If you are replacing your phone anyway, buy 5G capable. If your current phone works and you live outside the covered cities, wait. The upgrade on its own does not justify the money for most people today.

How much faster is 5G than 4G in practice?
Noticeably faster on large transfers, barely different on everyday use. Browsing, WhatsApp and moderate quality video already work fine on a decent 4G connection, and 5G does not make a web page load in a way you would feel.
Where it genuinely changes things is anything big and impatient.
- Large downloads, where minutes become seconds.

- Video calls that currently stutter on a congested cell.
- High resolution streaming without buffering on a shared connection.
If none of those describe your week, the practical gain is small. And at the edge of coverage, 5G can actually be slower than solid 4G while draining more battery, which is not the trade anyone expects.
What does 5G cost you in Pakistan?

Who should buy a 5G phone today?
People replacing a phone anyway, people living and working inside covered areas, and people who use their phone as a household internet connection. For those three groups it is straightforwardly a good idea.
- Your phone is dying. Buy 5G capable. The price difference on a locally assembled handset is small and it future-proofs the purchase.
- You live in Islamabad, Rawalpindi, Lahore or Karachi. Coverage is real in parts of these cities and you will use it.
- Your phone is your broadband. Hotspot performance is where 5G earns its keep.
- You upgrade every couple of years regardless. Then the question answers itself.
Who should wait?
Anyone whose current phone works and who lives outside the covered cities. You would be paying today for a capability you cannot use, while handset prices fall and coverage expands. Waiting six months costs you very little and saves you money.
Be honest about the second-order argument too. "It will last longer" only holds if the phone survives long enough for coverage to arrive, and budget handsets bought purely for a 5G badge often pair a fast modem with a slow processor. That phone ages badly for reasons unrelated to the network.
