Office 2021 Support Ends 13 October 2026: What Pakistani Users Should Do

Short answer: Microsoft ends support for Office 2021 on 13 October 2026, and there is no extension and no paid security programme. Word, Excel and PowerPoint 2021 will still open, but they stop getting security fixes. Check which Office you have today, then decide whether to move to Microsoft 365 or to a newer one-time version.
Many offices, shops and students in Pakistan bought Office 2021 with a laptop or a licence key. It still works, so nobody thinks about it. That is the risk. After this date, any new flaw found in it stays open for good.

Office 2021 support ends on 13 October 2026
Microsoft's support page for Office 2021 gives the end date as 13 October 2026 and says there is no extension and no extended security updates. Its lifecycle table lists the retirement time as 6:59:59 on 14 October 2026, so the two pages describe the same turn of the day.
The lifecycle table says the dates are in US Pacific time, but the listed time falls on the boundary between 13 and 14 October. We treat the end as the start of 14 October in the US, which is the morning of 14 October in Pakistan. For a reader here, the practical answer is the same: from 14 October, Office 2021 is out of support.
The editions named in the table are Office 2021 Home and Business, Home and Student, and Professional, on both Windows and Mac.

Your apps keep opening, but fixes stop
Microsoft says your Office 2021 apps may continue to function. What stops is support: no technical support, no bug fixes and no security fixes. Microsoft also says you will no longer receive Office 2021 software updates.
A security fix closes a hole that a virus or a hacker can use. A document with a harmful file inside is one common way in. When the fixes stop, every new hole found after today stays open on your PC.
That matters most on a PC used for online banking, FBR returns, client files or an office network. A shop PC with old Office and no fixes is an easy target for a booby-trapped email attachment.
Check which Office you have in two minutes
Do not assume. Many PCs carry Office 2016, 2019, 2021 or a Microsoft 365 app, and the steps differ. Only Office 2021 is affected by this date. Office 2019 and earlier ended on a previous date.
- Open Word or Excel on the PC.
- Click File, then Account.
- Read the product name under Product Information. It says "Office Home and Student 2021" or similar.
- If it says Microsoft 365, you are on a subscription and this date does not apply to you.
- Note the name and write down where the licence came from, such as the laptop shop or your Microsoft account.
Three choices after support ends
Microsoft's own page recommends moving to Microsoft 365 and links to its Buy or try page. That is a yearly subscription. Microsoft sells a newer one-time Office version as well, but we did not read its price for this article, so check the current price on Microsoft's own store before you pay.

Do not buy a cheap key or a cracked copy
Ads and chat groups sell "lifetime Office keys" for a few hundred rupees. Microsoft does not sell keys that way, and cracked copies are a well known way to put malware on a PC. A PC with a fake Office can end up in a cybercrime complaint if your accounts are emptied.
