The dollar rate in Pakistan on Thursday 5 November 2026 was Rs 276.67 in the interbank market, the State Bank of Pakistan's (SBP) closing revaluation rate. In the open market, exchange companies bought dollars at Rs 277.33 and sold them at Rs 278.47.

The rupee gained about 3 paisa against the dollar, its ninth small gain in a row. The open market rates barely moved, by 1 to 2 paisa. The euro and the pound gave back a little of Wednesday's big rise at the SBP rate. We read the SBP's rate sheets for 4 and 5 November, its customer rate sheet, and the open market closing rates the SBP publishes for the Exchange Companies Association of Pakistan (ECAP), on the night of 5 November.

The interbank dollar rate was Rs 276.6701 on 5 November

The SBP's mark-to-market rate for the US dollar was Rs 276.6701 on 5 November 2026, down 3.39 paisa from Rs 276.7040 on 4 November. Its weighted average interbank rate was Rs 276.3552 to buy and Rs 276.8121 to sell.

Banks use the mark-to-market rate to value their books, and it is the base for the rates they quote customers. A move of 3 paisa is about Rs 34 on $1,000. The rupee has now gained on nine working days in a row, about 15 paisa in all since 23 October, as the October dollar rate history shows. That is a slow, steady gain, not a jump.

Omani rialRs 718.6837Rs 718.5957-8.80 paisa

Every major currency in the table was a little cheaper in rupees on Thursday. The pound fell 18 paisa at the SBP rate after rising Rs 1.77 on Wednesday. So 1,000 pounds cost about Rs 184 less than a day earlier, but still about Rs 1,588 more than on Tuesday 3 November. The riyal and the dirham moved by about 1 paisa, which makes almost no difference to a remittance.

Open market dollar rate: Rs 277.33 buying, Rs 278.47 selling

The open market closing rate on 5 November 2026 was Rs 277.33 when exchange companies buy dollars from you and Rs 278.47 when they sell dollars to you. The buying rate fell 2 paisa from Wednesday's Rs 277.35. The selling rate fell 1 paisa from Rs 278.48.

The selling rate now sits Rs 1.80 above the interbank rate, almost the same as Rs 1.78 a day earlier. That gap is the price of buying cash dollars over a counter. The one open market rate that rose was the pound, whose selling rate went up 25 paisa to Rs 376.17, even though the SBP pound rate fell.

Exchange companies can sell you only limited amounts of cash, and they need your papers. The rules are in the open market dollar limit.

Banks quoted customers Rs 73.63 for a riyal and Rs 75.25 for a dirham

The SBP also publishes a weighted average of the rates banks quote their customers. On 5 November banks bought Saudi riyals at about Rs 73.6271 and UAE dirhams at about Rs 75.2450. That is the side that matters to a family receiving money from the Gulf.

For 1,000 riyals, that comes to about Rs 73,627 at the average bank rate. For 1,000 dirhams it is about Rs 75,245. An exchange company counter bought riyals at Rs 73.88 the same day, so 1,000 riyals in cash at a counter fetched about Rs 253 more than the bank average. Your own bank's rate will differ, so compare it, as shown in checking a riyal or dirham rate against SBP customer rates.

Buying $500 costs Rs 139,235 at the open market rate

At the open market selling rate of Rs 278.47, $500 costs Rs 139,235 on 5 November. That is Rs 5 less than on Wednesday. If you sell $500 to an exchange company at Rs 277.33, you get Rs 138,665. The difference of Rs 570 is what a round trip costs you.

The SBP's one-year forward rate for the dollar was Rs 289.9568 on 5 November, down from Rs 290.0620 a day earlier. That is not a forecast. It mostly reflects the gap between Pakistani and US interest rates, as explained in SBP forward dollar rates.

One more SBP rate before the Iqbal Day holiday

The SBP told banks on 3 November that it will be closed on Monday 9 November 2026 for Allama Iqbal Day, a public holiday. So the next rate sheet is due on Friday 6 November, and after that on Tuesday 10 November. If you need to change money or send a fee abroad around then, Friday is the last working day before the break. The holiday itself is covered in the 9 November holiday.

You can read the official rates on the SBP website for free every working day. Follow these steps before you hand over cash:

  1. Open sbp.org.pk and find "USD/PKR Rates" on the home page for the day's dollar rate.
  2. For other currencies, open Financial Markets, then Financial Market Data, and download the Mark to Market Revaluation sheet.
  3. On the same page, open Weighted Average Customer Exchange Rates to see what banks quote on average.
  4. Open the Open Market Closing Exchange Rates sheet for the ECAP counter rates.
  5. Compare the rate you are offered with these sheets.
Steps to check the SBP and ECAP exchange rate before changing money in Pakistan

Use only an exchange company the SBP has licensed. How to check one, and what to do if a counter offers a rate far from the sheet, is in checking a dollar rate against the SBP and ECAP sheets. Wednesday's rate is in the 4 November dollar rate.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked 5 November 2026 at about 23:00 PKT. We read the SBP home page ("USD/PKR Rates As on 05-Nov-2026"), the mark-to-market sheet for 5 November 2026, the SBP weighted average customer rate sheet for 5 November, the ECAP open market sheet for 5 November 2026, and the SBP circular letter on the 9 November holiday. ECAP's figures are published by the SBP for information only. Wednesday's figures are from our 4 November page, which read the 4 November sheets. The rupee amounts and the changes are our own arithmetic. We did not check any individual bank's or exchange company's counter rate.
