Upwork is now asking Pakistani freelancers, inside their accounts, to set up a "Local Wallet" and withdraw in rupees to JazzCash, Easypaisa and other wallets. The pop-up says each withdrawal costs US$1.99, about Rs 551 at the 5 November interbank rate, and that activation takes up to 3 days. Upwork's public help pages still call the method Direct to Wallet and do not yet print the US$1.99 figure.

We saw the pop-up in an Upwork account on 6 November 2026. Its headline reads "Withdraw your earnings in PKR, instantly". It shows five wallet logos and two buttons, "Set up Local Wallet" and "How it works". We then read Upwork's own help centre the same morning to see what it says about the same method. The full setup guide, with the name rule and the fixes for a failed transfer, is our page on Upwork to JazzCash and Easypaisa Direct to Wallet.

Upwork's pop-up names a flat US$1.99 fee for each wallet withdrawal

The new part is the price. Upwork's in-account pop-up says "Each withdrawal costs $1.99." Upwork's help page on Direct to Wallet fees still says only that the fee "varies by direct to wallet" and gives no dollar amount, so the pop-up is the first place we have seen a single figure.

Here is what the pop-up says, and what Upwork's public pages say about the same point.

Until Upwork publishes the figure on a help page, treat US$1.99 as what Upwork shows inside the account. The withdrawal screen shows the exact fee before you confirm, and that screen is the final word.

Upwork Local Wallet fee of US$1.99 per withdrawal, about Rs 551 at the 5 November 2026 interbank rate

US$1.99 is about Rs 551 at the SBP rate

At the State Bank of Pakistan's interbank rate of Rs 276.67 on 5 November 2026, US$1.99 comes to about Rs 551. The daily figure is on our dollar rate for 5 November page.

That rupee figure is only a guide. Upwork's help page says the rupees you receive are based on an exchange rate that already includes currency conversion costs. Upwork does not publish that rate or how far it sits from the interbank rate. So the rupee amount in your wallet will usually be a little below what the interbank rate suggests.

A flat fee hurts small withdrawals most. On US$20, US$1.99 is about 10 percent. On US$100 it is about 2 percent. On US$500 it is about 0.4 percent. If you are not in a hurry, one larger withdrawal costs less than five small ones.

A wallet costs more than a bank transfer but arrives faster

Upwork's own fee pages put Direct to Local Bank at US$0.99, about Rs 274, and a US Dollar Wire Transfer at US$50, about Rs 13,834. The wallet fee in the pop-up sits between the two. The wallet is the fastest of the three.

Payoneer has a second layer. After Upwork's transfer fee, Payoneer charges its own fees to convert and pay out. JazzCash's own remittance page says Payoneer charges a standard 3 percent on withdrawals. On US$500 that would be US$15, far more than US$1.99. Our Payoneer fees in Pakistan page and our Upwork fees in Pakistan page set out both sides in full.

Five Pakistani wallets are on Upwork's list

The pop-up shows five logos. Upwork's help page names the same five wallets for Pakistan: JazzCash, Easypaisa, NayaPay, SadaPay and Finja. Upwork says the options you see depend on your profile country, so your profile must say Pakistan.

None of the five wallet companies had an Upwork announcement on its own site that we could find on 6 November. JazzCash's remittance page talks only about Payoneer. So the wallet list here comes from Upwork, not from the wallets.

Your wallet also has its own limits, set by your account level. A low level wallet may refuse a large incoming amount. The steps to increase JazzCash transaction limits show how an upgrade works.

Set up Local Wallet in five steps

The setup is the same Direct to Wallet process Upwork's help page describes. Open the wallet in your own name first, add it on Upwork, then wait three days before the first withdrawal.

  1. Open and activate a JazzCash, Easypaisa, NayaPay, SadaPay or Finja account in your own name.
  2. On Upwork, press "Set up Local Wallet" in the pop-up, or go to Settings, then Withdrawals, then Add a method.
  3. Pick your wallet and enter its details exactly.
  4. Check that your first and last name match your wallet name and your Upwork verified name.
  5. Wait up to three days for the method to switch on, then withdraw and read the fee on screen before you confirm.

Upwork also needs your tax form on file before any withdrawal. For most Pakistani freelancers that is the W-8BEN, covered in our Upwork W-8BEN guide. If the money does not arrive within 24 hours, follow the checks in Upwork withdrawal not received.

Five steps to set up Upwork Local Wallet withdrawals to JazzCash or Easypaisa in Pakistan

One safety point. The real pop-up appears inside your Upwork account, and the fee comes out of your Upwork balance. Never send money to anyone on WhatsApp or by phone to "unlock" a wallet. Set it up only from your own Upwork settings.

Common questions

What is Upwork Local Wallet?

It is the name Upwork's in-account pop-up uses for withdrawing your earnings in rupees to a Pakistani mobile wallet. Upwork's help pages call the same method Direct to Wallet.

How much does an Upwork wallet withdrawal cost in Pakistan?

The pop-up says US$1.99 a withdrawal, about Rs 551 at the 5 November interbank rate. Upwork's help page gives no fixed amount yet, so check the fee on the withdrawal screen.

Which wallets can I use with Upwork in Pakistan?

Upwork lists JazzCash, Easypaisa, NayaPay, SadaPay and Finja. Your Upwork profile country must be Pakistan to see them.

How long does Upwork Local Wallet take to activate?

The pop-up says up to 3 days. Upwork's help page says a new withdrawal method becomes active in three days, for security.

Is a wallet cheaper than a bank withdrawal from Upwork?

No. Direct to Local Bank costs US$0.99 against US$1.99 in the pop-up. The wallet is faster, usually minutes instead of up to four business days.

Does Upwork use the interbank rate for wallet withdrawals?

Upwork says its rate includes conversion costs and it does not deduct a separate conversion fee. It does not publish the rate, so the rupees you get will usually be a little below the interbank figure.

What we checked and sources

We saw Upwork's Local Wallet pop-up in an Upwork account on 6 November 2026. The same morning we read Upwork's help pages on fees and timing of Direct to Wallet payments, how to use Direct to Wallet and how to get paid on Upwork, and JazzCash's international remittance page. None of the Upwork pages mentions "Local Wallet" or US$1.99. We did not make a test withdrawal, so we have not confirmed the fee in a real transfer or the exchange rate Upwork applies.
