Update Your CNIC on Your SSGC or SNGPL Gas Account: Online Steps and Files Needed
Update your CNIC and phone on your SSGC or SNGPL gas account online. See the form fields, the 1 MB file limit and why SSGC ties the subsidy to income.

Short answer: SSGC and SNGPL both have a free online form to put your CNIC and phone number on your gas account. You need your gas customer number and a scan of both sides of your CNIC. SSGC says the subsidised gas tariff will in future be linked to your income scorecard, so keep your record current.
A Karachi family has used the same gas connection for fifteen years. The bill still carries the name of the uncle who took the connection. Nobody has a CNIC on file. That mismatch is exactly what the gas companies are now asking customers to fix.
SSGC says the subsidised tariff will move to an income scorecard
On its "Update Your CNIC" page, SSGC says that today the subsidised gas tariff depends on your gas use in the winter months. It adds that in future the programme will be linked to your income scorecard, and asks you to update your details so you keep getting the subsidised tariff.
The page gives no date and no rule for the change. The only date we found in the government's papers is a reported July 2027 start for gas, set out in the plan to move electricity and gas support to BISP. That date comes from press reports, so treat it as unconfirmed.
SNGPL's page is shorter. It says the company is updating its database with customers' CNICs and phone numbers to give better service. It does not mention the subsidy.
SSGC customers fill in one form with two codes
The SSGC form asks for your 10 digit customer number, your status and your name as per SSGC's record and as per your CNIC. It then sends one code by email and one by SMS. You enter both to prove the contact details are yours.
| Item on the SSGC form | What to enter |
|---|---|
| SSGC customer number | The 10 digit number on your bill, numbers only |
| Applicant status | Owner, Tenant, User, Family Member or Employee |
| Name | As in SSGC's record, and again as on your CNIC |
| Email and code | Your email, then the code sent to it |
| Mobile and code | Choose Jazz, Telenor, Ufone, Warid or Zong, then enter the number as 923331234567 and the SMS code |
| CNIC number and images | Front and back, JPEG or PDF, up to 1 MB each |

The form also asks what you want to do about e-bill. You may choose e-bill with no paper bill, e-bill with a paper bill, or paper bill only. The CNIC number is marked optional on the bill update field, but the page's subsidy message is why we would fill it in.
SNGPL customers confirm or correct what is already on file
The SNGPL page works the other way round. You enter your consumer number and the page shows the name, address, CNIC and contact number it holds. If these are right, you type your CNIC issue date and upload both sides of the card. If not, you type the correct CNIC and phone number.
- Open SNGPL's "Update CNIC and Phone Number" page under Customer Services.
- Enter your consumer number from the bill.
- Read the details shown. If they are right, enter the CNIC issue date and upload both sides of the CNIC.
- If they are wrong, enter the correct CNIC, issue date, mobile number and the number you want SMS alerts on, then upload both sides.
- Type the captcha and submit. Keep a screenshot of the confirmation.

SNGPL also lists an email, customerservices@sngpl.com.pk, at the bottom of the page for questions.
A mismatch can stop the update, so check names and address first
SSGC's form says your record is updated if the permanent or present address on your CNIC matches the address on the gas bill. If it does not match, expect the update to fail. Tenants and families using a connection in another person's name are the usual cases.

If the connection is not in your name, the better first step is a transfer. The steps for SNGPL are in how to transfer a gas connection to your name. Do the transfer first, then update the CNIC.
Do not give your CNIC to a person who comes to your door or messages you on WhatsApp claiming to "link" your gas for a fee. Use the company's own website. The helpline for both companies is 1199, and the complaint route is in the SNGPL and SSGC gas complaint guide.
What to do if the form fails or no code arrives
We did not submit the forms, so we cannot list the errors you will see. The form's own rules point to three likely causes: a customer number that is not exactly 10 digits, a mobile number in the wrong format, or an image larger than 1 MB. Fix those first and try again before you call.
- SSGC wants the mobile number as 923331234567, not 03331234567.
- Photograph the CNIC flat and in daylight so the text is readable.
- If the code does not arrive in a few minutes, check the spam folder for email and then request a new code.
- If the form still fails, take a printout of the bill and your CNIC to the company's customer service centre.
The e-bill part is separate from the CNIC update, and the company's own steps are in how to register for an SSGC e-bill.
Common questions
Is it compulsory to update my CNIC on my gas account?
We found no rule that makes it compulsory or sets a last date. SSGC says to update it to keep receiving the subsidised tariff in future.
Does updating my CNIC change my gas bill?
No change to rates has been announced. SSGC says only that the subsidised tariff will later be linked to your income scorecard.
Is the CNIC update free?
Neither page mentions a fee. Both are online forms on the companies' own websites. Do not pay anyone to fill them in.
Can a tenant update the CNIC?
SSGC's form lists Tenant as an applicant status. The update may fail if the CNIC address differs from the address on the bill, so the owner may need to act.
Which CNIC file size does SSGC accept?
JPEG or PDF only, with a maximum of 1 MB for each of the front and back images.
Will the subsidy for gas be paid through BISP?
That is reported, with a July 2027 start, but neither company's page says so and we found no notification. Check again before acting on it.
How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
We read SSGC's Update Your CNIC page and SNGPL's Update CNIC and Phone Number page on 12 October 2026. We did not submit either form. We could not confirm any date for the income-linked gas tariff or whether SNGPL will use the CNIC data for subsidy.
