How to Get Petrol Relief in Pakistan With Code 9771
Send REG to 9771 once, then TOK before each fill. Bikes get 5 litres a week and 800cc cars 10 litres every 10 days, at Rs 100 off a litre.
The petrol relief code is 9771. You register once by SMS, then send TOK to 9771 before each fill to get a token. Bikes get 5 litres at Rs 100 off per token, once a week. Cars up to 800cc get 10 litres, once every 10 days.
That last part answers the question most people are asking. You do get relief more than once, but not all at once and not whenever you like. It comes in fixed tokens on a fixed clock.
We read the official scheme portal, pmfuelrelief.pk, on 14 September 2026. Everything below comes from that page unless we say otherwise.

Each SMS costs Rs 1.25 plus tax, according to the portal. There is no app to download and no form to fill.
How to register, step by step
The message has five parts with one space between each. Get the spaces right, because that is where most failed messages go wrong.
- Type REG.
- Type your 13 digit CNIC number with no dashes.
- Type your vehicle number with no dashes and no spaces.
- Type your province code: P Punjab, S Sindh, K Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, B Balochistan, I Islamabad, A Azad Jammu and Kashmir, G Gilgit Baltistan.
- Type the registration date from your registration book as day, month, year, eight digits, and send it to 9771.
The date is the part people get wrong. The portal's own example is 2 September 2026, written as 02092026. Put a zero before a single digit day or month, and do not put spaces inside the date.
A full message looks like this: REG, then the CNIC, then the plate, then the province letter, then the date, all on one line with single spaces. You will get a confirmation SMS when registration is complete.
Send it from a SIM registered on your own CNIC. The portal says the mobile number must be registered on the same CNIC you type in the message. A family member's SIM will not work. Our guide to checking which SIMs are on your CNIC shows how to confirm this first.
Who qualifies
The portal sets rules the news mostly left out, and two of them will rule people out who assume they qualify.
Motorcycles, rickshaws and other two and three wheelers must be registered on or after 1 January 2011. The vehicle does not have to be in your name, and the owner does not need to be at the pump.
Cars up to 800cc must be registered on or after 1 January 2006. The car must be registered in the owner's own name, and the owner must be at the pump in person when the token is used.

Eligibility is checked automatically against NADRA and provincial excise records, so the details in your SMS must match those records exactly.
Can you get petrol relief more than once?
Yes, but on a clock. Each token carries a fixed amount of petrol, and you can only hold one token at a time.

Four rules from the portal decide how this works in practice:
- The amount is fixed. You cannot ask for more or less than 5 or 10 litres on a token.
- One token at a time. While a token is active, no new one is issued. Use it or wait for it to expire.
- An unused token is lost. If you do not use it in time, it expires, and you then wait for the interval before the next one.
- A token is tied to one vehicle. The pump checks the token against the vehicle number, so it cannot be used for another vehicle.
Reporting has described the relief as 20 litres a month for bikes and 30 for cars. The portal does not use monthly figures at all. Our own arithmetic says four weekly bike tokens make 20 litres and three ten day car tokens make 30, so the numbers roughly agree. But the rule you actually live by is the token and its interval, not a monthly total, and a missed token is not carried forward.
On multiple vehicles, the Federal IT Minister is reported by PhoneWorld as saying one CNIC can register only one vehicle, and one vehicle can be linked to only one CNIC. The portal itself does not state this, so treat it as reported.
What happens at the petrol pump
Show the token number to the pump attendant. The attendant enters your vehicle number and token number in a mobile application issued for the scheme, and the app verifies the token.
Once verified, you pay Rs 100 a litre less than that day's price. The price itself is not fixed. If the petrol price changes, what you pay changes with it, but the Rs 100 discount stays the same. You then get a confirmation SMS that the fill has been recorded.
The portal says the discount applies at all petrol pumps. If a pump refuses a valid token, note the pump, the time and the token number and call 9771. Pump complaints are one of the things the helpline is set up to take. Our guide to complaining about a petrol pump covers the other routes.
Fake codes and wrong information
This scheme has attracted a lot of copycat pages, and some are giving advice that will cost you money or hand your CNIC to strangers.
- 786 and 1000 are not the codes. Several websites tell people to send their CNIC to 786 or call 1000. The official portal lists only 9771 for citizens and 9772 for pump owners.
- There is no income test on the portal. Pages claiming you must earn under Rs 50,000 or Rs 60,000 a month are not repeating anything the portal says.
- No app, no QR code, no payment. The official process is SMS only. Nobody should ask you for a fee to register.
- An old fact check is now out of date. A PakWheels article calling SMS registration to 9771 false was published on 2 April 2026, five months before this scheme was announced. It was about an earlier rumour, not this scheme.
The safest rule is simple. If a page asks you to send your CNIC anywhere other than 9771, or to click a link, do not do it.
When it starts in your area
The portal says registration is open across the country now, and stays open after tokens start. You can register at any time, and you become entitled to tokens once the facility is active where you live.
Dawn reported that the Prime Minister announced the scheme on 13 September 2026, with relief starting in Islamabad from the night of 14 to 15 September and in the rest of the country, including Azad Jammu and Kashmir and Gilgit Baltistan, from the night of 16 to 17 September. The portal does not publish these dates, so they are reported.
The portal says the scheme runs for the period announced in the latest official notice. It does not publish an end date. The official reason given on the portal is the rise in world petrol prices after supply disruption in the Middle East. If it does not work
- Check the SIM is registered on your own CNIC.
- Check the vehicle number has no spaces or dashes.
- Check the date is exactly eight digits in day, month, year order.
- Check your vehicle was registered on or after the cutoff date.
- Call 9771 if a token does not arrive. The helpline handles missing tokens.
