A wasted trip to a gas office usually means arriving during the Friday prayer break or on a Saturday. Sui Northern Gas Pipelines Limited (SNGPL) supplies gas in Punjab, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Islamabad. SNGPL distribution offices open at 8 am

SNGPL's timings sheet gives its distribution offices 8 am to 5 pm from Monday to Thursday, with a lunch and prayer break from 1 pm to 1:30 pm. On Friday they open 8 am to 12:30 pm, break until 2 pm, and reopen from 2 pm to 5:30 pm.

The sheet does not list Saturday or Sunday hours for any office. It also carries no date, so a seasonal change, such as shorter Ramazan hours, would not show on it. Call the office before a long trip.

Field staff work later than the counters

SNGPL's distribution field staff, the teams who fit meters, fix leaks and reconnect supply, work until 6:15 pm from Monday to Thursday and 6:30 pm on Friday. That is longer than the office counters, which close at 5 pm or 5:30 pm.

The practical point is simple. Paperwork has to be done in office hours. A leak or a field visit can happen later in the day. For a leak, do not wait for an office at all: SNGPL's homepage gives 1199 as its helpline.

SNGPL lists about 175 offices across 16 regions

SNGPL's "Locate SNGPL Customer Care Centers" page lists 16 regional offices, about 35 sub-regional offices, 39 customer service centres and 88 complaint centres, from Abbottabad and Mardan to Bahawalpur and Sialkot. Bills and connections usually go to a regional office or customer service centre.

Several SNGPL jobs need no office visit

A duplicate bill, a complaint, an application for a new domestic connection, a name transfer, a reconnection request and application tracking can all start on sngpl.com.pk. Go to an office mainly when SNGPL wants original papers or a signature.

Use this order so a visit, if you need one, is short:

1. Try the job online first on sngpl.com.pk or the ConnectOn app.
2. Find your 11 digit consumer number on an old bill.
3. Pick the regional office or customer service centre nearest the meter.
4. Go between 8 am and 12:30 pm, and avoid Friday's 12:30 pm to 2 pm break.
5. Get a complaint or application number before you leave.

Bills can be viewed by consumer number, as in SNGPL bill check online. A connection in someone else's name is moved through transferring a gas connection with SNGPL. And an application already filed can be followed in tracking an SNGPL gas connection application.
