Children's Hospital Lahore: OPD Timings, 24 Hour Emergency and Phone Numbers
Children's Hospital Lahore OPD runs 8am to 4pm, Friday to 1pm, and the 24 hour emergency gives medicines free. See clinics, emergency steps and phone numbers.

Short answer: The Children's Hospital Lahore runs its OPD 8am to 4pm, Monday to Saturday, and 8am to 1pm on Friday, under Punjab's order for all teaching hospitals. Its emergency is open 24 hours for children referred from anywhere in Pakistan, and emergency medicines are free. The main line is 042-99230901 to 23, and the OPD extension is 2021.
The full name is The Children's Hospital and the University of Child Health Sciences, Lahore. It is Punjab's main referral hospital for sick children. We read its website and the Punjab health department's timing order on 10 October 2026.
The OPD runs 8am to 4pm, and 1pm on Friday
Punjab's Specialized Healthcare and Medical Education Department fixed OPD hours for all its teaching and specialised hospitals in notification No. SO(ME)7-6/2021, dated 23 December 2021. OPDs open 8am to 4pm from Monday to Saturday and 8am to 1pm on Friday.
The Children's Hospital and Institute of Child Health is on that department's list of hospitals, so the order covers it. Sunday has no OPD. Come early on Friday, because the clinics close three hours sooner.
| Service | Hours |
|---|---|
| OPD, Monday to Thursday and Saturday | 8:00am to 4:00pm |
| OPD, Friday | 8:00am to 1:00pm |
| OPD, Sunday | Closed |
| Accident and Emergency | 24 hours |
| Neonatal emergency | 24 hours |

The emergency gives medicines free, including anti-rabies vaccine
The hospital says all medicines in its emergency are given free. That includes antibiotics, drips, antidotes for poisoning, anti-snake venom, anti-rabies vaccine, immunoglobulin, anti-tetanus serum and anti-diphtheria serum. Bedside X-ray and ultrasound are available around the clock.
That list matters. Rabies vaccine and snake antivenom are hard to find in many district hospitals. If a child is bitten by a dog in or near Lahore, this emergency is a sensible first stop. Full first aid for bites is in what to do after a dog bite.
Here is how the emergency works, step by step, as the hospital describes it:
- A senior nurse meets you at the emergency gate and checks how sick the child is. This is called triage.
- You register at the desk in front of the gate. Staff enter the parent's CNIC and mobile number.
- The casualty medical officer (CMO) examines the child in the CMO room.
- A very sick child goes straight to the medical, surgical or newborn emergency.
- After about 24 hours in the step-down area, the child is sent home, admitted to a ward, or moved to an ICU.

Diarrhoea and newborns have their own rooms
The emergency is split by problem. Room 23 is the main medical emergency, room 27 takes surgical cases, room 21 is for oral rehydration and room 20 treats severe dehydration with drips. All newborns, sick or healthy, go to the separate neonatal emergency.
In room 21, staff give ORS from the hospital and show mothers how to give it by spoon. That is the same home treatment a child with mild diarrhoea needs. A child who is breathing fast or pulling in the chest needs the medical emergency, and the signs are in checking a child for pneumonia.
Children referred from district hospitals through the Punjab Paediatric Referral System are handled by a referral directorate inside the emergency. Bring the referral slip.
The OPD covers nearly 30 child specialties
The outpatient department lists clinics for almost every part of a child's health. On the medicine side there are heart, skin, hormones, stomach, genetics, blood and cancer, kidneys, brain and nerves, lungs and psychiatry. On the surgery side there are heart surgery, dental, ENT, brain surgery, eye, bones, plastic surgery and urology.
A few services are easy to miss:
- Filter or fever clinic: a separate clinic the hospital lists for fever cases. Ask at reception whether your child should go there first.
- Developmental and behavioural paediatrics: for speech delay, slow development and behaviour concerns.
- Preventive paediatrics: listed with the medicine clinics. Ask there about missed vaccines.
- Audiology: hearing tests for children.
- Social welfare department: for families who cannot afford tests or medicines.
The hospital also runs a bone marrow transplant unit and a children's blood and cancer department. Families of children with thalassemia can read about free thalassemia treatment in each province.
Call 042-99230901 and ask for extension 2021
The hospital exchange is 042-99230901 to 23. The Additional Medical Superintendent for the OPD is on extension 2021, and the Deputy Medical Superintendent for administration is on extension 2010. The Medical Director's direct line is 042-99230246.
Bring the parent's CNIC, the child's B-Form if you have one, the vaccination card and any old reports. The hospital's website also has an online complaint form. If that does not work, the provincial route is in complaining against a hospital or doctor in Punjab.
Keep the child's vaccination card with you on every visit. Doctors here ask for it, and it saves a repeat dose.
