OpenAI Dots in Pakistan: What the New AI Agent Does and How to Get It

Dots are OpenAI's new always-on AI agents in ChatGPT, launched on 29 September 2026. A dot works for you around the clock on its own cloud computer, connects to your apps and asks before it does anything important. In Pakistan you can use one if you are on ChatGPT Pro or Business Premium. It is not available on the Free, Go or Plus plans.

We read OpenAI's announcement and its two help pages on dots on 30 September 2026. This guide explains what a dot is, who can get one, how to set it up from Pakistan and what it costs.

An "agent" is an AI that does not only answer questions. It carries out tasks for you, step by step, and keeps working when you are not typing. OpenAI calls its agents "dots".

A dot is an AI agent that keeps working when you are away

OpenAI describes dots as "always-on agents built to handle everything". Each dot runs on GPT-6 Astra, OpenAI's most capable model, and has its own cloud computer and its own web browser. That means it can open websites, use apps and work on files without touching your laptop.

According to OpenAI, a dot can:

• Connect to more than 4,000 apps through ChatGPT's plugins.
• Work on several projects at once and keep going between conversations.
• Talk to you in ChatGPT on desktop, web and mobile, and in Slack and Microsoft Teams. OpenAI says texting is coming soon.
• Take a voice call when you want to talk something through.
• Learn your preferences over time from your feedback.

OpenAI gives one example from an early tester: his dot noticed that he had forgotten to invoice a client, prepared the invoice and sent it after he approved it.

Who can use dots in Pakistan

OpenAI's help page says dots are rolling out to ChatGPT Pro users "in markets excluding the European Economic Area, Switzerland, and the UK". Pakistan is not on that excluded list, and Pakistan is on OpenAI's list of countries where ChatGPT is supported. So a Pro subscriber in Pakistan is eligible.

Two more limits apply. Dots are not available to anyone under 18. And the rollout is gradual: OpenAI says access "may take several days to reach your account", so a new Pro subscriber may not see it on day one.

How to set up a dot from Pakistan

You need a computer for the first step. OpenAI says you cannot create a dot on your phone, and dots do not work in a mobile browser.

1. Get ChatGPT Pro. When we checked OpenAI's help pages on 29 September, Pro had two tiers, US$100 and US$200 a month, and new sign-ups to the US$200 tier were paused from 10 September. Pay with a Visa or Mastercard that allows international payments. See our guide to dollar cards in Pakistan if your card is refused.
2. Open ChatGPT on a computer. Use the ChatGPT desktop app, which also runs on Windows, or ChatGPT in a desktop browser.
3. Create your dot. Follow the setup prompts. You can give it a name, and its handle becomes @yourname-agentname. You can also pick a character or a pet for it.
4. Connect your apps. Choose which apps it may use in ChatGPT's Plugins tab. Connect only what you need.
5. Set your rules. Custom Rules let you allow an action, require your approval, or block it. For example, you can tell it never to send emails.
6. Use it on your phone. Once it is set up, you can message it in the ChatGPT mobile app.

What a dot costs, and the tax on paying from Pakistan

Your first dot is included in Pro and Business Premium at no extra cost, OpenAI says. For the first month after launch, using your dot does not count toward your plan's allowance. OpenAI says it will share usage terms for each plan after that period.

Chatting with your dot does not use up your ChatGPT limits. But when you ask it to start work in Codex or ChatGPT Work, that work counts toward your usage limits as normal. OpenAI also says that later you will be able to add more dots and pay to make each one faster or do more work each month. It has not published prices for that yet.

OpenAI lists prices in US dollars. Your bank converts them to rupees at its own rate. Banks in Pakistan may also deduct advance tax on foreign card payments under section 236Y: 0.5% if you are on the Active Taxpayers List and 1% if you are not, as we explained in our guide to paying for Steam games from Pakistan. You can check your filer status before you pay.

Safety: what a dot can and cannot do on its own

Because a dot can act for you, its limits matter. From OpenAI's safety pages:

• It works on its own cloud computer. It can use your own laptop only if you connect it through the ChatGPT desktop app and choose "Allow access". This is off by default.
• When you are away, it does "proactive research", looking through your connected apps for ways to help. These research tools are read-only: they cannot send messages, change app content or control a browser.
• It checks actions that could affect your accounts or share information before going ahead. Some tasks, such as changing a password, always stay with you.
• It can sign in to supported websites with saved passwords without the password being shown to the AI model.
• You can follow everything it does, including background work, in its Activity View.

On data, OpenAI says it does not use content from Business, Enterprise or Edu workspaces to train its models by default. On a personal Pro plan, you control this in ChatGPT's data settings. One limit to know: you cannot view or delete individual things your dot remembers. The only way to clear its memory is to delete the dot.

OpenAI itself says dots "can still make mistakes", so check anything important before it goes out in your name.

Common questions

Is OpenAI Dots free in Pakistan?

No. Dots are not on the free ChatGPT plan. Your first dot is included at no extra cost in ChatGPT Pro and Business Premium, which are paid plans.

Can I use dots with ChatGPT Plus?

Not at launch. OpenAI lists Pro and Business Premium, plus an Enterprise beta. It says it plans to bring dots to more users soon but has not named Plus.

Why can I not see dots after paying for Pro?

The rollout is gradual. OpenAI says access may take several days to reach your account. You also need to set it up on a computer, not a phone.

Can I create a dot on my phone?

No. Create it in the ChatGPT desktop app or a desktop browser first. After that you can talk to it in the ChatGPT mobile app.

Can a dot use my laptop?

Only if you allow it. Access to your own computer is optional and starts turned off. You connect it through the ChatGPT desktop app.

Is dots available for students under 18?

No. OpenAI says dots are not yet available to users under 18.
