Petrol costs Rs 398.96 a litre in Pakistan from Friday, 9 October 2026, up Rs 2.31. High speed diesel is Rs 395.72, up 78 paisa. Both fuels rose on the same day, and petrol is now Rs 3.24 dearer than diesel.
That is the petrol price today in Pakistan. We read the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority's (OGRA) price sheet for 9 October at about 5am PKT. OGRA is the regulator that works out fuel prices under the daily pricing system. The Petroleum Division announced the same two prices on Thursday evening, as the state broadcaster reported.
Petrol is Rs 398.96 and diesel Rs 395.72 today
From 9 October 2026, petrol is Rs 398.96 a litre and high speed diesel is Rs 395.72. Petrol rose Rs 2.31 and diesel rose Rs 0.78 from the 8 October rates. OGRA's sheet says the prices apply from midnight, "00:00 hours".

| Fuel | 8 October | 9 October | Change |
|---|---|---|---|
| Petrol | Rs 396.65 | Rs 398.96 | Up Rs 2.31 |
| High speed diesel | Rs 394.94 | Rs 395.72 | Up Rs 0.78 |
So the 8 October prices lasted one day. Petrol is now Rs 1.04 short of Rs 400 a litre.
Petrol has risen Rs 11.56 since 1 October
Petrol has now gone up on six price dates in a row, from Rs 387.40 on 1 October to Rs 398.96 today. That is Rs 11.56 a litre in nine days. Today's price is Rs 5.21 above the Rs 393.75 petrol reached on 22 September.

| Date | Petrol | Change | Diesel | Change |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 1 October | Rs 387.40 | Down Rs 0.14 | Rs 400.35 | Down Rs 1.89 |
| 2 October | Rs 390.66 | Up Rs 3.26 | Rs 399.34 | Down Rs 1.01 |
| 3 October | Rs 392.76 | Up Rs 2.10 | Rs 399.64 | Up Rs 0.30 |
| 6 October | Rs 393.64 | Up Rs 0.88 | Rs 397.76 | Down Rs 1.88 |
| 7 October | Rs 394.83 | Up Rs 1.19 | Rs 395.85 | Down Rs 1.91 |
| 8 October | Rs 396.65 | Up Rs 1.82 | Rs 394.94 | Down Rs 0.91 |
| 9 October | Rs 398.96 | Up Rs 2.31 | Rs 395.72 | Up Rs 0.78 |
The cause is again the world price of petrol. OGRA's sheet shows the Gulf petrol price averaged $133.52 a barrel, up from $132.18 on Thursday's sheet. Freight and premium stayed at $16.12 a barrel. So petrol landed at Karachi cost Rs 261.82 a litre, up Rs 2.31. Nothing else on the sheet moved, so the whole rise reached the pump.
OGRA uses a seven working day rolling average of world prices. A rise in oil markets reaches the pump slowly and in small steps, and so does a fall. That lag also explains why petrol does not fall when oil falls on the same day.
Diesel rises 78 paisa after a week of cuts
Diesel is up Rs 0.78 to Rs 395.72. It had fallen on four of the five earlier price dates this month. Even after today's rise, diesel is Rs 29.20 a litre below its Rs 424.92 peak on 18 September, about 6.9 per cent cheaper.

Dubai crude, the world benchmark used for diesel, averaged $107.74 a barrel on today's sheet, up from $107.29. The fixed diesel crack of $41.89 a barrel did not change. The steps behind that crack are in how Pakistan sets the diesel price. Diesel landed at Karachi now costs Rs 272.44 a litre, up 78 paisa.
The gap between the fuels keeps widening. Diesel cost Rs 22.84 more than petrol on 25 September. Today petrol costs Rs 3.24 more than diesel.
Levies and customs still add Rs 109.94 to each litre of petrol
OGRA's sheet breaks down the Rs 398.96. The petroleum levy is Rs 80 a litre, the climate support levy Rs 5 and customs duty Rs 24.94. Together that is Rs 109.94 on petrol, the same as yesterday. Diesel carries Rs 100.68, because its customs duty is Rs 15.68.

