YouTube Premium Student Discount in Pakistan: SheerID Verification, 4-Year Limit and Spotify's Rs 199 Option
Get YouTube Premium Student in Pakistan: apply in the app, verify with SheerID within 48 hours, keep it 4 years. Compare it with Spotify Student at Rs 199.
YouTube Premium Student is available in Pakistan to students at a higher education institution that SheerID recognises. Start it from Purchases and memberships in the YouTube app, verify through the SheerID form, and expect a reply within 48 hours if your documents need a manual check. You can keep the discount for up to 4 years, re-verifying every year.
For a university student paying from a monthly allowance, the student plan is the cheapest way to get full Premium, with background play, downloads and no ads. The catch is the verification, which fails for students whose college is not on SheerID's list. We read YouTube's and Spotify's student pages on 1 November 2026, and below is how to apply, why verification fails, what happens after graduation, and how YouTube's offer compares with Spotify's.
Pakistan is on YouTube's student country list
YouTube lists Pakistan among the countries where Premium and Music Premium student memberships are sold. You must be enrolled at a higher education institution in that country, the institution must be approved by SheerID, and SheerID must verify you as a student.
SheerID is the outside company YouTube uses to check student status. It keeps a list of approved colleges and universities. If your institution is on it, verification can be instant. If not, you are asked for documents, and if your school is missing altogether you cannot get the discount for now.
School students do not qualify. The rule is higher education, so a university, a degree college or a similar institution, not a matric or intermediate school.
Apply from the YouTube app in 5 steps
In the YouTube app, tap your profile picture, open Purchases and memberships, tap Learn More on Premium, choose Or save money with a family or student plan, then pick the student option and complete SheerID's form. Cancel any existing paid Premium first.
- Cancel your current paid YouTube membership if you have one. YouTube requires this before you switch to student.
- Open the YouTube app, tap your profile picture, then Purchases and memberships.
- Tap Learn More on Premium, then Or save money with a family or student plan.
- Choose the student plan and search for your institution on the SheerID form.
- Enter your details, upload documents if asked, and finish payment once you are verified.
YouTube also says any Google Workspace account can be used for a student membership, unlike the family plan. So a university email account that runs on Google is fine here.
SheerID replies within 48 hours outside the US
When SheerID cannot confirm you straight away, it asks for more documents and checks them by hand. YouTube says the email arrives within 20 minutes in the US and within 48 hours elsewhere, which covers Pakistan. For help, YouTube points students to SheerID at customerservice@sheerid.com.
Upload something that shows your name, your institution and the current term, such as a fee receipt for this semester or an enrolment letter. A student card with no date on it may not be enough on its own. Make sure the name matches the one you typed on the form.
| Problem | What it usually means | What to do |
|---|---|---|
| School not in the SheerID list | Institution not approved | Not eligible for now |
| Asked for more documents | Instant check failed | Upload a dated enrolment proof |
| No email after 48 hours | Review still pending | Write to SheerID customer service |
| Cannot switch to student | Another paid membership active | Cancel it first |
The discount lasts up to 4 years, renewed every year
YouTube lets you stay on a student membership for up to 4 consecutive years and asks you to re-verify every year. Near the end of each membership year you get an email or app message, and within 30 days of expiry you can renew at youtube.com/purchases.
Miss the renewal, or graduate, and YouTube moves you automatically to a full-priced membership. It does not stop on its own. If you no longer want Premium at the full price, cancel before the switch. You keep the benefits until the end of the billing month after cancelling.
YouTube Student and Spotify Student compared
Both services use SheerID, both cap the discount at 4 years, and both ask you to re-verify every 12 months. Spotify's Pakistan page lists Premium Student at Rs 199 a month after a free month for new users, and YouTube's was PKR 329 when we read it.
| Detail | YouTube Premium Student | Spotify Premium Student |
|---|---|---|
| Monthly price in Pakistan | PKR 329 (read 28 September 2026) | Rs 199 (read 1 November 2026) |
| Verification | SheerID | SheerID |
| Maximum period | 4 years | 4 years |
| Re-verify | Every year | Every 12 months |
| One-time option | Not listed | Rs 219 for 1 month, no renewal |
Spotify adds two rules worth knowing. Its student plan cannot be paid through mobile billing or another company such as a phone network, and its page says SheerID's email can take several days. The full plan list is in the Spotify Premium price in Pakistan, and the other YouTube tiers are in the YouTube Premium price in Pakistan.
Which one? If you mainly listen to music, Spotify Student at Rs 199 is the cheaper pick. If you watch long lectures and want them downloaded for the bus, YouTube's plan includes YouTube Music too. Students hunting for more free tools will find GitHub Copilot free for students also asks for proof of student status.

How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
Last checked 1 November 2026. We read YouTube's help pages Get a student discount for YouTube Premium (eligibility, country list including Pakistan, SheerID, 48-hour review, 4 years, yearly re-verification) and Manage your student membership (30-day renewal window, automatic move to full price), the sign-up errors page (Workspace accounts allowed for student), and Spotify's Pakistan Premium page and student help page on 1 November 2026. The PKR 329 YouTube price comes from our read of YouTube's Pakistan page on 28 September 2026; our 1 November check could not display rupee prices. YouTube does not list which Pakistani universities SheerID approves, so we could not name them.
