How to Stop Spam SMS and Marketing Calls in Pakistan With 3627

To stop promotional SMS and marketing calls in Pakistan, send REG to 3627 from the number that gets them. That puts you on PTA's Do Not Call Register. To report a spam or fraud SMS from a person's number, forward it to 9000 with the sender's number and a space at the start.

Those two short codes do different jobs, and mixing them up is a common reason 3627 seems not to work. We read both on the Pakistan Telecommunication Authority's own pages on 27 September 2026, along with the rules behind them in the Gazette of Pakistan.

Send REG to 3627 to join the Do Not Call Register

The Do Not Call Register, or DNCR, is a list of numbers that do not want marketing messages. You join it with one SMS to 3627. After that, companies that send bulk promotional SMS and telemarketing calls through the networks must leave your number out.

1. Open your SMS app on the phone that gets the spam.
2. Type REG as the message.
3. Send it to 3627.
4. Wait for a confirmation SMS from your operator.

PTA's consumer page, titled "Want to Avoid Unwanted Ads?", gives the word as "reg". Jazz's own terms give a different wording: text "ON" or "SUB" to 3627, and Jazz says the service is free for its customers. The two official pages do not match. If REG gets no reply on your network, try the word your operator lists. We did not send the SMS ourselves on every network, so we cannot tell you which words each one accepts.

Registration is per SIM. If you have a Jazz number and a Zong number, send the SMS from each one.

What the Do Not Call Register blocks, and what it does not

The register stops marketing that travels through approved channels: bulk promotional SMS, telemarketing calls, and offers pushed by companies through short codes. It does not stop a scammer texting you from an ordinary SIM, because that person is not a registered telemarketer and ignores the list.

PTA's 2022 amendment to its spam regulations describes the DNCR as a central database, run by the operators, of people who ask not to receive unsolicited communication, "including Application to Person (A2P) promotional/telemarketing SMSs and Calls". A2P means a message sent by a system or business, not by a person typing on a phone.

So the prize draw from a random 03xx number, the fake "your parcel is held" text and the BISP and Ehsaas scam messages are not DNCR problems. They go to 9000.

Forward spam and fraud SMS to 9000

For unwanted SMS from individuals, PTA's instruction is to forward the message to 9000, adding the sender's number and a space at the beginning. PTA's older public notice says the report goes to the mobile operator "for necessary action", so the operator, not PTA, acts first on the sending number.

Here is the format, using a made-up number:

• Message received from 0300 1234567: "Congratulations, you won Rs 50,000, call now".
• What you send to 9000: 03001234567 Congratulations, you won Rs 50,000, call now

A 2011 PTA public notice said a report to 9000 cost 10 paisa including tax. That notice is 15 years old, and we could not find a current price on PTA's site, so check with your operator if the charge matters to you.

A fraud call is different from a fraud SMS. You cannot forward a call to 9000. For calls, note the number, date and time, and use the fraud number option in the PTA complaint app. How that app works, and what it asks for, is set out in the upgraded PTA complaint app.

What PTA's telemarketing rules require

PTA's Protection from Spam, Unsolicited, Fraudulent and Obnoxious Communication Regulations, 2009, were amended on 22 December 2022 by S.R.O. 2402(I)/2022, published in the Gazette on 31 December 2022. The amendment set firm rules for telemarketers and operators.

• 3627 is fixed in law. Operators must let subscribers register and unregister on the central DNCR through short code 3627.
• Telemarketers must be registered. Operators have to make sure every telemarketer is registered with them.
• Consent comes first. A telemarketer must ask for your consent by SMS, in English or Urdu, before sending marketing, and must keep a record of that consent.
• You can always opt out. Anyone who agreed to marketing must be given a way to unsubscribe.
• Business hours only. Operators must make sure marketing messages arrive within normal business hours.
• Approved senders only. Marketing must go out through approved short codes or alphanumeric IDs, the brand names you see as the sender.
• Robocalls are limited. Recorded calls are allowed only for public awareness required by PTA or the Government.

For harassing messages, which the rules call "obnoxious communication", the penalties climb. After a first warning, a repeat offender's outgoing service must be suspended within 24 hours of the complaint. It comes back only with PTA's approval and a written undertaking. Doing it again means a permanent block and a place on a blacklist the operators keep.

Block single numbers through your operator or your phone

If one number keeps bothering you, blocking it is faster than any report. Every Android phone and iPhone can block a number for free. Operators also sell network blocking, which works even if you switch phones.

Both paid services keep charging daily until you turn them off, and both delete your block list when you unsubscribe. On Jazz, dial *420# and pick option 4 to stop it. We could not read Zong's or Telenor's service pages as text on 27 September 2026, so we have not listed their codes.

Escalate to PTA if spam does not stop

A complaint goes to your operator first. PTA's own notice says to contact the regulator if the operator does not resolve it in time. Keep the operator's complaint number, screenshots of the messages and the date you sent REG to 3627.
