A power of attorney from South Africa to Pakistan costs R120 at the Pakistan High Commission in Pretoria: two copies on white A4 paper, two photos, your CNIC and passport with copies, the attorney's CNIC copies and two Pakistani witnesses who sign but need not come. You pay into the mission's ABSA account first and bring the proof. Below is every attestation the mission lists with its rand fee, the extra step for South African citizens, and the online NADRA route that may save you the trip.

We read the High Commission's consular page on mofa.gov.pk on 2 November 2026. A power of attorney (POA) is the paper that lets a relative in Pakistan sell, rent or manage property, or deal with a bank, on your behalf.

Pretoria charges R120 for most attestations and R51 for a licence NOC

The High Commission charges R120 for a power of attorney, a renunciation of citizenship, an authority letter for a police character certificate and an authority for a child's passport in Pakistan. Attesting a Pakistani driving licence NOC costs R51. Every fee is paid into the mission's bank account.

A Pakistani's power of attorney needs five things and two witnesses

Bring the POA printed on white A4 paper in two copies, two photos of each executor, two copies of your valid CNIC and passport plus the originals, and two CNIC copies of the attorney in Pakistan. Two Pakistani witnesses sign, with names and CNIC numbers written on it.

  1. Type the POA text and print two copies on white A4 paper. Do not sign yet.
  2. Write the names and CNIC numbers of two Pakistani witnesses on the POA and get them to sign.
  3. Photocopy both witnesses' CNICs. They do not need to come to the mission.
  4. Get two photos of yourself, and of each other executor if there is more than one.
  5. Photocopy your CNIC and passport twice, and get two CNIC copies of your attorney.
  6. Pay R120 into the mission's ABSA account and print the proof.
  7. Go to the High Commission in person with the originals and sign in front of the officer.

The witness rule trips people up. The mission wants Pakistani nationals as witnesses, with their CNIC numbers on the document itself, not just on separate copies.

Once the POA reaches Pakistan, property work may need a second step. In Punjab, you may need to register a power of attorney for property at the registrar's office before it can be used for a sale.

Steps to attest a power of attorney at the Pakistan High Commission in Pretoria

South African citizens need DIRCO's stamp before the mission's

If the person giving the POA is a South African national, the document must first be attested by DIRCO, South Africa's Department of International Relations and Cooperation. Then bring two photos, two copies of the SA ID and SA passport with originals, and the attorney's CNIC copies.

The witnesses in this case can be South Africans. Their SA ID copies go with the POA, and again they do not need to come in person. If the attorney is a company, bring its registration documents instead of a CNIC.

This route matters for Pakistanis who took South African citizenship and still own land at home. The fee is the same R120.

Police certificates, children's passports and licences have their own letters

The mission attests an authority letter so someone in Pakistan can collect your police character certificate, and another so a relative can apply for your child's passport there. Each costs R120. A driving licence needs an NOC from the issuing branch in Pakistan, attested by MOFA, then R51 in Pretoria.

For both authority letters, bring the letter on white A4 paper, two photos, two copies of your CNIC and passport, and two CNIC copies of the person in Pakistan. You must come yourself.

The licence NOC must be the original, not a scan. Bring your original CNIC, driving licence, passport and valid South African visa. Once the authority letter is with your relative, they can follow your police character certificate status at home.

The NADRA digital POA may save you the trip to Pretoria

The High Commission's own page links to poa.nadra.gov.pk, NADRA's digital power of attorney service. It is worth checking before you travel to Pretoria from Cape Town or Durban, which is a long trip for one signature.

Ask the office in Pakistan that will use the POA, such as a bank or land registry, whether it accepts the digital version before you rely on it. The wider choices are set out in how to make a power of attorney from abroad.

For passports, the mission sees applicants Monday to Friday, starting early at 9 am. Children need both parents present, the unabridged birth certificate and the parents' marriage certificate.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

We read the Pakistan High Commission Pretoria consular page and its contact page on 2 November 2026. The fees are the mission's printed figures in rand. We did not test the NADRA digital POA service from South Africa, and the page does not say how long attestation takes.
