OGRA, the Oil and Gas Regulatory Authority, sets one maximum LPG price for the whole country each month. It applies at every level of the supply chain, from producer to distributor, and sellers may charge less but not more. We read all ten 2026 notifications on OGRA's LPG Notified Prices page on 31 October 2026. Most are scanned images, which we read page by page.

The change column is our arithmetic from OGRA's figures. Two notifications came late: March was signed on 2 March and May on 5 May, though both count from the 1st.

April brought the biggest jump, July the biggest cut
The price rose Rs 78.28 a kg in April 2026, from Rs 225.84 to Rs 304.12, about 35 per cent in one month. In July it fell Rs 67.33 a kg, from Rs 308.76 to Rs 241.43. Between them, June was the year's peak.
The cause sits in one line of each notification: the producer price. OGRA's producer price, before petroleum levy and tax, went from Rs 151,718.28 a tonne in March to Rs 218,057.72 in April. It fell from Rs 221,995.31 in June to Rs 164,935.10 in July. OGRA's notifications do not give the reason for those moves.
From January to October, the price is up Rs 59.66 a kg, or about 27 per cent. A cylinder costs Rs 704.04 more than it did in January, by our calculation.

The margins stayed fixed all year
Every 2026 notification uses the same margins: Rs 17,000 a tonne for marketing, Rs 10,000 for distribution and Rs 8,000 for transport, a total of Rs 35,000, or Rs 413 a cylinder. GST on those margins adds Rs 74.34. Petroleum levy stays at Rs 4,669 a tonne, or Rs 55.09 a cylinder.
So only the producer price, and the 18 per cent GST charged on it, changed from month to month. When you see a big move, it comes from the cost of LPG itself, not from the dealer's allowed margin.
| Fixed part of the October 2026 cylinder price | Per 11.8 kg |
|---|---|
| Petroleum levy | Rs 55.09 |
| Marketing, distribution and transport margins | Rs 413.00 |
| GST on margins | Rs 74.34 |
| Producer price, with GST on it and on the levy | Rs 2,753.80 |
How to work out any cylinder size from the per kg price
OGRA prices the 11.8 kg cylinder, but the per kg figure lets you check any size. Multiply the kg in the cylinder by the month's per kg price. At October's Rs 279.34, that gives the most a seller may charge for the gas.
- Find the cylinder's weight of gas, such as 6 kg, 11.8 kg, 15 kg or 45.4 kg.
- Take the per kg price for the current month from the table.
- Multiply the two. At Rs 279.34, 6 kg is Rs 1,676.04, 15 kg is Rs 4,190.10 and 45.4 kg is Rs 12,682.04.
- Compare with what you are charged. A higher price is above OGRA's cap.
Shop prices often run above the cap. Weekly city prices are in the LPG cylinder price this week in 17 cities. If a seller charges more than OGRA's price, you can report it, as explained in reporting LPG overcharging to OGRA. Before you buy, check the brand on OGRA's licensed LPG company list.
A cheap cylinder from an unknown filler is a safety risk as well as a price one. The checks to run before you connect one are set out in checking an LPG cylinder is safe.

November's price comes out around the last day of October
OGRA usually signs the next month's LPG price on the last day of the month or the first day of the next, as the dates in the table show. The November 2026 notification was not on OGRA's page when we checked early on 31 October.
The October price and its full breakdown are in LPG price for October 2026. Whether LPG or piped gas costs less for a home is compared in piped gas or LPG.

How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
We downloaded every 2026 notification listed on OGRA's LPG Notified Prices page on 31 October 2026 and read January to July that day. Most are scanned images, which we read by eye; February has a text layer. The August, September and October figures are from the same OGRA notifications as we read them on 1 October 2026. Monthly changes, the January to October rise, the fixed part of the cylinder price and other sizes are our arithmetic. OGRA gives no reason for the producer price changes, and we did not test shop prices ourselves.
