AIOU Admission Autumn 2026: Apply Online by 5 October, Fees and Programmes

Allama Iqbal Open University (AIOU) is taking autumn 2026 admissions until 5 October 2026, and that date already includes a late fee. You apply on the online admission system at fmbp.aiou.edu.pk. First semester fees start at Rs 4,100 for Matric and run to Rs 33,050 for BS Computer Science.

We read AIOU's admission pages, its autumn 2026 eligibility and fee list, and its academic calendar on 29 September 2026. Every programme slide on the AIOU homepage gives the same closing line: "Last date 05-10-2026 (with late fee)". The calendar's normal admission window was 1 July to 5 September, so anyone applying now is inside the late window.

AIOU is Pakistan's open university, set up in 1974 for people who cannot leave home or a job to study. Most of its programmes run as ODL, short for open and distance learning: you study from books and online material and sit exams at a centre near you.

AIOU autumn 2026 admission closes on 5 October

The last date for AIOU autumn 2026 admission is Monday 5 October 2026, with a late fee. It covers Matric, Intermediate, Associate Degree, BS, BEd, postgraduate diplomas and certificate courses. Classes and study material follow after admission is confirmed.

The calendar dates are AIOU's standard pattern, marked "proposed". The 5 October date is the one printed on the current admission slides, so treat it as the hard stop. We could not find the late fee amount on any AIOU page we read, so check the figure on your fee challan before you pay.

Programmes open for autumn 2026 admission at AIOU

AIOU is admitting students from Matric to BEd this autumn. The list covers Matric and Intermediate, Associate Degrees, BS programmes in several routes, BBA, BEd, postgraduate diplomas and short certificate courses, mostly by distance learning.

• Matric (SSC): General, Science, Dars-e-Nizami and Open Courses.
• Intermediate (HSSC): FA General, I.Com, FSc Pre-Medical and Pre-Engineering, Dars-e-Nizami and Open Courses.
• Associate Degrees: Arts (BA General), Commerce (BCom), and subject degrees such as English, Urdu, Mass Communication, Business Administration, Psychology and Education.
• BS by distance learning: HSSC based (4 years), BA/BSc based (2.5 years) and AD based (2 years), in subjects like English, Economics, Islamic Studies, Mass Communication, Accounting and Finance, and Computer Science.
• BS face to face: sciences such as Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics, Botany, Biochemistry and Computer Sciences, offered at selected regional campuses.
• BBA, BEd, postgraduate diplomas and certificate courses, including Arabic and special education certificates.

The face to face BS science slides say they run in cities such as Islamabad, Lahore, Karachi, Multan, Peshawar, Quetta, Faisalabad and Muzaffarabad, but not every subject runs everywhere. If you are waiting for your second year result, the four year face to face BS slide says you can still apply. Your HSSC result must then meet the programme's marks rule.

MS, MPhil and PhD admissions for autumn 2026 are a separate track. AIOU already published their final merit lists in August 2026.

AIOU first semester fees for autumn 2026

AIOU's autumn 2026 list puts the first semester fee at Rs 4,100 to Rs 4,200 for Matric and Rs 4,560 to Rs 4,670 for Intermediate. Most Associate Degrees and BS programmes cost Rs 17,650 to Rs 20,590, and BS Computer Science costs Rs 33,050.

These are first semester fees only. Later semesters are charged separately. AIOU's own fee file ends with a warning that its figures are "extracted from prospectuses" and that "errors and omissions are expected", so the prospectus for your programme is the final word.

How to apply for AIOU admission online

New students apply on AIOU's online admission system, called OAS. You create an account with your mobile number and email, fill in your profile and chosen programme, download the fee challan, pay it, and then track your application status.

1. Read your programme's page in the AIOU autumn 2026 prospectus first. The OAS page asks you to do this before applying.
2. Open fmbp.aiou.edu.pk and create an account. Use your own mobile number, and not one you moved to another network.
3. Activate the account with the code or link sent to you. The portal says an account that does not activate will turn on by itself within 12 to 24 hours.
4. Log in, complete your profile, pick the programme, and upload your documents.
5. Download the fee challan, pay it before 5 October 2026, and keep the paid copy.
6. Check your status on the portal every day after paying, and clear any objection straight away.

AIOU says it confirms admission by SMS and email. That is why the mobile number and email on your form matter so much. The Urdu note on the portal says 12 hours for self activation and the English note says 24 hours, so allow a full day and do not leave this to 5 October.

The OAS portal is for first semester students only. Continuing students register their courses on enrollment.aiou.edu.pk instead.

Mistakes that delay an AIOU admission

Most delays come from three things: a ported mobile number, an unpaid or late challan, and an objection left open on the portal. Each one can push your admission past the 5 October cut off.

• Using a network changed number. The portal warns against this directly, because activation codes may not arrive.
• Ignoring an objection. AIOU's instructions say to check your portal daily and fix any objection quickly so the admission completes in the same semester.
• Paying for the wrong programme. Check the programme code on the challan against the eligibility list before you pay.
• Trusting an agent. You do not need anyone to apply for you. The whole process runs on the AIOU portal, and the challan is issued in your own name.

AIOU is a federal public sector university. If you later need your degree checked for a job or visa, HEC degree attestation works the same way for AIOU graduates. And if you are weighing a campus university instead, NUML admission is another federal option with its own dates.
