CSS Psychological Assessment in Pakistan: Documents to Bring and the 4 Parts of the Day
CSS psychological assessment in Pakistan is one day: written tests, a group discussion and a 2 minute speech. See what FPSC says to bring and when to report.
Short answer: The CSS psychological assessment is one working day at FPSC. You sit written tests, join a group discussion, give a 2 minute speech and meet a psychologist. Report at 8:30 am with the filled CSS-2026 application form, attested copies, the Educational Profile, the Undertaking and two photographs.
Nobody can cram for this day, and FPSC says so itself. Its guidelines tell candidates that no preparation is required and to answer freely. What you can prepare is your paperwork, because FPSC says a candidate without the required documents is not allowed to sit the assessment.

The assessment takes one working day
FPSC says the psychological assessment runs over one day only. It tests your ability and personality, with special regard to your aptitude for the civil services. Written candidates are called according to a programme with roll numbers, and the viva voce follows after it.
The CE-2026 schedules show how the programme runs. Islamabad Phase I ran from 21 to 28 September at the FPSC headquarters in F-5/1. A revised Phase II schedule dated 7 October covers 14 to 17 October. Phase III covers 17 to 22 October. Lahore Phase I was revised on 5 October and ran from 2 to 10 October at the FPSC Provincial Office on Wahdat Road.
The reporting time on each schedule is 8:30 am. FPSC also states that a request to change the centre or postpone the date will not be entertained. Find your roll number on the schedule for your centre.

Bring these documents or you cannot sit
The schedule says to bring all originals for verification. You also hand in the signed CSS-2026 application form with attested copies of all supporting documents, the Educational Profile Proforma, the Undertaking and two recent passport size photographs. Missing papers mean no assessment.
- The original certificates: Matriculation, degrees, self-domicile, CNIC and the admission certificate.
- The duly filled and signed CSS-2026 application form, with attested photocopies of every supporting document.
- The filled Educational Profile Proforma and the Undertaking, both downloaded from FPSC.
- Two recent passport size photographs.
- A blue ballpoint pen, a lead pencil, a sharpener and an eraser.
- Proof of extra-curricular work, job experience or publications, if you have them.
The FPSC instruction sheet on its forms page is headed for an earlier CSS year and asks for two 2B pencils. The 2026 schedules ask for the items above, so follow your own schedule.
The day has four parts
FPSC describes four parts. First come written tests on your interests, opinions and preferences. Then a group discussion and a 2 minute extempore speech. Next, a group problem usually drawn from everyday work. The day ends with a short interview with a psychologist.

FPSC says the part you play in the group tasks shows whether you have the qualities needed in the higher civil services. In plain words, listen, speak clearly and let others finish.
Arrive early and plan for the medical test
FPSC advises candidates to report half an hour before the stated time for document checking. Late comers are not allowed to appear in the tests. The assessment, the viva voce and the medical examination are all at your own cost, and the Commission does not reimburse travel or stay.

The viva voce is treated like a compulsory subject. FPSC says failing to appear counts as failing the whole examination, except in a grave and unforeseen illness or serious accident that is verified. Your service preferences are due too, which we explain in the CSS final preference form guide.
