10 Movies to Watch With Your Family in Pakistan, and Where to Stream Them

These are 10 family movies for Pakistani homes, chosen by age rating rather than by taste. Six are on Netflix in Pakistan right now. The four Pakistani films are the hard part: we could not find any of them on a licensed streaming service here.

We have not reviewed these films ourselves, so this list makes no claims about which one is the best. Every film had to pass four checks instead. It needs a children's or family rating from the BBFC (the British film ratings board) or a low age from an independent parents' guide. It must have no sexual content, only mild violence and mild language. And it has to suit a room with grandparents, parents and children in it.

On 25 September 2026 we opened each film's Netflix page from a Pakistani connection, and searched Prime Video Pakistan and a streaming guide's Pakistan catalogue.

Six international picks stream on Netflix in Pakistan

Six of the ten films opened as live title pages on Netflix Pakistan on 25 September 2026. All six are animated, and all six carry a Netflix age label of 10+ or younger. Each also has a U or PG from the BBFC, or an age of 8 or under from an independent parents' guide.

My Neighbor Totoro (1988)

Two young sisters move to the countryside while their mother is in hospital. They make friends with gentle forest spirits. Netflix Pakistan labels it "All", and the BBFC gives it U. An independent parents' guide rates it 5+.

Content notes: the mother's illness causes some worry. The BBFC also records a brief bath scene with non-sexual nudity. It suits very young children.

Ponyo (2008)

A goldfish princess wants to become human after she makes friends with a five-year-old boy. The BBFC rates it U for very mild threat, and Netflix Pakistan shows 7+. An independent parents' guide rates it 5+.

Content notes: a storm and a tsunami threaten a village, and there is a kiss on the cheek between the two children. One scene shows a parent drinking what looks like beer.

Kiki's Delivery Service (1989)

A 13-year-old girl leaves home for a year to live on her own in a new town. She starts a delivery business on her broom. It is BBFC U and Netflix 7+. An independent parents' guide rates it 5+.

Content notes: Kiki is a young witch, so magic is central to the story. A boy keeps trying to befriend her, and there is mild name-calling.

Over the Moon (2020)

A girl in China builds a rocket to prove a moon goddess from an old legend is real. Netflix Pakistan shows 7+, and an independent parents' guide rates it 6+. We found no BBFC page for it.

Content notes: the story deals with a parent's death, and it is a musical. The moon goddess comes from Chinese mythology.

Klaus (2019)

A spoiled young postman is sent to a cold, feuding island town. There he forms an unlikely friendship with a quiet toymaker. The BBFC rates it PG for mild threat and violence. Netflix Pakistan shows 10+, and an independent parents' guide rates it 6+.

Content notes: it is a Santa Claus origin story, so it is built around Christmas. There is slapstick fighting between two feuding families, some insults, and one kiss.

The Sea Beast (2022)

An orphan girl stows away on a ship that hunts sea monsters. She finds out the monsters are not what she was told. The BBFC rates it PG for violence, threat and language. Netflix Pakistan shows 7+, and an independent parents' guide rates it 8+.

Content notes: this is the most intense of the six, with large monster attacks. The BBFC lists mild swearing, and sailors drink from flasks.

Four Pakistani films are hard to stream legally

Four Pakistani films made our list. Three are animated adventures in Urdu with local settings and values, and one is for older children. On 25 September 2026 we could not find any of them on a licensed streaming service in Pakistan.

The Donkey King has a Netflix page in other countries, but the same page returned "not found" from Pakistan. A Prime Video Pakistan search found none of the four. A streaming guide's Pakistan catalogue listed none of them either. On YouTube, the official channels of the films' makers and distributors had trailers and songs, but no full film. Full-length copies did exist on YouTube, but only on unrelated channels, so they are not licensed copies.

Tamasha, Jazz's streaming app, could not be searched from a web browser when we tried. So we cannot confirm or rule it out. Cinema releases are the other option for Pakistani films, and the new Pakistani movies releasing October to December 2026 include the next round.

The Donkey King (2018)

Mangu, a donkey who works as a washerman and dreams of fame, is talked into running for king against a spoiled lion prince. Talisman Animation Studios made it, and it opened in Pakistani cinemas on 13 October 2018. It is widely described as Pakistan's highest-grossing animated film, but we could not find official box office figures to confirm that.

