A "shared" or cheap ChatGPT Plus login bought from a reseller breaks OpenAI's rules, and OpenAI can suspend or close that account. OpenAI's Terms of Use say you may not share your account credentials or make your account available to anyone else. Its help pages also say one subscription cannot be shared across separate ChatGPT accounts. So if a seller offers you "Plus for a few hundred rupees a month" on someone else's login, you are paying for access that can end without warning, with no refund from anyone.

The legal routes are cheaper than they look: the Free plan, a lower paid plan, or your own Plus bought on chatgpt.com with a Pakistani card. And for a team, OpenAI sells Business seats. We read OpenAI's Terms of Use and its subscription help page on 5 November 2026. We did not buy a shared account to test one.

OpenAI's terms ban sharing a ChatGPT login

The rule is in the Registration section of OpenAI's Terms of Use. You must give accurate details, you may not share your credentials or make the account available to anyone else, and you are responsible for everything done on it. A seller who hands one login to many buyers breaks all three parts.

  • No sharing: "You may not share your account credentials or make your account available to anyone else," OpenAI's terms say.
  • Owner is responsible: the account holder is responsible for all activity on the account, including what strangers type into it.
  • Suspension: OpenAI says it can suspend or terminate access, or delete an account, if it decides the terms were breached.
  • No transfer: OpenAI's help page says subscriptions cannot be transferred between accounts, and one subscription cannot be shared across separate accounts.

Six risks you take with a shared or resold account

The low price hides costs that come later. The biggest are privacy and sudden loss of access. Everyone on a shared login can read every chat, every uploaded file and the saved memory, because they are all on the same account.

  1. Others read your chats. A shared login shows the whole history to every user. Your CV, your client's files, your thesis draft or a medical question are all visible.
  2. Memory mixes. ChatGPT's memory learns from everyone on the account, so its answers drift and can repeat other people's details.
  3. Sudden lockout. If OpenAI suspends the account, every buyer loses access at once, mid-month.
  4. No refund route. OpenAI's refund process is for the account holder who paid OpenAI. A reseller who disappears leaves you with nothing to claim.
  5. Password changes. The real owner can change the password or turn on two-step login any day.
  6. Scam cover. "Cheap Plus" offers are an easy way to collect advance payments by JazzCash or Easypaisa and vanish, or to ask for your OTP "to activate".

The OTP point is the one that turns a bad deal into real loss. No genuine ChatGPT activation needs your bank, wallet or SIM OTP. Our guide to OTP scams in Pakistan lists the common tricks.

Before paying a reseller, compare the official options. ChatGPT's Free plan already includes a lot, and OpenAI sells cheaper paid plans than Plus. Each official plan is your own account, with your own private history and a refund route through OpenAI or the app store.

Splitting a plan with friends or an office: use Business seats

For an office, a design studio or a group of freelancers, the legal way to share cost is a ChatGPT Business workspace. Each member gets a seat on their own login, so chats stay private while the bill is shared. That is the arrangement OpenAI sells for teams.

Business has its own billing rules. OpenAI says unused seats are generally not refundable for the period you committed to, though an owner can lower the seat count for the next billing cycle. Plan the number of seats before you pay. Our ChatGPT Business guide covers limits and seat counts.

Two people at home who each want ChatGPT can also each keep a separate Free account on the same phone. OpenAI's new account switcher keeps 2 accounts signed in at once; see using two ChatGPT accounts on one phone.

Already bought a shared login? Do these 5 things now

If you already use a shared account, limit the damage today. Assume that everything you typed has been seen by others on it. Move your work to your own account and stop putting private material into the shared one.

  1. Stop uploading CNIC copies, bank statements, client files or passwords to the shared account.
  2. Delete your own chats from its history, and remove anything you added to its memory.
  3. Make your own free account at chatgpt.com with your own email.
  4. If you paid the seller by wallet or bank and they vanish, keep the screenshots and the transaction ID.
  5. Report a fraud to your bank or wallet first, then to the NCCIA if needed.

For step 5, our guides explain how to claim a digital fraud refund under SBP rules and how to file an NCCIA complaint online. Be realistic: a payment you made yourself to a seller is harder to reverse than a hacked transfer.

How to spot a "cheap ChatGPT Plus" offer that is a scam

Some offers are not even shared accounts; they are just a way to take money. Watch for the signs below. Any one of them is reason enough to walk away.

  • Payment asked in advance by JazzCash, Easypaisa or bank transfer to a personal number.
  • A request for your OTP, PIN or the code from an SMS "to activate Plus".
  • A link that is not chatgpt.com or openai.com, asking you to "log in".
  • A "lifetime Plus" or "1 year for the price of 1 month" promise.
  • A seller who will not say whose account it is, or asks you never to change anything.

If you are not sure whether your own ChatGPT account is safe, check its active sessions; our guide to ChatGPT login activity shows how.

Common questions

Is buying a shared ChatGPT Plus account legal?

It breaks OpenAI's Terms of Use, which ban sharing account credentials or making an account available to anyone else. OpenAI can suspend such accounts.

Can OpenAI ban a shared ChatGPT account?

Yes. OpenAI's terms say it can suspend or terminate access, or delete an account, if it finds the terms were breached.

Can I share my ChatGPT Plus with my family?

Not by sharing one login. OpenAI says one subscription cannot be shared across separate accounts. Each person needs their own plan, or a Business workspace with seats.

Can others see my chats on a shared account?

Yes. Everyone signed in to the same account sees the same history, files and memory.

What is the cheapest legal way to use ChatGPT in Pakistan?

The Free plan costs nothing. For more, buy your own plan on chatgpt.com or in the app; our plans comparison lists the options.

I paid a seller and lost access. Can I get my money back?

Not from OpenAI, because you did not pay OpenAI. Contact your bank or wallet with the transaction ID, and report fraud to the NCCIA if the seller vanished.

How we verified this

What we checked, where we read it, and what we could not confirm.

We read the Registration and Termination sections of OpenAI's Terms of Use (rest of world version), OpenAI's help page on subscription access, and its refund page, on 5 November 2026. We did not buy a shared account, and we name no seller. The scam signs are general warnings, not reports about any one listing.
