Lahore General Hospital (LGH) runs its outdoor (OPD) from 8 am to 2 pm, and its emergency is open 24 hours, seven days a week. The 24/7 helpline is 0337-7803307 or 042-99268825, and the main exchange is 042-99268801 to 9. LGH is on Ferozepur Road near Ismail Nagar, Lahore, and the nearest Metro Bus station is Ghazi Chowk. Below: every department, what the emergency block handles, what to bring, and the visiting rules.

We read the hospital's own website, lgh.punjab.gov.pk, on the night of 2 November 2026: the contact page, the outdoor and emergency pages, the department list and the FAQ.

LGH's OPD runs from 8 am to 2 pm, the emergency all day

The hospital's outdoor page says OPD timings are 0800 to 1400 "throughout the week", and that the emergency is available 24/7. Consultants who see outpatients also look after patients in the wards. Many patients are seen in OPD first and admitted later.

"Throughout the week" is the hospital's wording. It does not say whether the OPD runs on Sundays or public holidays, and it gives no clinic days for each unit. Call the helpline before you travel on one of those days. Monday 9 November 2026 is the Iqbal Day holiday.

Reach the OPD early, because it closes at 2 pm

Arrive before 8 am if you can. The OPD closes at 2 pm, so a patient who comes at 1 pm may not be seen that day. Bring your CNIC, any referral slip and old reports, and go to the registration counter first.

  1. Reach LGH on Ferozepur Road before 8 am. By Metro Bus, get off at Ghazi Chowk.
  2. Take your CNIC (and the child's B-Form for a child), old prescriptions and test reports.
  3. Register at the OPD counter and ask which unit's clinic you need.
  4. Wait at that clinic. Keep your slip for tests and the pharmacy.
  5. If your condition is serious or sudden, go straight to the emergency block instead.

The FAQ's list of what to bring was written with insured patients in mind: an insurance card or company referral letter, a company ID card, your CNIC with a copy, and any referral form your doctor gave you. Most OPD patients at a government hospital will not have the insurance papers, and that is fine. The CNIC and your old reports matter most, because the doctor will want to see what was done before.

Bring a little cash and a water bottle, and expect a wait. A family member who can stay with an elderly patient helps a great deal on a busy morning.

For admission, the FAQ says you need a consultant's prescription and a CNIC copy at reception. Reception then makes your file and gives two attendant passes.

Steps for an OPD visit at Lahore General Hospital

LGH has 23 basic and clinical departments

The department list on the LGH website names 23 basic and clinical departments, from medicine and surgery to radiology and psychiatry. The LGH website also carries an alumni page for Ameer-ud-Din Medical College.

GroupDepartments listed
Medicine and alliedMedicine, Dermatology, Nephrology, Pulmonology, Psychiatry, Paediatrics
Surgery and alliedSurgery, Orthopaedics, Plastic Surgery, Urology, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, ENT, Ophthalmology, Anaesthesia
Women's healthObstetrics and Gynaecology
DiagnosticsPathology, Radiology
Basic and otherAnatomy, Biochemistry, Physiology, Pharmacology, Community Medicine, Forensic Medicine

The Patient Welfare section also lists a first acute stroke centre and a diabetes, endocrine and metabolic centre. For a referral between Lahore's big teaching hospitals, compare the clinic days at Jinnah Hospital Lahore, Services Hospital Lahore and Mayo Hospital.

LGH's Accidents and Emergency block offers surgical, neurosurgery, medical, obstetrics and gynaecology, orthopaedics and paediatric emergency care. It has triage, a minor operation theatre, an ICU, a lab, X-ray, CT scan and ultrasound, and medico-legal services.

Medico-legal means the doctor records injuries for a police case, such as after a fight or road accident. If you need that report, tell the triage staff at once.

For a heart attack, stroke or serious injury, call Rescue 1122 rather than driving yourself. The other Rescue numbers for Punjab are in Rescue 1122 Punjab numbers.

Visiting rules limit children and flowers in some wards

Gifts are allowed in all units, and flowers in all units except the ICU, the FAQ says. Children under 10 may visit most wards for 15 minutes only. The maternal and child unit allows no visitors under 12, except the newborn's siblings.

In the paediatric unit, no visitor under 18 months is allowed, and a young child must come with a parent. Reception hands out two attendant passes on admission, so plan who stays with the patient.

If something goes wrong with your care, you can complain to the hospital first, then to the regulator. The steps are in complaining about a hospital or doctor in Punjab.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

Last checked 2 November 2026 at about 23:10 PKT. We read the LGH contact page, its outdoor page, the emergency services page, the basic and clinical departments list, the patient welfare page and the FAQ, all on lgh.punjab.gov.pk. The site gives no clinic days for each unit and no Sunday rule, and its "View Directory" page was empty, so we could not list extension numbers. We did not call the helpline or visit the hospital.
