For a Pakistani passport, an adult needs an original valid CNIC or NICOP plus one photocopy, and the old passport if there is one. A child under 10 needs the original CRC (Form B) or FRC, and both parents' CNICs. Extra papers apply to government staff, dual nationals and lost passports. The office takes your photo itself.

People lose whole mornings at a passport office over one missing photocopy. The list is short once you know which case is yours. We read the document list on the Directorate General of Immigration and Passports (DGIP) website on 7 November 2026, and we set it out below case by case.

One warning from the page itself: staff may ask for more papers if they doubt your national status or your details. So this is the list you must bring, not a promise that nothing else will be asked for.

Adults need an original CNIC and one photocopy

An applicant aged 18 or over needs an original valid CNIC or NICOP with a photocopy. If you ever held a passport, bring it with a photocopy too. Most adults need nothing else. No photos, forms or attestation appear on DGIP's adult list.

Your CNIC must be valid on the day. If it has expired, renew it before you go, because the passport prints what NADRA holds. A name or date mistake also has to be fixed first in your CNIC. The FAQ says a change of name or date of birth needs the revised original CNIC. The steps are in changing a name or date of birth on a passport.

Government staff should get the NOC before the visit, because the office lists it as a required paper. The route is in getting a government employee NOC.

Children need a CRC or FRC and both parents' CNICs

A child's list depends on age. Under 10, bring the original CRC (Form B) or FRC. At 10 or over, bring an updated CRC with fingerprints and photo, or a Juvenile Card. Both parents' valid CNICs or passports are needed in every case.

Child's caseExtra document
Under 10Original CRC (Form B) or FRC, plus one photocopy
10 or overUpdated CRC with fingerprints and photo, or Juvenile Card, plus one photocopy
Parents separated or divorcedCourt custody papers, or the other parent present, or that parent's attested consent on non-judicial stamp paper
A parent has diedOriginal death certificate and photocopy

A parent or court appointed guardian must come with the child. DGIP's process page adds a step for anyone under 18: the printed form must be attested by a government gazetted officer, who writes a CNIC or contact number and stamps it. Only then does the token get its go-ahead, so ask a gazetted officer in advance.

Fuller guidance is in getting a child's passport, and separated parents should read a child passport after a divorce. Under 15, DGIP gives only a five year passport.

A lost passport needs a police report with the old number

DGIP asks for a police report that states your previous passport number. The fee is also higher: double for a first loss and four times for a second loss. If you do not know the old number, the passport office may be able to find it.

Check the report before you leave the police station. A report without the number is no use here. Finding a lost passport number explains how to get it, and replacing a lost passport covers the rest of the process.

You do not bring a photo or a fee in cash

The Regional Passport Office takes your photo at its own counter, so you do not need prints. DGIP's process page says the fee is paid by scanning a QR code with a digital payment app. Only the applicant should enter, and phones are not allowed inside.

  1. Sort your papers into originals and photocopies before you leave home.
  2. Arrive during office hours. DGIP lists most offices at 08:00 to 16:00, Monday to Friday.
  3. Get your photo and token at the customer service counter, and check every detail on the token at once.
  4. Give your own mobile number and email at data entry, for status messages from 9988.
  5. Pay the fee by QR code after the interview, as the officer directs.
Five steps on the day of a passport appointment in Pakistan

Here is a catch. DGIP's page bans arms, cameras and mobile phones in its offices, yet the fee step uses an app. Keep your phone within reach of whoever waits outside, or ask staff at the door how they handle payment at that office. The counters inside a passport office walk through each stage.

Renewing rather than applying new? Your CNIC and old passport are the core papers. Passport renewal at NADRA centres and online covers that route.

The fee depends on pages, validity and speed

DGIP's list shows four e-passport choices, from Rs 9,000 for 36 pages and 5 years on normal service, up to Rs 40,500 for 72 pages and 10 years on urgent. Adding pages or years raises the price, and urgent costs more than normal in every row.

Pages and validityNormalUrgent
36 pages, 5 yearsRs 9,000Rs 15,000
36 pages, 10 yearsRs 13,500Rs 22,500
72 pages, 5 yearsRs 16,500Rs 27,000
72 pages, 10 yearsRs 24,750Rs 40,500

The same page gives two different delivery times, so ask at the counter. It says 21 working days for normal and 5 for urgent after processing, and elsewhere 10 and 4. Remote areas and missions abroad take longer for courier. More on the money is in the official passport fee list.

Common questions

What documents do I need for a new passport in Pakistan?

An adult needs an original valid CNIC or NICOP and one photocopy. Add the previous passport, an employer NOC, a foreign passport or a police report if your case calls for it.

Do I need photos for a Pakistani passport?

No. DGIP's process page says your photo is taken at the office counter when the token is issued.

Is a B-Form enough for a child's passport?

For a child under 10, the original CRC (Form B) or FRC is listed. From age 10, DGIP asks for an updated CRC with fingerprints and photo, or a Juvenile Card.

Do both parents have to come for a child's passport?

One parent or a court appointed guardian must come, with both parents' valid CNICs or passports. Separated parents need custody papers, or the other parent's presence or attested consent.

Do government employees need an NOC for a passport?

Yes. DGIP lists an NOC from the employer for government, semi-government and autonomous body staff.

Can the passport office ask for more documents?

Yes. DGIP says additional documents may be required if there is doubt about national status or particulars.

How we verified this

Last checked 7 November 2026. The document lists, validity, fees, office hours, delivery times and the ban on phones are from DGIP's ordinary passport page. The counter steps, gazetted officer step and QR payment are from DGIP's process page. Name and date changes are from DGIP's FAQ. DGIP's helpline is 051-111-344-777, Monday to Friday, 8:30 to 16:30.
