Check How Long Your Phone Gets Security Updates in Pakistan: No Official Brand Risk List Exists
No official source ranks phone brands as safe or at risk in Pakistan. See the update years Google and Samsung state, how encryption works and a 5 minute check.

Short answer: No official Pakistani or maker source ranks phone brands as safe or at risk from the NCCIA or from hackers. What the makers do publish is how long they send security updates. Google promises 7 years for Pixel 8 and later. Samsung promises 7 years for its Galaxy S24, S25 and S26 series. Check your own phone's patch date first.
People ask which brand is "safe". The honest answer is that no one has published such a list, and a phone that is out of date is riskier than one from any particular brand. So we looked at what makers say themselves.
We read the pages below on 12 October 2026. Where a maker's page did not load or did not state a figure, we say so and give no number. The legal side of phone access is separate and covered in the check of whether NCCIA can access your phone and photos.
No official list names phone brands as at risk
We searched for any NCCIA, PTA or government advisory that names a phone brand or model as unsafe or as monitored. We found none. The NCCIA website also blocked our request on 12 October 2026, so we could not read its pages. Treat any social media post with a "list of dangerous phones" as unverified.
The risks that do show up in official PTA advisories are different: lost or stolen phones, SIM misuse and fake calls. Those are handled by the steps to lock your SIM with a PIN and by checking where your phone is registered.
Update years are the clearest fact makers publish
A security update fixes a known hole. A phone that no longer gets them stays open to that hole. Update years are therefore the main thing that separates one phone from another on safety, and the makers state them themselves.
| Maker | What the maker states | Source we read |
|---|---|---|
| Google Pixel 8 and later | 7 years of OS and security updates | Google Pixel help page |
| Google Pixel 6 and 7 series | 5 years of OS and security updates | Google Pixel help page |
| Samsung Galaxy S24, S25, S26 series | 7 generations of OS upgrades and 7 years of security updates | Samsung newsroom |
| Apple iPhone | No fixed number of years found on the pages we read | Apple support pages |
| Other Android brands | Not checked, so no figure given | None |

Samsung's promise is stated for the named S series launch dates and the timing varies by model, network and market. Other Galaxy models can have shorter support, so look up your exact model on Samsung's own list. We have not verified update promises for other brands sold in Pakistan, and we will not guess.
To see where your own phone stands, follow the steps to check your Android security patch date. If it is more than a year old, the maker may have stopped sending updates.
Encryption is on by default on modern phones
Encryption scrambles stored data so it cannot be read without the right key, which is tied to your passcode. Android's own documentation says file-based encryption is supported from Android 7.0 and that full-disk encryption is not allowed on new devices running Android 10 or higher. Apple says its Data Protection feature encrypts each file with its own key.
Apple states that system apps such as Messages, Photos and Contacts use Data Protection by default, and that third party apps receive the protection automatically. Both makers tie it to your lock screen. A weak or missing passcode weakens that protection, so the passcode matters more than the brand.
We did not test any phone's encryption ourselves. This is what the makers state.
Lock screen and account settings matter more than the logo
A snatched phone, a shared code and a bad app are everyday ways a phone gets compromised. Settings you control defend against all three, on every brand. Pick the settings below whatever your phone's logo says.
- Use a 6 digit passcode or longer, not a pattern or "1234".
- Turn on the anti-theft features, such as Android Theft Protection.
- Turn on Find Hub on Android or Find My on iPhone, as set out in the steps to find a lost phone.
- Use two step verification on WhatsApp, Gmail and Facebook.
- Install apps only from the official store, and remove fake APKs.
On iPhone, Apple's Stolen Device Protection is available from iOS 17.3 and must be turned on before the device is lost. Apple also offers Lockdown Mode, which it describes as optional extreme protection for the very few people who might be personally targeted by sophisticated attacks. Apple says most people are never targeted by such attacks.
A five minute check you can do on any phone today
Do this once, then repeat it every few months. It takes about five minutes and applies to Samsung, Pixel, iPhone and every other brand alike.
- Open Settings and look up the software update or security patch date. Install any waiting update.
- Set a passcode of at least 6 digits and turn on the biometric unlock if your phone has it.
- Turn on Find Hub or Find My, and turn on theft protection if your phone offers it.
- Open Google Play Protect or the App Store account page and remove apps you do not use.
- Turn on two step verification on WhatsApp, Gmail and Facebook.

If you suspect spyware, follow the steps to check if someone is spying on your phone. Do not factory reset before you have copied evidence, if you plan to report a crime.
Common questions
Which phone brand is safest in Pakistan?
No official source ranks brands. Phones with long, current update support and a strong passcode are the safest in practice. Google and Samsung publish multi-year promises for some models, as shown above.
Is an iPhone safer than an Android phone?
We cannot give a verdict from official sources. Both makers encrypt stored data and publish security updates. Your passcode, your update habit and the apps you install matter more than the platform.
Does NCCIA monitor certain phone brands?
We found no official statement that any agency monitors particular brands. The law's powers to search or seize a phone need a court warrant or order, as set out in the legal check linked above.
Which AI model does NCCIA use for reporting?
No NCCIA page we could read names one. Reports say the agency launched an AI-enabled tool called Katalyst to sort child abuse referrals. We could not confirm it on an official page, and it is not described as a tool that reads personal phones.
Are Chinese-brand phones sold in Pakistan unsafe?
We found no official advisory saying so. We did not verify the update promises of each brand. Check your model's patch date and the maker's support page.
How do I know if my phone still gets updates?
Look at the security patch date in Settings. If it is older than about a year, check the maker's support page for your model and plan to replace the phone.
How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
We read Google's Pixel update support page, Samsung's published Galaxy update commitments, Android's encryption documentation at source.android.com and Apple's Platform Security guide and support pages for Lockdown Mode and Stolen Device Protection on 12 October 2026. Update promises change with new models, so confirm yours on the maker's own page.