No BBFC or Pakistani certificate appeared in our search. A streaming guide lists its US rating as G, which is the lowest US rating. We did not read that on the US ratings board's own site. Content notes: the plot is an election campaign, with jokes about propaganda and press talks that adults will catch before children do.

Allahyar and the Legend of Markhor (2018)

A young boy tries to protect a markhor, Pakistan's national animal, from illegal hunters. 3rd World Studios made it. Its message is about protecting wildlife, and its animal characters include a snow leopard and a chukar partridge, both endangered species in the story.

A streaming guide lists its US rating as PG, which we did not read on the ratings board's own site. The sequel, Allahyar and the 100 Flowers of God (2023), is billed as the first stereoscopic 3D animated feature made in Pakistan, but we found no rating for it.

3 Bahadur (2015)

Three 11-year-old friends in a fictional town called Roshan Basti gain special powers. They use them to stand up to the evil that has taken hold of their town. Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy directed it, and it was Pakistan's first full-length animated film.

We found no BBFC rating for it, and no independent parents' guide rating either. It is here because it was made for children. It is a superhero adventure, so expect action scenes between the heroes and the villains.

The Glassworker (2024)

A glassmaker's son and a colonel's daughter grow up as friends while war comes closer to their town. It is Pakistan's first hand-drawn animated film. The BBFC rates it 12A, which means under-12s should watch with an adult.

Content notes: the BBFC lists war violence, bombing, dead bodies and one bloody injury. It is the most serious film here. Keep it for older children.

Several popular choices failed our checks

Two Pakistani favourites carry a UK rating of 12A or higher, and several big Western titles are simply not available here. Netflix's Pakistan labels were also sometimes stricter than the UK ratings.

• Parwaaz Hai Junoon (2018): the BBFC rated it 12A in 2018 and 15 for a 2025 re-release, citing strong violence.
• Load Wedding (2018): BBFC 12A, with suicide references listed in its content advice.
• The Mitchells vs. the Machines (2021): the Netflix Pakistan page showed 18+ when we opened it. The BBFC rates it PG, so the two labels do not match.
• Wallace and Gromit: Vengeance Most Fowl (2024): Netflix Pakistan shows 13+.
• Paddington 2, Coco, Zootopia and Toy Story 4: a streaming guide's Pakistan catalogue listed no service for any of them.

Any of these may still suit your family. They simply did not meet our two rules.

Five checks pick a safe family film

Check the age label first, then read the content advice, then confirm the stream is legal. These five steps work for any film, not only the ten here.

1. Read the age label on the title page. Netflix shows it next to the year, for example 7+ or 13+.
2. Look the film up on bbfc.co.uk. Each entry lists short content advice.
3. Read an independent parents' guide for the age it suggests and the scenes it flags.
4. Set a Netflix profile to Kids, or set a maturity limit, so children cannot open older titles by themselves.
5. Use a licensed service. Full films posted by unknown YouTube channels are usually unlicensed copies.

A family film is easier to share on a TV than on a phone, and an Android TV box can put Netflix on an older set. A long film on mobile data uses a lot of it, so a monthly Jazz internet package or home Wi-Fi is worth sorting out first. Cultural fit depends on each family

None of the ten films has sexual content, and all ten were made for children or families. Some do include things that Pakistani families treat differently, such as magic, Christmas, other religions' myths, or a romance between children. We list these neutrally so you can decide.

The four Pakistani films are in Urdu, so grandparents who do not follow English subtitles will find them easier. The six Netflix films are from Japan and the US. Check the audio and subtitle menu on each Netflix film before you press play, because the choice of languages differs from film to film.

We opened each Netflix title page from a Pakistani connection, for example My Neighbor Totoro on Netflix Pakistan, and noted the age label and whether the page loaded. UK ratings and content advice come from the BBFC. The parents' guide ages come from an independent guide, and the US ratings for The Donkey King and Allahyar come from a streaming guide's listing, so treat both as a second opinion rather than an official rating. We found no official Pakistani censor certificate online for any of the four Pakistani films.
