Active Taxpayers List 2026 After the 15 October Deadline: When It Updates and How to Check
FBR moved the Tax Year 2026 return deadline to 15 October. The new Active Taxpayers List was reported to follow it. See what to do and how to check your status.

Short answer: FBR extended the Tax Year 2026 return deadline to 15 October 2026, in Circular 3 of 2026-27 dated 30 September. The new Active Taxpayers List (ATL) was reported to follow the original deadline, so its release moves with the extension. File by 15 October, then check your status.
The ATL decides whether you pay the lower filer rates on bank, vehicle and property taxes. Being off the list costs real money every time you pay such a tax. Many people file in the last days and then wonder when the list changes.
On 13 October 2026 we read FBR's circular on the extension. We could not find an FBR notice that names the new ATL date, so the date is marked as reported below. Check IRIS and the FBR website for the final date.
FBR moved the deadline to 15 October 2026
Circular 3 of 2026-27, issued under section 214A of the Income Tax Ordinance, extends the date for filing income tax returns for Tax Year 2026 to 15 October 2026. It covers persons who were required to file by 30 September 2026. It says the extension came after requests from trade bodies and tax bar associations.
Our news page on the extension is FBR extends the tax return deadline to 15 October 2026. If the portal fails near the deadline, the steps are in the guide to what to do when IRIS is down on deadline day.
The ATL date is reported to move with the deadline
A report on an earlier FBR notice said the ATL for Tax Year 2026 would be published on 1 October 2026, if the deadline stayed unchanged. The same report said that an extension would postpone publication. We have not seen FBR's own wording for this, so treat it as reported.
The deadline did change. So a release on 1 October did not follow. We did not find a new date from FBR.

What to do before 15 October
Do not wait for the list. File first, so that your return is in the system before any new list is built.
- Open IRIS and file your Tax Year 2026 return by 15 October 2026.
- Download or screenshot the filing confirmation.
- Check that your return shows as filed, using the steps in the guide to checking your tax return in IRIS.
- After FBR updates the list, check your status again.
- If you are missing, contact FBR with the confirmation attached.

How to check your status
The quickest check is an SMS to FBR. The steps, and what to do if the answer is inactive, are in the guide to checking your filer status. You can also check an NTN against a name using the page on NTN verification online. FBR also keeps an Active Taxpayers List page on its website.
Why being on the list matters
Many withholding rates on bank profit, cash withdrawals, vehicle purchases and property deals depend on whether you are a filer. Our guides on cash withdrawal tax for non-filers and vehicle advance tax show how large the gap can be. A person who is off the list pays a higher rate each time. That is why the list date matters more than the filing date for daily life.
Keep your filing receipt until you see your name on the list. If you plan a big purchase, such as a car or a plot, wait until the status shows active, or ask the seller or bank what proof they accept.
Late filers may still reach the list
If you miss 15 October, you can still file. Reports say a surcharge applies to enter the list late, and a draft rule would let some late filers skip it by signing a property pledge. Both are explained in our guides to the late filer surcharge and the draft Form ATL-U. A draft is not law until FBR notifies it, so do not plan around it yet.
For the filing itself, see the guide to filing a tax return after the deadline.

How we verified this
What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.
Last checked on 13 October 2026, Pakistan time. We read FBR Circular 3 of 2026-27 on the extension and FBR's Active Taxpayers List page. The page did not carry a new publication date. The 1 October ATL date and the surcharge are reported, not read in an FBR notice.
