Levies and customs still add Rs 109.94 to each litre of petrol

OGRA's sheet breaks down the Rs 396.65. The petroleum levy is Rs 80 a litre, the climate support levy Rs 5 and customs duty Rs 24.94. Together that is Rs 109.94 on petrol, Rs 0.32 less than yesterday. Diesel carries Rs 100.68, because its customs duty is Rs 15.68.

What makes up the petrol price in Pakistan on 8 October 2026, from OGRA's sheet
  • Petrol landed at Karachi: Rs 259.51 a litre, at $148.30 a barrel including freight and Rs 277.22 to the dollar.
  • Diesel landed at Karachi: Rs 271.66 a litre.
  • Exchange rate adjustment: Rs 1.33 a litre on petrol and zero on diesel.
  • Oil company margin: Rs 7.87 a litre on both fuels.
  • Petrol pump dealer's margin: Rs 9.98 a litre on both fuels.
  • Inland freight margin: Rs 8.02 on petrol and Rs 4.75 on diesel.
  • Sales tax: zero. OGRA's sheet says both fuels are exempt.

The federal government sets the petroleum levy, not OGRA, so it does not move with world prices. Add up the levies, customs duty, the three margins and the exchange rate adjustment and about Rs 137 of every litre of petrol is set at home rather than abroad.

A 40 litre petrol tank costs Rs 72.80 more than yesterday

A 40 litre petrol tank costs Rs 15,866 today, Rs 72.80 more than on 7 October. A 200 litre diesel fill costs Rs 78,988. That is Rs 182 less than yesterday and Rs 5,996 less than at the 18 September peak.

Cost of a petrol and diesel fill in Pakistan on 8 October 2026
  1. Bike, 5 litres of petrol: Rs 1,983.25, up Rs 9.10.
  2. Car, 10 litres of petrol: Rs 3,966.50, up Rs 18.20.
  3. Car, 40 litres of petrol: Rs 15,866, up Rs 72.80.
  4. Pickup, 40 litres of diesel: Rs 15,797.60, down Rs 36.40.
  5. Truck, 200 litres of diesel: Rs 78,988, down Rs 182.

These are our own sums at the reference price. A pump far from the main depots can charge a little more, because OGRA's price leaves out the last leg of freight, from depot to pump. The running record sits with the daily petrol price in Pakistan.

The 9771 relief brings petrol to Rs 296.65

Bikes, rickshaws and cars up to 800cc still get Rs 100 off each litre with a 9771 token. At today's price that makes petrol Rs 296.65 a litre. A bike token covers 5 litres and a car token covers 10 litres.

We have not re-read the official portal, pmfuelrelief.pk, today. When we read it on 7 October it offered Rs 100 a litre for vehicles registered on or after 1 January 2006, with 5 litres for 7 days for bikes and 10 litres for 10 days for cars up to 800cc. Check the portal for any change.

On those terms a 5 litre bike token costs Rs 1,483.25 and a 10 litre car token costs Rs 2,966.50. The SMS format and fixes for a missing token are in how to get petrol relief with code 9771.
