Virtual University of Pakistan (VU) will shut all of its portals, websites and online services from 11:30 pm on Friday 6 November 2026 until 11:59 pm on Sunday 8 November 2026 for scheduled maintenance. That covers the student LMS, the admission and fee pages and every internal system. VU posted the notice on its own website on 6 November. Finish any upload, quiz or fee task before 11:30 pm tonight.

The window is about 48 hours and 30 minutes long. It falls on a weekend, which many VU students use for assignments because they work during the week. It also lands in the fourth week of Fall 2026 classes, which began on 12 October, when coursework is well under way. So this one matters more than it looks.

VU portals close from 11:30 pm on 6 November

VU says every public and internal portal, website and online service will be unavailable from 11:30 pm on Friday 6 November until 11:59 pm on Sunday 8 November 2026. Services return once the maintenance is complete, the notice says.

We read the notice on the VU news page on the afternoon of 6 November. It is titled "Scheduled System Maintenance Notice". It gives three facts that matter to students:

  • Start: Friday 6 November 2026, 11:30 pm.
  • End: Sunday 8 November 2026, 11:59 pm.
  • Scope: all public-facing and internal portals, websites and online services.

The notice does not name individual systems. "All" is the word it uses, so treat the LMS, the student portal, the fee voucher page, the admission system and the email-based services as closed. VU does not say whether it will move any deadline. It only thanks students for their patience.

What stops working during the VU shutdown

Every VU online service is covered, so you cannot log in to the LMS, submit work, check grades or print a fee voucher until Sunday night. Plan on nothing working for the full window, even if a page loads for a moment.

TaskDuring the shutdownWhat to do
Assignment or GDB upload on the LMSNot possibleUpload before 11:30 pm on 6 November
Online quizNot possibleAttempt any open quiz tonight
Print a fee voucherNot possibleDownload and save the PDF tonight
Grade book and resultsNot possibleCheck again after Sunday night
Lecture videos on the LMSNot possibleDownload handouts you need tonight
New admission formNot possibleApply after the window ends

Lecture videos that VU also posts on its public video channels are not part of its own servers, so those may still play. The handouts, though, sit on the LMS. If you study from PDFs, save them now.

Do these five things before 11:30 pm tonight

The safest plan is to finish every VU task that has a due date between Friday night and Monday morning before 11:30 pm on 6 November. Here is the order we would follow:

  1. Open the LMS and check the calendar of each course for anything due on 7, 8 or 9 November.
  2. Submit every assignment, graded discussion (GDB) and quiz that is already open.
  3. Download the handouts and slides for the lectures you plan to study this weekend.
  4. Download your fee voucher as a PDF if you still have an instalment to pay.
  5. Take a screenshot of each submission page as proof of the time you submitted.

The screenshot step sounds fussy. It is not. If a deadline clashes with the shutdown, a timed screenshot is the only evidence you have when you ask a course teacher for relief.

Deadlines that fall inside the window

VU's notice does not say whether any assignment or quiz deadline will be pushed back. If one of yours falls between 11:30 pm on Friday and 11:59 pm on Sunday, submit early, and contact the course instructor through the LMS once it is back.

The wider calendar is not affected by a weekend outage. The Fall 2026 mid-term exams start on Monday 7 December 2026, according to VU's academic calendar, and the final term exams start on Monday 25 January 2027. A two-day closure a month before mid-terms is unlikely to change those dates, but check the LMS announcements on Monday.

Fee payments made at a bank branch are a separate matter. A bank can accept a voucher you already printed, because the voucher carries its own amount and due date. The first instalment of the Fall 2026 fee was due on 5 November, so anyone who missed it should print the voucher tonight rather than wait.

When VU services should come back

VU says the maintenance ends at 11:59 pm on Sunday 8 November 2026 and that services will be restored once the work is complete. Try the LMS on Monday morning, 9 November, before assuming anything is wrong with your account.

Large system work sometimes runs late. If the LMS still will not open on Monday, clear your browser cache, try another browser and then try your phone on mobile data. Those three steps fix most login problems after a maintenance window. If none works, VU's head office number is 051 111 880 880, and its admissions helpline is 1288.

One warning. Outages bring out fake "VU login" links on WhatsApp and Facebook groups. VU's real address is vu.edu.pk. Do not type your student ID and password into any other site, whatever the message says about grades or fee fines.

Common questions

Is the VU LMS down on 7 November 2026?

Yes. VU says all portals and online services are unavailable from 11:30 pm on 6 November to 11:59 pm on 8 November 2026, which covers the whole of Saturday 7 November.

When will the VU LMS work again?

VU gives the end time as 11:59 pm on Sunday 8 November 2026. Expect normal access from Monday 9 November.

Will VU extend assignment deadlines because of the maintenance?

The notice does not say. Submit early, keep a screenshot, and ask your course instructor through the LMS once it is back if a deadline was missed.

Can I pay my VU fee during the shutdown?

You cannot print a voucher during the window. A voucher you already printed or saved can still be paid at a bank, as the voucher itself carries the amount and due date.

Does the maintenance change the VU mid-term exam date?

No change has been announced. VU's academic calendar still shows Fall 2026 mid-terms from Monday 7 December 2026.

Is there a VU helpline during the outage?

VU lists its head office number as 051 111 880 880 and 1288 for admission queries. Phone lines are not part of the web maintenance, but VU has not said whether they will be staffed at the weekend.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked on 6 November 2026, about 3:30 pm PKT. The maintenance dates and scope are from the "Scheduled System Maintenance Notice" on the Virtual University of Pakistan website, dated 6 November 2026. The mid-term and final term dates are from VU's Fall 2026 academic calendar. The phone numbers are from the VU website footer. We did not call them.