- Petrol landed at Karachi: Rs 261.82 a litre, at $149.64 a barrel including freight and Rs 277.21 to the dollar.
- Diesel landed at Karachi: Rs 272.44 a litre, at $156.13 a barrel.
- Exchange rate adjustment: Rs 1.33 a litre on petrol and zero on diesel.
- Inland freight margin: Rs 8.02 on petrol and Rs 4.75 on diesel.
- Oil company margin: Rs 7.87 a litre on both fuels.
- Petrol pump dealer's margin: Rs 9.98 a litre on both fuels.
- Sales tax: zero. OGRA's sheet says both fuels are exempt.
The federal government sets the petroleum levy, not OGRA, so it does not move with world prices. Add the levies, customs duty, the three margins and the exchange rate adjustment, and Rs 137.14 of every litre of petrol is set at home rather than abroad.
A 40 litre petrol tank costs Rs 92.40 more than yesterday
A 40 litre petrol tank costs Rs 15,958.40 today, Rs 92.40 more than on 8 October. A 200 litre diesel fill costs Rs 79,144, Rs 156 more than yesterday but still Rs 5,840 less than at the 18 September peak.

- Bike, 5 litres of petrol: Rs 1,994.80, up Rs 11.55.
- Car, 10 litres of petrol: Rs 3,989.60, up Rs 23.10.
- Car, 40 litres of petrol: Rs 15,958.40, up Rs 92.40.
- Pickup, 40 litres of diesel: Rs 15,828.80, up Rs 31.20.
- Truck, 200 litres of diesel: Rs 79,144, up Rs 156.
These are our own sums at OGRA's reference price. A pump far from the main depots can charge a little more, because OGRA's price leaves out the last leg of freight, from depot to pump. The running record sits with the daily petrol price in Pakistan.
The 9771 relief brings petrol to Rs 298.96
Bikes, rickshaws and cars up to 800cc still get Rs 100 off each litre with a 9771 token. At today's price that makes petrol Rs 298.96 a litre. We read the official portal, pmfuelrelief.pk, on 9 October. It still lists Rs 100 a litre, 5 litres for 7 days for two and three wheelers, and 10 litres for 10 days for cars up to 800cc, for vehicles registered on or after 1 January 2006.
On those terms a 5 litre bike token costs Rs 1,494.80 at the pump and a 10 litre car token costs Rs 2,989.60. The portal says the Rs 100 discount applies to the price on the day you use the token, so what you pay moves with the pump price. The SMS format and fixes for a missing token are in how to get petrol relief with code 9771.
Common questions
What is the petrol price in Pakistan today?
Rs 398.96 a litre from 9 October 2026, up Rs 2.31 from Rs 396.65. OGRA's price sheet and the Petroleum Division's announcement give the same figure.
What is the diesel price today?
High speed diesel is Rs 395.72 a litre, up Rs 0.78 from Rs 394.94. It is still Rs 29.20 below the 18 September peak.
Why did petrol go up again?
The Gulf price of petrol rose to an average of $133.52 a barrel on OGRA's sheet. Taxes, margins and the exchange rate stayed almost the same, so the higher import cost passed straight to the pump.
Has petrol crossed Rs 400 a litre?
No. It is Rs 398.96, which is Rs 1.04 below Rs 400. Whether it crosses depends on world prices over the coming days.
How much is petrol with the 9771 relief?
Rs 298.96 a litre. The discount is a fixed Rs 100 a litre, so the relief price moves with the pump price.
How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
Last checked 9 October 2026, about 5am PKT. We read OGRA's price publications, where the sheet "Effective Dated October 09, 2026" lists petrol at Rs 398.96 and diesel at Rs 395.72 with the full cost breakdown quoted above. The Petroleum Division's announcement of the same prices was carried by Radio Pakistan on 8 October. The relief terms are from pmfuelrelief.pk, read on 9 October. Earlier daily prices are from the OGRA sheets and Petroleum Division releases we read on those dates. The fill costs, gaps and totals are our own arithmetic. Prices change often, so check the pump before relying on any figure here.
